"At some point we have to let the anxieties go and trust that what is supposed to happen, will happen eventually" Thank you Chris. That's something I definitely need to work on (with my own kids too--not just anonymous ones here).

Maybe I'm just a worry-wart...
by ConcernedMom inhave any of you ever read the book "the chrysalids"?
after a nuclear holocaust, the society has become intolerant of any "deviation from the norm" in crops/animals/people and so the burn/kill/exile them respectively to keep everything pure.
a group of kids has developed the ability to communicate telepathically but must keep it a secret or they will be considered deviants.

That was quick! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. Ozziepost, maybe it's worrywort??? I've never had reason to have to spell it before. Incidentally, in the book, the kids are rescued by the advanced "think-talking" society from Australia and taken there to live without persecution for being different.

Have any of you ever read the book "The Chrysalids"? After a nuclear holocaust, the society has become intolerant of any "deviation from the norm" in crops/animals/people and so the burn/kill/exile them respectively to keep everything pure. A group of kids has developed the ability to communicate telepathically but must keep it a secret or they will be considered deviants. For the most part, they don't even know each others identities so if one of them suddenly stops communicating, they don't know why. Was the person discovered?? Are they okay?? Will they incriminate (under torture) the rest of the group?? So...my point...when someone on this board (a teenager) that has been posting, frequently but secretly, stops posting without any warning, do you worry about them?? Or are you used to people coming and going so you just assume that they have moved on to other interests etc??? Is it just the mother in me that makes me imagine the worst case scenario?

As a non-JW, I am certainly not defending their blood policies but from the articles I have read on this particular case, I'm not sure how the father is making his case. I understand that he opposed his wife/church in wanting the transfusions and that the Alberta government stepped in and she was given 38 transfusions. When they were deemed to be no longer effective, she was released (from gov't control) to her family and the mom took her somewhere else for alternative (non-blood) treatment without dad's knowledge/consent. As a parent, if traditional treatments were not working and it seemed like my child's doctors were basically giving up, I would probably be willing to try any alternatives that were available too. Is his argument that the legalities held up the blood transfusions she was given and if they had been given sooner, they would have worked?? I haven't read anywhere what the time period was before the gov't stepped in...

by orbison11 ini just got the local paper for chilliwack, there was a supreme court case here regarding a jw, i will do a bit of the first few paragraphs, for more go to www.chilliwacktimes.com and you should be able to find the whole article.
doctor cleared in death.
supreme court judge has determined a release form signed by a local jehovah's witnes woman who died following a hysterectomy is enough to clear the doctor in the case from paying damages............ btw.

My (nonJW) daughter's boyfriend (JW) and his mom tried to tell her that not accepting blood transfusions meant that you would get better care because the doctor's would be "more careful". I pointed out that the opposite could also be true...I'll have to show them this article.

financial distress caused by Jehovahs Witnesses
by Gaynor ini dont know where to post this but i just want to blow off some steam, i was baptised as a jw in february 1994, in september of last year i was disfellowshipped, this was for allowing my partner from america to come to live in my house, they said we were committing fornication, we werent.
my disfellowshipping occured just 1 week prior to my marriage, and despite breaking my heart and sobbing to the elders they remained convinced of our fornication and disfellowshipped me.
i appealled and had to endure 2 hours of interrogation by 6 elders, again my heart was breaking, again they disfellowshipped.

I'm a bit confused...I was baptised and raised Catholic. I have been married twice (first husband deceased)--both times in the Catholic church and both times to NON-Catholics. You don't need to be Catholic to marry a Catholic...at least not in Canada and I'm pretty sure not in the US. You would have to have your first marriage annulled (I think but I have no personal experience with this one) because the Catholic church doesn't recognise divorce. So the way I understand you, I don't think not being able to get a JW baptisimal certificate should hold up your marriage. You may need it to continue on to become Catholic but not for your marriage which seems to be the immigration problem. Deb

wierd JW sister experience
by AuSet ini was walking in uptown mpls on hennipen ave....last weekend, with my jw sister, her jw boyfriend, and my fiance..... there was this lady sitting on a park bench reading what looked like a new awake rather conspicuously , i was about to yell out to her "are you counting your time or what?
" when i noticed a small table she had set up on the sidewalk with some very old jw wts on it, and some other old literature..... my sister sees it and quickly sidesteps it as though she had been shocked...and she said to her jw bf while sucking in her breath loudly "ooooo....that's apostate literature.
wait a second...i said loudly....am i to understand that you just called the jws own literature apostate?

Do I have this right?? The "publishers" PAY for the magazines that they then have to take out and "place"?? So then if someone "donates" money for one of them, who gets that money (do I really need to ask...)?

Some local JWs called on the one nun left living at the RC convent here. She said she would be happy to read their books and gave them one of hers to read telling them to come back and they would discuss them. When they came back, she gave them their books that she had finished reading and asked what they thought of the one she had given them. They said they had burned it. I thought it took a lot of guts to go there in the first place but to return again and tell her they had burned her property was really rude. I guess they thought it would be a real coup if they converted her! Needless to say, she was very insulted....
