in every kingdom hall, there seems to be that one family that always irritates you.
in our hall there is this one family that thinks they have been blessed by jehovah himself because nearly all of the children became either bethelites, traveling overseers,or elders.their comments always have that tone which is condescending.
they always give their "wonderful experiences" of how they helped 2000 people in the "truth".
Ha ha, Minimus, you got me going again!
You always come up with the questions that provoke me into a response. Yes I did know a family just like that. The dad was P.O, first son and wife missionarys in timbuckfuckingtoo, next son school overseer (in the style of adolf hitler) and window cleaner of course and daughter spinster pioneer, as straight laced as they come.
It kind of got to the point, where if anyone made a comment in either the wt study or at the service meeting, glances were sneakily made in 'daddy P.Os' direction to see whether we had his blessing or not!
They were what was known as "the centre of the organisation" and that was the place that we ought to be! Personally, I never wanted to be right there, well not with them anyway! A lot of the bros and sisters were terrified of them and I always dreaded approaching him if I ever needed an auxilliary pioneer form, I used to study his face for a glimmer of approval, but alas never gained it.
Oh minimus, don't do this to me....just when I thought it was safe to leave it all, you keep bringing it all back!
its my birthday and i got some anais anais body mist, a buffy "watchers guide" book, and some angel innocence perfume and shower mousse.. my bf says he will buy me an outfit when i'm better, too,.
russell grant says this about people born on 14 september:.
at their best, people born on september 14 are tremendous party-givers and general planners of fun and great holidays.
Never done this before......................HAPPY BIRTHDAY !
preaching, to a witness is the most important assignment that god gives.as a matter of fact, if you don't preach you are bloodguilty before god.if you don't cover the territory properly, you are bloodguilty.
if you didn't keep proper records, you were bloodguilty.if you didn't do not-at-homes, you were bloodguilty.if you didn't return to talk to a return visit within the week, you were bloodguilty.
obviously, we could never reach all persons with the "truth".
I was most concerned about getting my territory covered. I walked miles and spent hours organizing my call book and sorting out my return visits. I would feel bad if I never got the oppertunity to witness informally and would always be open to suggestions on how to improve. Kingdom ministry inserts were always at hand and I devoured that brown book, (the one with conversation stoppers in it)...........the title, I just cant remember off hand!
I took my studies shopping, helped with their kids and housework. I gave them lifts here and there, picked them up, took them to meetings. Taught some of them to cook, clean, decorate and the list goes on.
Do I feel guilty now?.........NO................just embarrassed!
last week we enjoyed a thread where many discussed the pros and cons of dubdom and comments have been made that exjws can be overtaken with negativity, and that this board displays far too much malice towards the r&f.
a view is held that the r&f are really nice people and they are innocent of sins committed by the borg.
the argument goes that individuals, whether on the gb or publishers in a local congregation, are all victims of some organisational spirit.
You refer to "some things you have witnessed in recent times". These are individuals of which you speak!
I prefer not to use blanket statements, tarring all with one brush.
I shared a congregation with some absolute detestable hypocrites. Some were very rude and hurtful. However I do know some that are extremely kind, patient and very loving and serve their god with absolute integrity and sincerity.
It is imposible to put them all in a box and categorize them.
one of the most important lesson an xjw needs to learn is how not to burn bridges.. what exactly does it mean to "burn a bridge" in the first place?.
well, consider if you crossed a wide chasm suspended on a rope bridge and decided you would never need to go back.
why not burn it?
I enjoyed your post and agree with you.
after reading all the sad stories of how some here have been abused in a multitude of ways, if you had the opportunity now, would you speak up?
if you tended to be shy or insecure, would you want to speak out now, if you could?
To a certain individual I would say.........."You are a nosey, interfering bitch that should have kept your ugly face out of the marriage I once had!" .........And if I had the guts, I would let her know that practically everyone in my old congregation (except her), knows that her husband has had multiple sexual encounters with varying females whilst still being married to her!
Who knows, just one of these days I might just do that!
i generally enjoy most people.
i try to give people the benefit of the doubt.
i am not a hateful person.
There was a toilet-cleaner-sister that I once had the misfortune of sharing kingdom halls with. She was a gossipy, meddling, interfering, back-biting bitch. If there was trouble, she'd be there in the middle of it, if there was scandal, she'd know about it, if there were problems (of the marital sort particularly), she'd involve herself. As I recall, she also had very bad dress sense, very BIG hair and a 1980s influenced wardrobe. She was the only person I know that could walk 2 miles to the meeting wearing stilletoes and walk 2 miles back (not because of her faithfulness toward the meetings, but rather her husband would take these notions now and again about conserving fuel and trying to get her to lose a few pounds off her butt!)
Ah the memories. Hate is a very strong word and I don't really want to own up to the fact that I have the capacity to feel such a strong emotion, but I've responded to this post and she sprung to mind immediately!
most years, my old congregation would get asked for volunteers to clean and garden our assembly hall.. as you all well may have observed, at such occasions at your hall, all the youngsters would use this oppertunity to show the opposite sex, just what they looked like in their 'civvys' (leisure-wear) !.
i knew one sister that used to make her own clothes and would make this, sort of andy-pandy suit.
she would use some sort of candy-striped bed linen-sort-of-material, usually pastel coloured and make a kind of all-in-one romper-cum-knicker-bocker-pedal-pusher-number?
Or you would get those people that would just walk around all day and pretend to be looking for a spare spade or something!

I reckon she thought she looked good?
Did you have someone like this in your congregation?
