Hypnosis and JWs

the ministry school features the #4 talk "why hypnotism is not for christians".

first we learn the jw definition of hypnotism:

I thought that most JWs walked around in a trance. Is that the same thing?

Me too Jim.

I have come to the conclusion that I must have been under a form of hynosis for most of my life, how else can I explain why I was/am unable to make rational thought myself. Hypnosis uses "repetition for emphasis" too!

Why I believed this all this time! It is very frustrating. I feel like a horse that was blinkered its whole life and only saw one destination - armageddon for myself. Is indoctrination from birth any different from hypnosis in its long term effects? Every self-destructive thing I did was because I believed so sincerely when I was in, and out.

Hangover Cures....... (groan)

i'm sitting here bleary eyed typing this, counting the empty cans from last night feeling like crap.

so in order to remedy this i've just put some bacon and sausages in the frying pan, the mushrooms and tin tomatoes are standing by as is the bread for the fried bread to mop it all up in.

kettle on and tea (about 5 cups) beckons.

The old water thing does stop you getting as bad a hangover but it also stops you getting drunk. Best cure, force yourself to eat something just before you pass out however little you want it. If you were too drunk to do that then puking helps.

If you were too drunk to void then next morning i find lying in bed all day helps, with movies and pizza. I try to avoid that less healthy option and force myself to multivit and a light breakfast followed by a walk to the local pool and then a long lesiurely swim, which is also amusing because every single person in that pool seems to go into superfocus and makes the whole experience undeniably less boring!

did i mention also that 3 orgasm8 are brilliant too for clearing the head - must be that rush of oxygen to the brain.

This kinda sucks

i've been here on maui for about 7 months now, to start life over after my ordeal on the mainland with the dubbies.

and for the most part it's been good...... until last month when my employer announced bankruptcy.

so i am out of work for now, but and i am starting my own business again.

Hey Puternut, have a happy birthday for tomorrow. I think it is amazing when i hear stories of elders leaving particularly after such a long time. I left physically sometime ago, but mentally am only on the breach so to speak. If you have managed that far you have much to be thankful for. t can be lonley to begin, but its not always that way. How restricted were we for friends within the borg and how many people can we now make friends with, who I am sad to say are so much more worthy of our friendship. In the world it is rare tio be written off as unworthy and back there so very easy. I felt unworthy all my life until recently!

What did you do during school assemblies?

in my school the two jw kids sat out of assemblies and i always wondered what they got up during that time.

i always wanted to have the courage to say i had religious objections to assemblies but to be honest i just hated siting cross legged on the wooden floor for ages.

anyone experience sitting out assemblies (or whatever your school equivelant is) and what did you do?

I had lots of friends at school who wanted to skip assembly too and were basically green with envy. I did what all good JWs did and gloated!

the elders announced a new meeting schedule at the morning meeting.

on sunday, we will still have the public talk followed by a study of old watchtower articles until we get new magazines.

Holly I couldnt agree with you more - when I look back I think that is what I thought at 16, but was too young and not able to articulate that myself. The other part was thinking that I was so deeply evil that my famaily would be better off without me disrupting their lives because as hard as I tried I simply couldn't live that way.

Your First Kiss

mine was in the 7th grade by a boy named joe.

it took me by surprise and i was dissapionted, because he tried to swallow my face!

'Monopoly' games until 4 am

I remember you playing those and sometimes they would go on for a couple of days. Sadly I never learnt to play because my dad reckoned it was materialistic and would set me on the path to greed!

Did anyone else have any rules in their house that no one else had? For instance we were never allowed to watch the Wizard of Oz because if it had wizard in the title that was enough to indicate demonic content. We couldn't watch Knightrider either, because if a car talked then it had to be demonised...actually remembering that cracks me up now. We even had a family study on it as my dad was a great believer in centreing the study around any spiritual problems we might have! The daft thing was my cousins were allowed to watch it when they came to stay, their Dad was an elder, so we would all have to leave the room discreetly until it was over. The cousins on the other hand were not allowed to watch the A Team because it was violent and they might start doing dangerous manoeuvures with cars flying through the air and exploding. We were allowed to watch it because Dad said it wasnt really violent, because they all got out of the cars alive!

Ah the memories!

I was 10 when I was removed from school and taught at home although my younger sisters were still allowed to go

I was 14 when I was marked as a bad associate because I ran away from home.

I was only just 16 when I was thrown out of my house and soon after disfellowshipped in part for trying to kill myself because I couldnt cope with missing my parents and sisters.

I was 18 when I got disfellowshipped the second time. And 23 when I was last disfellowshipped.

Bearing in mind that I spent most of my time at home alone prior to disfellowshipping and got hardly any association with humans other than my immediate family and then when I was working for reinstatement, which took the best part of a year each time I lived like a recluse - attending meetings alone with no one speaking to me and going home to a tiny bedsit, alone - nmot able to ring anybody for a chat because I was disfellowshipped and could not associate with worldly people either - I think its amazing that I have any social skills at all.

Did you really FMZ? I have to say when I realised I wouldnt have to live in Paradise I was relieved. I never wanted to go there - I tried to like the idea but all I could think of was that there would be no tv and no books and that if my mum or dad died beforehand and then got ressurected they would have to live in separate houses and not be married anymore, because the ressurected would be like the angels. I remember when I was told that when I was 5 i cried and cried secretly and prayed to God that he wouldnt let my mum or dad die before armageddon and that if they did that i didnt want to go to paradise. Its no wonder that carrying around the sort of fear at that age that I was and am a troubled soul. Why was I never allowed to be a child!

"We miss you" experiences

i have a couple.

the elder that used to study with me came to my door one day.

he reminded me of all the wonderful times we had out in service (i really couldn't remember any).

I got a couple of these missives from my two best friends. The first from a sister a bit older than me who was an elders daughter. The interesting part is that she went onto marry a "brother" who I had been out with a couple of times, one I might add that she had carefully counselled me against seeing because his habitual lateness for meetings made him unspiritual! Anyway there was a terrible dearth of marriagable brothers in our congregation and well she was going on 21 - which makes you practically a spinster in JW terms - so she just took what was available and married him. i remember one day they were working my street hand in hand on the ministry after I had been disfellowshipped and gave me a good hard compassionless stare as they crossed the street to avoid me.

So they had a baby.

Next I heard was that the hubby and the sister's mother had an affair and ran off together living my ex-friend holding the baby and the school overseer holding his head in despair and grief no doubt. I could not believe this could happen - not in the organisation! You'd be hard pressed to find a "worldly" man who would stoop so low as to sleep with their wife's mother whilst babysitting his daughter with the grandmother. The elder and his wife had been married about 30 years. As far as I know the elder and the daughter are still in the "truth". I bet the congregation gossips were kept busy for months on that story.

I, on the other hand, didn't respond to the sisters "I miss you letter" because she had ended it telling me that if I didn't come back to the meetings she would not be speaking to me again. Instead I continued on my wicked, merry debauched way and have two wonderful worldly men in my life and fingers crossed will hopefully have a few more before I die! I think I made the right choice.
