I was talking to New Boy the other day and mentioned that I had a collection of lead plates that printed some of the magazines back in the '70's so he thought it would be interesting to post a picture of one. They make great paper weights and conversation starters for those that come into my office.

More bethel stories
by darth frosty ini was talking to a friend i was at bethel with and he mentioned something i had forgotten (for the sake of my sanity.
) we were there during the 90s and that was the transition of hair styles for black men, it was going from the fade to the baldy.
now bethel would cut your hair, you just had to wait four weeks between cuts.

I once told the barber that I wanted a hair cut like Wheelock had: One with a hole in the top!

My Bethel Experience final chapter
by new boy inthere were other people who either killed themselfs or tried to kill themselfs while they were at "the house of god.
one person who did kill himself was richard wheelock, press room overseer ......he jumped out of a window at the watchtower farm one day.......it seemed, he was never quite the same after his wife "willy" died..she seemed to be the only one that he could relate to.......which would make sence.....because he sure couldn't relate to any of us in the press room..........he would come over to our press and say "here is the work... get in out".......then just walk away.......he was not the type of person you would really want to talk to anyway......but wouldn't it be nice if just now and then, like every year or two, they might ask you how you were doing?.........you laugh.......but its true......i asked a friend of mind who was the press operator of press # 6 which at the time was one of the three biggest presses at bethel.
he had been in the press room for 4 full years.

New boy and Dog Patch: Do you remember Norman Dignard, make ready crew? How about V. Stutts, he was a Hoe operator. You mentioned Tom Plank, was he a Cottrel operator? I remember I worked on press 8 not far from Hoe row. The operator was E. Alcorn (he called himself "nigger charlie") and called me "whitey". We actually became friends. Do you remember David Newmen? I worked with him on press one next to Wheels office. He died of aids about 10 years ago (he was very gay). Do you remember Jay Kozenskie? He was Wheels assistant when I was there, nice guy. Wheels was a tough man and nobody liked him (man of few words). I worked mostly on MAN presses in building three, 7th floor. I will try to PM you with my cell phone #.

JW Terminology
by KW13 inok guys, list the ones ya know.. the truth/truth = the truth according to jw's is their religion.
for example someone baptized as a jw is baptized in the truth, whereas someone baptized elsewhere is not.. new light/light = a better understanding of the current status quo or 'light' in general which is just knowledge, new light allows for a complete change in beliefs without exception.. god's word = mainly the bible but anything else published by the wbt tract society is also acceptable.. true christians = refers only to jehovah's witnesses or suitable examples from the bible.. apostates = anyone who has been a jehovah's witness who opposes their beliefs (not necessarily people or individuals) and shares how they feel about the watchtower bible and tract society with anyone.
a person who hasn't been a jehovah's witness but does clearly oppose their message and beliefs may also be referred to as an apostate.. experiences = stories that will upbuild and encourage jw's.

My Bethel Experience Part 17
by new boy inmore "odds and ends".
i liked lyman swingle (governing body member)......he knew when to curse at the right time.
i think, thats why i went to him, when i was having so much trouble with debbie's parents.......he seemed "cool" and down to earth.............he might have been bit of a racist though.. one time a self righteous (known as sr) new boy, went to him and complained about what he heard in the bindery..........."brother swingle" the kid said "i heard some brothers cursing, in the bindery!

New Boy: We must have crossed paths when at Bethel. I remember Old Lady Margret comming up to me and saying: "I'll rip your face off with a rusty trash can lid!" I was new at Bethel at the time and from the country and this knocked me for a loop. Did you play in any of the baseball games between the departments? Swingle use to ref the games. Did you know Charlie Feckel on the GB? He and I were good friends (boy did he fill my ear full with GB gossip).

My Bethel Experience Part 9
by new boy inthe the worst thing, someone could call you at bethel, was a "jack".............. as in " that guy is a real jack, he doesn't work at all".
the other term not used very much anymore, was "pot licker" used basically the same way.there has been some bad things done at bethel.
you name it, someone has done it...........but the absolute worst possible thing, a bethelite could do is be a theft!

I very much enjoy your experiences. I was at Bethel for 4 years (72-76) and served at Brooklyn and the Farm as a press operator. One of the funniest situations was a brother wearing a jumpsuit. This jump suit was old and threadbare. He got to close to the press and one of the ink rollers grabed the jumpsuit and pulled it off. He was lucky that he was not injured but unlucky in that he had no underwear. So there he is standing butt naked when a tour group came around the corner. Good thing we had a lot of paper that he grabed to cover with.
I remember the time Colon Lake, who was a big shot in the factory (number 4 in dispatch) ran off with a Gilead sister and left his wife. This sent shock waves through Bethel.
There was a time when the Farm was under construction and a friend of mine cut his finger. So the infirmary gave him a "finger sleeve" to protect his cut. He would dispose of the sleeve as it got dirty. His house keeper saw the sleeves and thought they were condoms. She gave the evidence to the Bethel office which called him in. When he got to the office the home overseer had his trash can on the desk with the sleeves in them and asked him "what is this?". He replied "a trash can?".
We had one rape when I was at the Farm. The sister could only remember that the "brother" was wearing red plaid shirt. Sooo the Farm overseer had all the brothers go outside after breakfest and stand in the parking lot. While we were out in the parking lot every room was inspected for this type of shirt. To this day I will NOT buy any red plaid shirt!
There were numerous "affairs" where brothers and "married sisters" would get in trouble. The reason for this in my opinion was due to two factors. One, the brother was in an enviornment that had little if no social interaction with single sisters and these brothers are young with the hormones in overdrive. Two, the sisters were usually from some small rural area and got married to a local brother. She now finds herself in amongst all these brothers in a world she never thought existed. So this was probably why I found a sister imbracing a brother in the house keepers closet (on about a dozen occasions).
I'll never forget the time I was lying on the bed in my room watching TV, about 11PM. When a Gilead sister came in and a took her bathrobe off and said "i'm ready now sweet heart". She had some sort of neglige on. The only light in the room was from the TV. I sat up in the bed and said "I think you have the wrong room". She screemed and grabed her bathrobe and ran down the hallway. I though to myself "how in the hell am I going to explain this to the Bethel office if the incident is seen". Nothing happened. The sister did not recognize me at breakfest the next morning but I sure noticed her! I found myself staring at her (after all I had seem) ha ha. (For those not familar with Bethel they turn the hall lights off at 10 and there is only small night lights on the floor and it is hard to see the room numbers)

Questions and Answers.
by Blueblades inexcluding minimus, who is not afraid to ask questions.. i want to know what sharp - witted persons have to say, only then can i learn and move out of my box ( so - to speak ) i am an inquisitiive person.
i must admit that sometimes i hold back because, i do get intimidated, because of not knowing how to express myself back to the responses of sharp-witted ones.. blueblades.

Yea I've been there to. I perceived others as sharp witted for a long time and held back from expressing myself. Then I discovered that the others were not as sharp as I had thought, but rather the problem was the way I saw myself. I worked on my self perception and discovered that I was just as "sharp" as other people. Many times people will delibertly try to intimdate you by appearing to be smart/sharp or whatever so as to dominate others. One way to show how shallow some sharp people are is to ask only "why" when they make a point. If you ask "why" more than a few times and put the proof on the other person you often times see them back pedal and run.

Sorry, I need to vent for a moment...
by Abandoned innormally, i don't mind where i'm at in my life.
i'm forty, no kids, low-paying job, live in a trailer court, etc (and trust me there's more to the etc, then i've already mentioned), but today i had a hard time.. one of my best friends from high school was a big dope head (no offense to the dope heads out there).
he showed up nearly every day to our first period art class smelling of weed and was generally so whacked out of his mind that he got horrible grades.. he finally graduated - barely - and made it to college.

Rule number one: Don't feel sorry for yourself.
Rule number two: Dont't look back
Rule number three: Learn from your mistakes and take responsibility ( tough but you can do this)
Rule number four: Make your own luck ( I could write a book about this)
Rule number five: Its not how much you make, its how you spend it ( I learned this the hard way)
Rule number six: Have a plan. ( those that don't have a plan, plan on failing)
