Do they try too hard to be 'normal?'

it has occurred to me recently, that a lot of the behavior of jws in good standing is done to trick themselves and others into thinking they're normal.

when in fact, they're not.. example:.

when a young jw man goes to a 'gathering' he will drink one beer loudly and proclaim how good cold beer is!

Hey All:

I agree with joel. Despite all the crap they put in our heads, and all the unusual shit we did, we are still just like evrybody else. We just had a different method to our madness or it was put in a different covering but all in all it's the same bullshit everyone else goes through.

I remember I did this internship at a bank my junior yr in High School. That was when I realized that the WTS operates a great deal like the coporate world in it's training sessions. They just put a different spin on things and dress it up a bit differently. But it's mainly the same.

a bizarre decision!!!

hi guys...i just wanted to share with you all something that happened over the weekend, that i found really weird.. on saturday i went to a cousins wedding.....we are quite a large extended family, not jw's(only my mom is a witness), so it was nice to be with the family on such special occasions.. throughout the evening i sat down with a cousins husband, who i hadn't seen for about two years.

we had a pint and he decided to get out a pack of cigars.

now these cigars were big fat ones (you know the cuban type)...he lit up.

I just think you were showing respect to your mother that's all. The situation you're in is a complex one. I think there is a difference between flaunting newfound freedom and showing it. I personally think you made the right decision. If your mother shows respect and concern for you, then by all means show it back to her.

My husband embarrassed me this weekend....

....without even knowing it.. we went to a wedding saturday night and sat next to a close friend who is dating the mother of the groom.. he is white, and the groom's mom is half filipina/half mexican.

he was telling my hubby and me how in love with her he is, but he was worried about overcoming 'cultural' differences.. then my hubby tells him it's no big deal we also had to overcome big cultural differences.

(i think he's gonna say how he grew up poor in the south bronx, i was traveling the world or how he was a college basketball star, i never finished college, or how he's black, i'm 1/4 black and never made any effort to identify with 'black churches' or "naacp" or something.....).

Awwww go easy on the man. None of that stuff you mentioned can cause anywhere near the division between you two as the Tower could. I say this because he's got to be openminded to marry a person as socially different from himself as you are or were. Really sometimes it can be easier for ppl to put up with social differences than religious differences. Hey the fact that you're a goddess prolly didn't hurt either. Also remember the fact that we're male. Can't master the think before you speak thing. Damn!!!!

Ask for your "Ordained Minister" ID C...

with all of the discussion going on on the board lately about "all jw being ordained ministers," i thought i'd point out something that may be new to a lot of you.. your local congregation has wbts id cards which states the 'cardbearer is an ordained minister.

' they won't volunteer these to you, i had to reg pio for two years before i got mine.

however, they can come in handy when traveling!

What about the scriptural obligation to preach?

i've always been taught that each disciple of christ has a scriptural obligation to preach, and to do so in imitation of jesus and his disciples.

they did this by house to house, in synagogues, and in the marketplaces.

this is one thing that has always kept me close to jehovah's witnesses.

I don't have time to now but I had to respond. the simple fct of the mater is that all christians are not required to be preachers of the good news. Preaching the good news seems to be a calling. If one feels he is called by God to do it then he should. However it is totally unethical and unscriptural to require a christian to preach to others.
