I was looking at some pics of KHs and I remembered something I'd noticed while dusting my feet off outside a JW hall - very few windows. Is that a policy or was I just at the back of the building...?

About the Tree of Knowledge.
by Blueblades ingod told adam and eve not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
if this were the only venue through which they could understand the difference between good and evil, how could they have known that it was wrong to disobey god and eat the fruit?.

In my extra scriptures it goes into this at length: Eve and Adam are actually heroes as they were meant to take the fruit - God wants his children to become as gods - the only lie was the thou shalt not surely die part. Without the transgression by one divine man (Adam - OK and Eve!) the whole law of the atonement (payment and restitution by one divine man) would not balance. Without the choice of good and evil we could not progress / learn etc.. only when there is choice is there individual growth. Apparently Adam and Eve realised this after and were glad they took the fruit and so was God - if they'd stayed in the nest they would never have learnt to fly.

Why did Israelite soldiers die following Jehovahs direction?
by truthseeker injoining the armed forces presents an inherent risk that one will die in combat.
there is a historical account in the bible detailing huge losses for the israelite army, when they followed jehovah's direction.
to set the scene - a group of homosexual men surround the house of an old man, asking him to bring out a lodger for sexual gratification.

First off don't be confused by Israelite numbering - always remove most of the zeros before looking at death totals etc.. A common translation error.
Secondly the fact that it is recorded as Jehovah saying it doesnt make it so - it could easily have been a priest pretending to speak for Jehovah - the evidence in fact seems to strongly suggest that this wasn't God's command.
Thirdly scripture writers wrote things down that may have seemed true but weren't for example - the Ark cannot possibly been the only people who were saved (loads of boats can last at sea for 40 days) but to Noah it must have seemed that way - so that's what he wrote.

Does the WTS's past matter?
by M.J. ini know, i'd jump into this topic by saying, "heck yeah.
they're the ones saying they've been appointed by god based on what they were doing back around 1914-1919.
" but i'm trying to help someone out who has reached a roadblock with his wife.

Can you imagine if Moses and Joshua had used the same tack - Oh yea we were wrong about those ten commandments - there were only two so I made a few up just in case. Sorry about the forty years in the wilderness - it was meant to be 4 but I got my dates wrong. When we said destroy every living soul of the Ammonites it was never meant to be by killing them - there are some very over zealous Israelites out there. etc..etc.. If I was a dub I'd use a new light arguement to do whatever I wanted - i.e. 'Bro Dave didn't you know christmas was apostate?!! - Yea Bro Overseer Man but I just had new light that actually Pastor Russel was right, yo ho ho'

Oh 'nuther one. In the top of our old church ( a converted house) there were some massive leather sofas. In a fit of youthful exhuberance and animal savagery I spent an hour ripping them to shreds with a kitchen knife after one particularly boring servce. The next week it was mentioned from the pulpit that some vandal had destroyed some furniture that had been earmarked for a local needy family. No one ever suspected the innocent eight year old. I threw the knife away.

As a kid one cold and frosty morning I thought up a really good plan to get warm. I stood in front of our gas fire and pulled my pyjamies down. My butt was getting really nice and toasty when I bent over too far and pressed my bare cheeks against the very hot metal grill. When the doctor expressed surprise at my burger king bum I was too embarrassed to tell him how I did it. To this day my family and that doctor were either very kind to me or must believe I had teflon jammies. I couldn't sit down for weeks.

Tithing
by AshtonCA inokay, i have looked all over this board and i can't find anything on tithing.
actually, i tried to search for it, but i can never get the search thing to work.. anyway.
jw's are against tithing, but when i look it up, other religions have scriptures that say we are supposed to.

In the Mormon church tithing is merely a precursor to a law called the United Order/law of consecration which means that you give everything to the church and you are made a steward over what you need - in other words ownership of property will cease - ultimate communism !!!! We tried it once and failed miserably (150 odd years ago) - now we stick with the law of tithing though if you've been to the temple one of the promises made their is to sacrifice everything for building up of God's kingdom.. On top of tithing there are additional offerings - fast offerings (once a month the value of two meals)and then if you go on a mission you need to find £5000 odd. And then there are extra donations that are made as needs permit...buildings, book of Mormon printing costs etc.. Oh while I remember I think the top church leaders do live the law of consecration ...I'm fairly certain the apostles and 1st Presidency give all their assets to the church.

demon attack in Kingdom Hall
by Noumenon in.
i once heard about a sister that was having a lot of trouble with demons, and apparently she had a bad demon attack in the kingdom hall.. anyone else heard of such a thing?
so much for the house of jehovah being some sort of refuge.. i have also heard of a witness who still experienced a demon attack despite calling out jehovah's name aloud.

I once had trouble taking a former coven member to church - the nearer we got to church the more ill he got. He eventually passed out on the floor. He had joined the church many years earlier but had left and got into witchcraft. He did get possessed a few times whne I was there ... freaky. Hang on let me see if I can find a picture...

What world scenario would make you go back?
by Qcmbr inwhenever the world has a bit of a hiccup (like the y2k bug) people seem to be keen to pick up their religious feelings again.. are there any situations that might make you heed back through the kingdom hall doors again???

dostprefer - not a chance mate - the JWs offer me a lot less than I've already got :) In fact this is what you'd be asking me to do:
1/ Give up a living prophet and loads of extra scriptures including a prophets inspired ranslation of the bible for the jolly green giant bible which doesn't even have the claim of being translated / corrected by prophets.
2/ When I die you want me to cease to exist - I won't even be present when I'm judged - as opposed to living on sans body until the resurrection. I mean ask Peter Pan to live without his shadow.
3/ I have to stop believeing everyone has a chance in this life or the next to accept Jesus but even if they reject Him that they will be given a place that will make them happy - instead I have to join in hoping I've done enough and that everyone else is stuffed and then on top of that all the anointed rulers (which I missed the boat of joining)come from Philadelphia. I'm a brit - no disresepect to you yanks but ...Philadelphia!
4/ I have to risk the blood transfusion thing - 'cos that's exactly what they were getting at in the bible.
5/ I have to give up believing that everyone who wants to join the church has to be baptised (so no more Mormon baptism for the dead) but then hang on - I have to be baptised to join the JW's otherwise I'm toast .....
6/ I have to give up the securiy of knowing that if I ever leave the faith I will still have access to family and friends who will care for me just as much as before - for the Good Samaritan role of ...the priest(if my JW colleague / family member leaves) or .. the man beaten up and ignored by the JW priest becasue I fell out. No thanks I love my family and so does my belief system.
7/ Stop believing that being an Elder does NOT give me any extra rights over my wife - 'No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned' and start believing that I am boss (actually maybe that sounds cool heheh - wife won't go for it methinks)
8/ Stop reading and educating myself from all sources - I have to stop free thought and spend all my time cramming incorrect light into my head until extra light turns up and then I have to play doublespeak games to say that I never really believed the old light anyway and besides it was some JWs being overzealous etc..
9/ I have to deny that my prayers up to now have been answered by God because apparently I was praying to the wrong one and about the wrong things anyway I don't need to ask anymore about things I don't understand becasue I can get all the answers in the Awake and Watchtower which though aren't written by prophets they are nevertheless inspired - groovy.
10/ I have to stop believing in modern day miracles , healing , visions etc.. for..oh JWs dont have any spiritual manifestations or do they....so how is the Awake written???.
11/ I have to go door knocking for ten hours a month (or is it a week?) and tell people that the world is coming to an end - I spend two years already and told people that God loves them even if they don't want to listen.
12/ I have to believe in a bunch of made up prophetic dates and get excited about 1914 etc.. which is a crock of point 8. This means I give up my current belief that no man knows the end but that we need to be prepared for all possibilities.
13/ My beliefs promise that I can be like God in knowledge - I'm not certain what eternity here really entails once the gardens planted for JWs.Sorry Dost - your not offering me anything better or more fun. Even if you think my lie is a pile of rubbish I think my lie is better than your lie and I'd rather believe mine:)
With a smile and without malice.
