my wifes mother is a devout single dub.
i understand that it would be innapropriate for a young couple to be alone in a house, or even go out in public together if they are not married or had a chapperone.
so we just found out a certain brother whos wife died a few years ago has been stopping over my mother in laws recently.
A chapperone is required at all times. Witness couples of the opposite sex are not to be trusted alone. In one of my old cong's, the local presiding overseer, who was recently widdowed, started "seeing" a single sister in the cong. Although they were both in their late 40's, and he had the top job in the cong, no exemptions were made.
He got pretty mad when other elders pointed out he still needed a chapperone. They are married now.

listen to this: the other day my wife was talking in her sleep and she said "sister xyz died".
i just thought, well she's dreaming.
the next day one of my friends told me "sister xyz died yesterday".
Another possible explanation is that you remember the "hits" and never notice the "misses".
I'm very open minded about this, and there are definately more hits than misses. This might happen once a month if i'm lucky. Or mabey i'm psychic.....Not.
Its just an interesting quirk of nature that doesen't really need an explanation. I just enjoy it when it happens.

This is an interesting subject for me. Ever since i can recall, i have always been geting that "de-ja-vo feeling". Like, something happens in my day, and i instantly flash back to a dream a few nights before, and i reconise the immediate next few seconds as events unfold.
I'm not able to remember my dreams on a morning, but i remember them through the day when they line up with something thats happening.
Its happened since i was at least 5 or 6.
As far as sceptic input, well..... i dont know. I'm not really into fortune telling or all that crap, but i know what i know. I have dreams, sometimes they appear to come true.
Once i won loto, but i'm still waiting for that one.

yesterday i linked to a web site that left me spellbound!
here on jwd you can read as many profiles and testimonies as you like about life in the "truth", but yesterday i linked to: http://www.towertotruth.net/audio.htm and heard real life heart wrenching tales of misery and abuse.. .
i really recommend to all that you have a listen, especially those "still in" jw's trying to decide what to do.

I really recommend to all that you have a listen, especially those "still in" JW's trying to decide what to do. It puts a human touch to the tragic life many have had to lead. Hearing emotion in a grown mans voice peak, untill he breaks down sobbing, rams home the fact that the cheery witness way of life is all smoke and mirrors.
Last night I downloaded 3 testimonies, and saved them onto a CD. I listened to them in the can on the way to and from work today, and it was just the things i needed to hear to help me resolve to never go back.
Floyd Erwin and Tom McGovern are fantastic speakers. I definately recommend listening.
Thank you to TOWERMAN for providing the link in his thread yesterday. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/91161/1.ashx

i found this reference, but i have never ever heard it spoken about.
what is this great pyramid?
how did it effect the early witness doctrines?
I found this reference, but i have never ever heard it spoken about. What is this Great Pyramid? How did it effect the early witness doctrines? Are any still semi-mixed up with what witnesses believe? Or is it all crap?
Russell's grounds for these beliefs was the usual mishmash of Biblical
passages inherited from generations of free-lance interpretation in
fundamentalist circles. However, he combined with this another mother lode
of fruitless speculation that commanded much interest in America at this
time. This was the curious superstition that pretends to find secret wisdom
and prophecy hidden in the dimensions and structure of the Great Pyramid of
Egypt. Readers may be familiar with one form of this superstition from the
newspaper advertisements of the Rosacrucians, a sect which has no
pretensions to the "Bible religion" of the Witnesses. Here Russell was
influenced by a certain Charles Piazzi Smyth, who had already combined
Biblical speculation with "pyramidology," finding references to the Great
Pyramid in such passages as this: "In that day there will be an altar to the
Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its
border. It will be a sign and a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of
Egypt..." (Isa. 19:1920). Russell's predictions were based equally on the
Bible and the Great Pyramid.
The original name of Russell's followers was Zion's Watchtower Tract
Society, which was changed in 1896 to the Watchtower Bible and Tract
Society. The name Jehovah's Witnesses was adopted in 1931 at the suggestion
of Russell's successor, "Judge" J.F. Rutherford, who took it from such
Biblical passages as Isaiah 43:12 and John 18:37, identifying the sect with
those of whom the Bible had spoken. It was Rutherford, too, who rid the sect
of the embarrassment of "pyramidology" after Russell's death in 1916. The
Witnesses now claim to base themselves on the Bible alone, without reference
to the Great Pyramid.
Thanks - Phil
after a recent 'spiritual' discussion with a relative, it hit me that so much of the jw terminology is not to be found anywhere in the bible or, at best is taken totally out of context.
yet, it's by these terms & titles that jws approve and condemn each other, the entire world, and worse believe that god even cares!.
i can just imagine someone at the pearly gates, explaining to peter: 'yeah, but i was a "pioneer!".
Mother organisation
i had to come here and post about this.
my parents who have dutifully shunned me for nearly 9 years had the nerve to ask me for money.
it wasn't for food, a car payment, house payment or anything like that.

My sister just sent me a postcard inviting me to a jewlery party at her house
Go and buy some nipple rings. Would be good for a laugh. You are obviously a wicked "worldly" person now.

i remember many witness businesses that would pop up.
usually they would say "i'll just offer it to the friends to get started, then when it takes off i can pioneer".
it was usually one after the other for the same people.
We had a brother buy a franchise for Front door peep-holes. He enlisted the 3 local pioneers to sell them for a small hourly wage + small commission. The pioneers were walking around industrial estates trying to sell to factory workers who were outside smoking during their lunch break. It got sticky when the sisters were assigned to go back through there witnessing. The PO had a word to the brother and the whole thing got closed down.
The same brother tried to sell painted house numbers. (A painted on black square, a stencil of your house number in white, and sprinkled with glass beads to make em reflect cars headlights, painted on the curb next to your driveway.) He would go through the streets door-knocking and getting orders, then he had 2 out-of-work brothers doing the painting. That didn't take off eather.
