When I was disfel. I was going through a divorce as well. I went from being at the centre of a huge social group and in a relationship, to being completely cut off over night.
I started to show signs of depression.
I read somewhere that people start to show signs of mental trauma within 30 mins of being put into solitary confinement, and that's how I felt.
In fact, I wanted to go back and re-join. I wonder how many people do re-join for the wrong reasons.
I would say I was on rocky ground for a couple of years until I started to chill. I met a load of good friends at university, and I can truthfully say there is more love and trust in this large group than I ever saw in the witnesses.
Although people I knew in the org occasionally cross my mind, it is now in the cold light of day, I remember what they were really like; the pompous ones, the one that threatened to punch me, my abusive step - father ministerial servant, many, many two faced or double lived people.
8 years have passed and although I dont know all the answers, I know one thing: those were only friends for a reason, not for life.

Newbie - missing friends - need advice!
by JW83 ini've been out for a year and miss a couple of my friends a lot.
someone told me a saying yesterday, though, that some friends are for a reason, some are for a season and some are for a lifetime.
i'm usually not into corny sayings but that one made me think.

To All Here..... just a question....
by 7robert7 ini'm just curious as to how many ex-witnesses here still believe in the god of the bible ?
and how many, due to the societies teachings have given up on god all together ?

I believe that god is the universe, the fabric of space and time, evrything around us, and including us. I think it's actually demeaning to view god as a person; he is more than that. I believe that our whole reality exists within god (and doesnt actually exist any where else at all).
I feel that this gives everything a kind of life force and there is a consciousness almost flowing, at times, seemingly intelligent of it's own. -

Cheers for that, I'll try and write one with "Q" in it, I'm sure that will be easier than the "tribbles" one which I'm working on.
MadApostate, I couldnt get through to your suggested site, is the url correct? -

THE BORG
Tuvok: "Long range sensors are picking up a ship approaching at warp".
Pickard: "Slow to impulse; on-screen!"
Data: "We have engaged... the Borg!"
Pickard: "Sheilds up, go to red alert"
Tuvok: "Captain, they're bombarding us with a Watchtower and "Tract-or" beams!"
The Borg: "This is the borg. You will be witnessed to, and assimilated. Resistance is futile, please stand down and prepare to be brainwashed!"
Pickard: "Data, tactical report!"
Data: "Captain, the borg have not been known to respond to any kind of reasonable argument, what so-ever. They're main weapon is their ability to assimilate all vaunerable life forms by indoctrination and assimilation into the collective. I suggest we retreat immediately!"
Pickard: "Surely we can try to save some of them! We can't just leave them!"
Tuvok: "Captain, I'm afraid that's impossible, once assimilated, the borg implants prevent them from leaving by closing their minds, backed up by other implants telling them they have open minds, in short, a double feedback loop I couldn't even solve with a mind meld!"
Data: "Hold on Captain, I have processed an idea. We could go forward in time and see how they explain the fact that the world has not been completely assimilated."
Pickard: "Make it so!"
A few seconds later...
Tuvok: "My God, a world without the borg, here in the future! What happened?"
Data: "Records indicate that the borg printed another 23 (to the power of 10) implants including 10 billion retractions, 20 billion points of "new light", 33 billion changes of direction, and ended up dissfellowshipping all of it's members who were'nt able to adapt."
Pickard: "Well I think that wraps that up! Lets get on with our mission to go where no man has gone before (other than jw's)"the end.

Should you write to the society?
by sleepy inwhen someone comes across something in the "truth" that disterbs them should they write to the society or is this pointless?.
i think they should write for several reasons.. 1.you must give them at least a chance to present their side of the story.it is no good just relying for others for your information you can not be shure what the society really belive until you hear it from them yourself.. wasn't just relying on the judgement of others part of what got you in in the first place.. its good for us to try and advance in our way of thinking during life and part of this involves doing our own research which is not complete until we go to the source of our conflict.. also if you bring up the point with someone it gives more weight to your argument if mention you wrote to the society and this was their answer.. 2. the more poeple that write in with the same points the more difficult it will be for them to hold to an erroneous stand.. the more different people that write the more ways of expresing the point will be heared different ways will make sence to different people.. remember its not just the same person answering all letters but different people who will have to do research an answer your point, which could make them think.. (this assumes that the society is genuinely mistaken and not corupt, although it could be a bit of both).
of cource if you do not want hassle off your elders dont tell the society you are a brother/sister or just give a different name ,prehaps you could give the address of your place of work or somewhere else if you don't want to be traced easily.. in my case i just made it sound like i was an intrested person.. or you could make out that you need some help in presenting the societies case to an intrested person who has quetions.

OOOPS!
WAIT ! BEFORE YOU WRITE TO THE SOCIETY!
Dont forget that they quote scripture stating that they will receive pressure from apostates and persecution because they are the true religion.
I want desperately to write to the society with a million and one things that are on my mind, but it occurred to me, that every letter they receive, to them , is "proof" that they are God's choosen people.
Of course, this is mis-guided and twisted thinking, and the whole set up is dangerous, but you surely have to weigh up what the contents of your letter can do, compared to the consequence of them simply receiving it.

Hi, I'm from Dorset in England. Does one have to be an expert on international smells to post here?
Guess you could say I smell a bit like Guiness any way. -

I'll never forget when a sister quoted 1 Cor 15v53 in the Watchtower saying "For this which is corruptible must be put on incorruption, and this which is mortal must put on immorallity."
