Who can resist demon-on-demon action? ;-)
It IS weird to look back and realize there was a time (not too far in the past) when I thought particular types of information were "bad", as in dangerous.
Dave
do you realize that when we were witnesses, we believed these "apostate" sites were nothing less than "spiritual pornography"?

Congrats, Derek!

i am curious about who (after leaving) went on to other religions vs. lost faith completely.
once i started questioning the wt society, i began to question everything.
as jw's we are taught from childhood up that other religions are false - so it seems easy, after elliminating the last one, to be rid of religion altogether.. .
LOL @ Gary!
>> went on to other religions vs. lost faith completely.
I didn't "lose" my faith, per se. I abandoned it when I realized it was based on falsehoods. Sort of like believing a box contains a diamond because you have been told that it does. When you open the box and see that it's empty, you don't lose faith -- you gain knowledge. It's that knowledge that compels you to abandon your faith.
Dave
queen of fluff, here.. i'm too tired to talk serious.
(wanna hear what budweiser has to say?).
.
Hey Dinah,
I'd love to play fluff with you, but I'm headin' back to bed. Hopefully to sleep this time, instead of that staring at the ceiling WISHING I was sleeping stuff I was doing earlier.
Enjoy the night morning!
Dave
suppose you are a witless and are really keen on putting "theocratic" logos and stickers onto your personal items ,where would you stick them for best effect and can you think of any kingdumb messages you would like to advertise on such items?.
any thoughts?.
Some JW's have those no-blood key chains and try to flash them around a bit hoping to spark a conversation with them. Seems an odd point to try to spark on, but that's the intent.
I know of some that leave Watchtower's on their dashboard in the hopes that someone will see them and ask about them. (Like THAT's gonna happen!)
I've never seen it, but I could easily imagine a JW putting up the Watchtower's calendar in their cubicle at work. (Does the Watchtower still print a calendar?) I could also imagine putting a Day's Text booklet on one's desk for the same hoping-someone-will-ask-about-it reason.
Dave
even though it's snowing right now.. my wife just hung out the feeders a couple days ago.
i shot the pics off of our covered porch.. .

Gorgeous little guys, aren't they? Thanks for sharing these pics!

words fail me.....
Cool story, Vinny! Thanks for sharing that!
i have posted here once before my jw boyfriend and i (an evolutionist) love each other very much, but as you all can imagine we have many differences and difficult times.
the latest major debate at the moment is that (and forgive me if this might offend anyone here) but by spending so much time in the ministry service (preaching religion) and referring to any world issue as man doesnt have the answer is a very selfish and self-centred way of living ones life.
in the other hand i see many friends of mine renouncing their comfortable lifes in europe to do humanitarian voluntary field work in places like africa and for that according to this sick belief they are all ought to die in armageddon for not doing gods will now my argument above as you probably agree does not go down very well although i have tried many other subtle ways without much luck.
His whole world of information is filtered through different premises than the ones you hold. For him, Jehovah is almighty, all loving, and all knowing. The Bible is his inerrant word. And the Watchtower is the earthly expression of his will. So no matter what logic, reason, or facts you may bring to the table, if any of it contradicts his accepted premises, you'll get nowhere.
It seems that a person has to be "ready" to understand they are in a cult before they can leave. I put ready in quotes since I've yet to see anyone put forth a good theory on how to tell when a person is ready, or how to assist them into that state.
I will warn you that if your intent is to keep him, you don't want to let yourself get cast in the role of an "opposer". If you -- even subtley -- suggest that it's "Jehovah or me", he'll pick Jehovah.
Good luck!
Dave
i noticed on the news the other night that there are now paparazzi companies that you can hire for yourself.
you get a limo and wherever you let them know you're going they will show up with a hoard of photographers as you get out of the limo with all the fanfare!.
this would be great to do if you had to attend a kingdom hall for some reason (memorial, funeral, wedding, etc.
I'm usually not into just messing with the dubs, but I have to admit I love this idea. Show up at a meeting with all that fanfare, they couldn't help but imagine you were some big, important person. Your hired paparazzi guys would all know ahead of time what your backstory was, and they could leak it. That one event would live on at the circuit level (at a minimum) for years!
Especially if you got halfway thru the sunday talk, then stood up and said, "Jehovah's Witnesses? I thought this was a Mormon church! Damn it! OK guys, let's roll!"
Dave
the truth is it---it's all about appearances.
it's all a fraud.
you are expected to "observe" a "ceremony".
L&R, here's a Watchtower quote I grabbed from the recent thread "Jesus as Mediator":
*** w89 12/15 30 Do You Remember? ***
• In what sense does Paul use the term “mediator” when referring to Jesus at 1 Timothy 2:5, 6? In this text, Paul uses the Greek word me·si'tes for “mediator,” which term has a legal significance, so he is not using this word in the broad sense common in many languages. Hence, Paul is not saying that Jesus is Mediator between God and all mankind. Rather, he is referring to Christ as legal Mediator of the new covenant, which laid the basis for Christ’s anointed followers to share with him in his heavenly Kingdom. (2 Corinthians 5:1, 5; Ephesians 1:13, 14; Hebrews 8:7-13)—8/15, pages 30, 31.
So they say Jesus' "mediator" role applies only to the 144,000.
