good news alternative energy .
while on the subject, we could already start to reduce and eventually eliminate oil, at least to the point where we would only need to use our own resources and may buy oil from mexico and russia.. solar: while seemingly forgotten, this is still a growing industry.

Why not use the deserts for huge solar farms?
They are constantly sunny,
They are large unpopulated areas,
Some deserts are sand which is used to make the glass required,
In places like the sahara this would create jobs and a natural resource where there is none.
I'm talking millions of square miles of solar panels. Any comments?

when my family asked about me, she just shrugged her shoulders -- the little hypocrite couldn't "stumble" them by telling them she was shunning her own sister.
I can't find the article due to my out of date WT library, but the org is very put out by large gatherings of disfellowshipped persons congregating and chatting after meetings.
(One congregation had a large no. of disfellowshipped persons who would talk to their witness relatives after each meeting)
Of course if they stopped people doing that, particularly at "public" sunday meetings, there charitable status would be on very dodgey ground.
Maybe at the next apost fest, we should all go to the sunday meeting together and stay after, chatting and enjoying one anothers association. (before going to the pub obviously)
a few days ago i was told matter didn't always exist.. i was told this by several persons who spoke with much certainty.. they said matter came from a singularity.. this as you know raises more questions than it answers.. have they any proof that singularities even exist?.
how come people state things as a fact, that they have no solid proof for, and expect others to just beleive them.. and if you don't accept their beleif, you are said, not to be intelligent.. isn't that a case of attacking the straw man?.

the bible says to love god with your whole heart, mind and soul.
if you take away the carrot of the new system, how many witnesses would go from door to door, study, meditate, attend meetings and assemblies or even show an interest?.
Is even dying for a cause meaningful if you believe that death is a sleep and you'll be reserected?

someone - i can't recall who - posted an opinion that the jw relgion would shortly split into 2 separate bodies.. as i recall, the poster opined that 1 group would remain as fundamental as it is now, whilst the other would go much more mainstream, maybe even abandoning contentious beliefs such as shunning and refusing blood.. if i remember correctly, the writer felt that the 2 groups would still remain under the control of brooklyn, but they would actually be of separate 'classes'.
something like ordinary catholics and jesuits, i guess.. i can't find the post, but i think that it is an interesting concept.
it would certainly solve many of their problems to have an elite class alongside a junior one, it would also allow the fds to fade away gracefully.

I am only semi-religous now, but I feel sure I would not follow a religion for any prize or even harbour the idea of any kind of self-importance as the witnesses do, even sub-conciously.
This feeling that most witnesses worship out of "righteous greed" is what makes me truly believe that God (whoever that is) looks down in favour on those who lead a good and honest life with no under-lying reward or prize or whatever you want to call it in the shopping basket.

after the post on "food for thought" which gave details of modern day bible students, i thought i'd ask the question:.
what religions are there that either have similar roots to the jw religion, or that have similar teachings?

i am an active jw and was raised as one.
i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).
scum, being disfellowshipped is like going off the deep end for anybody. When being disfellowshipped, it occurs to you...Would a loving God really treat good-hearted individuals this way?

I know there is a deep side to your question, and I personally do not choose to believe now, but the non-cultist mainstream JWs in the UK are methodists.
