Also if mini asked me that question a few months ago the answer would be entirely opposite to my answer today!

It's not the better persons that will be saved, but those that do the will of God.
Dustin - I don't think of it so much as us screwed as God is screwed. Look who he picked to spend eternity with - 6 million witlessess! I could almost feel sorry for him, if I gave a toss! he definitely drew the short straw - whilst the Devil got all the intelligent free thinkers!

Do Your Neighbors Think You're Nuts?
by prophecor indo you socialize with your neighbors?
everyone knows how we as a religious group only socialized with each other, then when inside the hall, we only associated with a select few, those who were deemed worthy of our association.
now that you are out, or in varying degrees of staying within the borg, are you allowing yourself to get out and mingle amongst those in your community?

((((leological one))))))) What you said about horrible things always coming out of your mouth - I can relate to that. Anytime anyone at work talks to me I reply negatively - its become habit - it was the way to stop "worldly" people taking to me so i wouldnt be influenceed. But I am changing that and thinking of nice things that are really there in my heart to say and practising smiling a lot more too.
As for neighbours - I have thought my B/F was totally insane for chatting to the neighbours over the garden fence - then he started going our for a monthly curry with them too. I was like lets hide in the house if they are in their garden - even if it was a glorious sunny day. But our neighbours are lovely friendly people and I am starting to take time to chat to them too and be friendly. Its hard to get rid of that "avoid the worldly people" mentality out of your head, but rewarding to open yourself up to their friendship.
(Secretly I still wish the Conifers I planted to make their garden and ours a bit more separate would grow more quickly, but thats more fro topless sun bathing purposes!)

*Tears*
by Krystal ini am 20 years old and i left the organization when i was 17. there are of course many gorey details which i will not get into right now... but i just wanted to say how happy i am to have found this fourm.
as many of you remember, we were always instructed not to read anything about jehovah's witnesses that wasn't written by the organization.
well, that instruction stuck, and this is the first time i three years that i have dared to even look.. needless to say, i found some very disturbing information.

Krystal - welcome! I waited 6 years before I looked up witnesses on the net. Think of this postively - you are young and still can sucessfully get over all the hang ups and enjoy life to the full - like we are meant to.

Since they have the truth, it is very easy for them to presume that something is wrong with you since you don?t "see it". If left unchecked, this condescending attitude will come to the point where you have no credibility in their eyes.
CYP - very well written and the point above particularly valid. I remember this condescending attitude - when I couldn't ansswer my non JW boyfriend's questions I would just give up thinking - well he just doesnt understand. And this was up until a few months ago - over 6 years after i last attended a meeting. These habits die hard!

I fear spiders - and have lots of bad dreams that one gets into my bed and crawls up inside me - for that reason I find it very hard to sleep all night with my knickers off and usually sneak out of bed to put some on after the bouncey part.

The age standards for children are vile by our standards; that's because they are basically the standards of several hundred years ago.
I understand your point - BUT this set of rules basically say that its okay to sexual abuse female babies orally or anally and just not vaginally. If I read it right - it says this is not prohibited.

Bethel Trip
by RichieRich inok... this is good.

Richie - its hard to offer advice when you actually seem to have everything under control. I wish I had half your sense when I was 16. Instead I got my dfed.
I loved blondie's questions and would pay to be there to see the look on any bethelite's face if you got the chance to ask them!
And JWbot
Wear all black or something depressing looking.
I started wearing nothing but black for meetings and field service from the age of 13ish. When anyeone would ask why (JW or non JW) I'd just look at them dolefully and say "I am in mourning". Of course they would look concerned and I would add "for my life."
It was a great conversation stopper! When I was counselled about wearing black all the time, I obediently started adding some dark grey in. What a merry little girl I was!

Bullies
by Nancy Drake inhi ya'll.. i'm looking for advice on how to handle a neighborhood child that is bullying my son and other children in my apartment complex.
he is very mean, takes my son's stuff, tries to trip him on his bike by putting a stick into his spokes, pulling his underwear up, cussing at him.
at first i tried to talk to him nicely, asked him to please not do mean things to other children.

First off this is definitely not for a 6 year old to use, but I had to share it as it made me laugh. The other night Stephen Fry (director of forthcoming Hitchikers Guide and all round genius and rampant homo) was telling Parkinson how he dealt with bullying. If boys at his school started trying to pick a fight and wrestling with him - he would say "Oh God - don't touch me - I only get a massive erection!" And of course the boys left him alone!
