I was also born in but never baptised. The one good thing about spending most of my youth in a congregation that didn't have any kids besides my siblings and me was the lack of peer pressure to get dunked.

did you escape BEFORE baptism?
by kid-A in.
i am of the "born into it but got out of it before baptism class"......listening to so many of the horror stories on this site, i often feel like we are the 'lucky ones'..... we realized at a very young age how wrong and absurd this belief system was and ran away before making the psychological investment of baptism while simultaneously avoided the disastrous consequences of getting df'd......are we the minority here???
just curious!

I think I'd ask, "Do you ever wonder what happens when you die?"

That bit about including "Official" in your metatags for the sole purpose of misleading search engines seems easily defeated. The site quotes passages from their "Official" publications, does it not?

WHAT DO JWS BELIEVE ABOUT INCUBI?
by badboy in.

demons who have sex with humans

"They loved to talk about sex and insisted on having relations with me. It was shocking. I was married. I did not want to be unfaithful and told them so. It did not help. Once an invisible force overpowered me, touched and squeezed my body, and even bit me. I felt wretched."
She actually summoned the spirit of Wilt Chamberlain...So, did she at least get privately reproved for submitting to unclean acts with demons?

I use Smurf windchimes to torment demons by simultaneously attracting them to and repelling them from my house. Demons hate that.

Wait...I'm confused...I thought cries of peace and security were what we were supposed to watch out for. No wonder I was such a crappy JW.

OMG They are doing commercials now!?
by flower ini just finished watching martha stewart and after it went off there was a set of commercials before the news came on and i swear i just saw a commercial from the christian congregation of jehovahs' witnesses!.
it was about raising your children with knowledge and love.
it showed a teen girl on the internet in a chat room with a person who had become her best friend and wanted to meet her in person and they said something like if it seems too good to be true it is..'love builds happy familys' was the slogan or something.. .

I saw this commercial for the first time last night. While they're correct that love does build happy families, they err in implying that the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses does anything to support the building of loving, happy families. What a bait a switch!

Remembering Halloween As A JW Kid . . .
by Corvin ini remember my mom and my aunt making us kids open the door to the trick-or-treators and instead of giving them candy, we had to put wt and awake!
magazines (back issues) in their bags.
how embarrassing.. anyone else have the same experience?.

P.S. I guess - in retrospect... it's a non-JWs revenge... sorta like door-to-door in reverse, eh? It gives a JW an opportunity to see what it feels like to dread someone coming to the door and knocking.
I nearly wet myself when I read that. Although, I must say, I think the dread only worked on JW children.

How much should home owner's insurance cost in a mortgage?
by Elsewhere in.
on my "good faith" estimate that the mortgage company gave me several months ago they put $100 per month.
i have been calling around and i'm hearing things like $3250 a year ($271 a month).. did the mortgage company twist the numbers to help reel me in?

WHOA! That premium sounds awfully steep! I bought a house (my first!) about 6 months ago and my premium was around $650. The replacement value on the house is $240,000 and our deductible is $1000 (I think). When I was shopping around for homeowner's insurance, I got a wide variation in quotes from different insurance companies. A word of warning: my mortgagor required that I get insurance from a company with a Best rating above a certain level (which I don't remember).

Words to Live By - What are Yours?
by pettygrudger inin trying to deal with the everyday realities of our existence, we usually pick "catch phrases" or principles with which we use to try & guide our life, growth & development.
in my case, the #1 thing that i try to live by is to take what is mine & own it.
yep, i didn't have the best circumstances growing up, and had some pretty crappy things that happened to me as a child.

Treat other people the way you would want to be treated and hold yourself to the same standards to which you hold others.
