Will Bush change his view on global warming now

this is what they are discussing on bbc news 24 right now, in relation to the katrina hurricane.. their conclusion was quite negetive, i was just interested to see if anyone on here had any views?.

It has been proved that the earth in other epochs has had global average temperatures higher than now and colder than now.

However none of those periods had human beings interfering with and polluting the atmosphere.

yes, the planet is getting warmer, and the sea levels are rising. Whether this is just part of a natural cycle, being helped along by human activity, or caused by human activity alone cannot be definitely proved using only the data we have at present.

The point is that if it IS human activity causing it, we cannot put things back again, once the damage is done. It's like saying let's not bother putting emergency exits in a theatre as you cannot prove that this particular theatre is definitely going to burn down.

We cannot take such risks with the only habitable planet we know of. What if it is our fault? Laissez faire in this situation could turn out to be mass suicide by dithering over details.

Went to church for 2nd Sunday in a row...

people remembered me from last sunday and actually made an effort to fellowship with me (even though i bolted for the door after the closing prayer).

everyone seems very warm and genuine.

i'm looking forward to going again next sunday.

I think that if God is the all knowing loving being people say he is, he would know if someone is praying to him sincerely, whether they call him God, Lord, Jehovah, Father, Allah (arabic for "the Lord").

Mocking the pronunciation of YHWH used in the KJ bible is silly - it was not invented by WTS, although most people today think it was.

Many eminent preachers in the past used it. There is a hymn "Guide me Oh thou great Jehovah" - which was recently changed to "great redeemer" because people were terrified of being thought of as witlesses.

Does God get this uptight?

But yes - my impression is that it is far less difficult to make freinds in contemporary churches.

i think for me it was alligator.

we went to islands of adventure and we tried gator bites.

it tastes like fish but is really tough.

Snails - Delicious!

There is a famed restaurant in Madrid that does the best testicles in town, tender and succulent.

Also while in Spain I tried that cheese - I forget its name now, but it is kept warm and suppurating until it is full of wriggling white maggots. Just spread it on crusty bread. Like rotting roquefort except I was sure I could feel some of the critters wriggling in my belly.

If I go to China I want to try the live freshwater shrimp. They leap about after you dip them in the chili sauce!

does anyone else remember the talk at the dc about 1978, 79 where they said that the 'jeremiah class' would play the part of a spearhead that brings down christendom?.

since the disgusting thing stands in a place holy to christendom, this must mean that it is disgusting to her.

at the meeting today, me and my family were sitting in the back.

i've been heavily emotional lately because of the katrina disaster and my temper and sadness and all emotions have just been on a rise lately.

well my dad was noticing that i was frowning so my father got sort of angry with me and demanded that i stop.

Actually I did.

I cannot be specific as it would lead to me being identified, but I went to my best friend at the time and told him he had to put things right.

He went to the toddlers, and told them, and was then told he was not to say anything to me about what was going on.

I phoned the elder whom he confessed to, and he said it was for my own protection. At no point in the JC was I asked for any testimony.

Of course he was an elders son so he was not disfellowshipped.

YES

When I was a youngster and the family joined, I still had issues over abuse experienced before hearing "the good news".

Of course in those days we were indoctrinated that it was evil to seek psychological help. All my self esteem/sex terror issues were stuffed down, to be cured in the new world. You didn't even mention them in case we brought reproach. My reality was mocked and marginalised.

But the new world never came. I began to fade after the generation thing. (Don't you think that is a defining moment for many on this board?)

As a result I am an alcoholic (recovering - sort of - I succeed and fail from day to day) To suddenly discover the gift is not inside the pretty parcel was a big kick in the groin. Don't live your life until the new world. New world ain't comin' - tough. I'm going to die, without leaving any worthwhile contribution to humanity all because we listened to s.o. at the door saying we don't live now - we'll live forever in the Kingdom.

saw a programme dealing with the possible aftermath of a huge earthquake in l.a.. disturbingly it said that in such an event widespread civil disorder, panic and chaos would render efforts at aid virtually impossible.

the policy is to seal off whole areas and allow the violence and looting to play itself out.

after a week or more those trapped will be exhausted weak hungry and easier to control.

it seems to me as if society is about to undergo a radical upheaval in the form of an new energy crisis.

to put it simply we are running out of oil.

The major oil companies have actually bought the patents for alternative energy sources and engines in many countries then sat on them. This forces people to use oil technologies, which at present brings them vast profits.

This was the thinking of the oil companies when they bought all the electric tramline companies in Los Angeles, then scrapped them. Forcing people into automobiles that used their gas = more money.

When things get more desperate, they will dust down these patents, and start selling the technology because it has become profitable. (It wasn't 30 years ago).

Oil is a very complex and unique resource, with many better uses than burning it. It is rather like using cognac in your oil lamps, or washing your dirty socks in champagne.

IN THE MID 90S THE WTS CHANGED THE MEANING OF THE DISGUSTING THING - IT ISN'T THE UNITED NATIONS ANYMORE.

So if anyone comes back to them they will just say "we are not hypocrites, because the disgusting thing is actually something didgusting in the eyes of Christendom."
