Did you know that when someone is put into solitary confinement, they start showing symptoms indicative of mental trauma within 30 minutes and some go on to develop a full mental neurosis?

elders, culpability, apples & oranges...
by dungbeetle insometimes it's funny when a thread gets off topic----and sometimes it isn't.. a very good question has arisen.."are jehovah's witness elders culpable for damage done by the watchtower by virtue of their postition?".
somehow the topic changed to "don't blame elders for being 'in' the org, they may be mislead, that's all they know, they do some good, yada yada yada.... like hell!!!!!.
thee is a big world of difference between being 'in' the org for whatever reason, and being an elder, a public representative, an active campaigner, a judicial committee member...and i can go on and on here....of an organization that teaches death and destruction of most everyone on earth, and whose policies result in deaths of people probably every day.. if a person must stay in, then stay in.

I've always described my rage to be against the "machine" of the Watchtower. What makes it a machine is it's operating rules: self perpetuation through preaching, self protection through disfellowshipping and shunning and control through the regime of meetings, study etc.
The people that make up the membership (as we did once) have no control OVER the machine. They are controlled BY it, and yet are inherantly part of it. -

The most violently insane acts in the Bible.
by sleepy inthe bible contains accounts of some horrendously voilent happenings.. some more graphic then many modern films.. this disturbs many when they first read those accounts.. heres one that stood out to me when i first read it.. 1 samuel 15:33 "with that samuel went hacking a'gag to pieces before jehovah in gil'gal".
it wasn't enough just to kill him but samuel hacked him to pieces in front of a large crowd of people.. i wouldn't want to get into a tangle with samuel if he got out of the wrong side of bed that morning.

JW Marraiges
by sweetone2377 inhow many here were married as jw's to jw's??
if so, what was your main purpose in getting married to this person?
i ask this because, i married my dh so that i could get to know him.

I wonder what the actual statistics are for JW marriage success rates. Take a random sample (my family) ... 3 witness marriages failed out of 3.

Harry Potter vs. The Wizard of Oz
by LDH inperhaps some here would like to expound on why it is ok for witness kids to watch the classic film "wizard of oz" but harry potter is out?.
aren't the two the same thing?
a fantasy about another realm?

So, what exactly are the rules regarding films? You can't have certain films allowed in one place and not in another? All I can remember is that here in the UK, we were warned from the platform that if a film had a certificate 18 and was therefore not suitable for children, it would also not be suitable for christains.

RR said if these people are happy where they are, leave them be.
I say you are right with regard to thinking adults who decide it is for them.
I say you are wrong with regard to vulnerable adults and children brought up in it who no nothing different.
They are the ones hoodwinked and taken in, like I was. I call it brain washing. I know because I've been there. -

At Which Table Are You Feeding?
by YoYoMama inat which table are you feeding?.
you cannot be partaking of the table of jehovah and the table of demons.1 corinthians 10:21.. these inspired words of the apostle paul show that two figurative tables are set before mankind.
each table is identified by the kind of symbolic food placed upon it, and all of us are eating at one or the other.

so... they've stopped postal subscriptions?
Well, at least we can rely upon those who "eat at two tables" to cut and paste all the spiritual food we need right into our own message board. LOL. -

Gentile Times
by Masterji inhere is a question from readers.. this was in the days when they were truly from the public.. in establishing the length of the seven times of the gentiles, a time or year of 360 days is used, to give 2,520 days, which become 2,520 years when ezekiel 4:6 is applied.
yet when we figure from 607 b.c.
down to a.d. 1914, the 2,520 years are solar years of 365 1/4 days each, and not lunar years of 360 days each.

It is purely my opinion, but having read about the early history of the bible students, I believe Rusell and some other start ups of the day were obssessed with finding a hidden "code" woven into the bible predicting the future.
His interest in pyramidology and using maths to work out the future confirms this.
The fact is, you could cross reference as many passages, dates and numbers as you like, and come up with just about any date. Rusell got lucky and something big did happen in 1914, but it wasn't the end of the world as he predicted. The war ended, things moved on, and the beliefs were adjusted accordingly.
But my point here is that something important has been missed: the bible condemns "searching for portents and omens". The bible condemns "false prophesy" and "adding to scripture".
All of this is part of the process whereby the society down to today draw their conclusions and make predictions.Read the revelation climax book. This is basically a verse by verse "commentary", and in effect, a re-write of the bible book itself. Try coming to the same conclusions they did just by reading the bible, and ask yourself why their bible does not contain the books content in the NWT bible itself. (Rev 22: 18,19)
