i came across this site and i felt a huge weight come off of my shoulders!
someone understands!
Welcome! I also joined several years after drifting away from the JWs, but it still feels good to talk to people who understand!
The Good Girl
i have been reading here for a while but as you may of noticed the assembly games post has flushed me out!
it has been fascinating to read all your experiences and to know that the stuff that i thought was odd, was thought odd by others as well.. two things made me leave:.
1. i found i could not do return visits as i did not want to break up families.
Welcome!!!
The Good Girl
i'm just really venting here!!
some of you know work has been a bit slow!
i work for a company that makes parts for 3m.
Glad you're feeling better. I've heard nurses who are pharm reps say it is so easy. You just dress up in cute suits and slingback shoes, bring free food, and talk about the new medicine from some company. It may actually be fun!
i remember being a teenager and my hormones were on overdrive.
the young witnesses i knew, male and female, were all feeling the same thing.
we would bring up sex, in one form or another, all the time.
I think that sex was overhyped in just about all social circles. Don't you remember the conversations on the school bus when the 13 year old boys were talking about inches, and doing it all night, and how she screamed with delight? I also thought sex was going to be absolutely out of this world, but it was not from what the JWs told me, it was more the rumors in middle school.
Yeah, in my congreg. too, it was sort of taboo to break off an engagement since Joseph and Mary were viewed as "married" when they were only engaged or something like that. But sex certainly wasn't tolerated during the engagement.
several of the people i work with know i have left the jw's this year and have been great sounding boards .
one woman in particular was talking with me friday and mentioned her sister knows a man that use to be "high " up in the jw religion ( i think she means an elder ) and he would like to talk to anyone else leav ing .
i told her she could get his number for me, and i 'll decide if i should call him or not .
What does "apostates" mean anyway? I used to think anyone with that label was demonic, to be avoided at all costs. Now I think that the hundreds of us posters on the board are all apostates. OOOH. Scary. :)
It's great that you have so much "live" support in your exit. It must help a lot.
msmcducket's mother died this morning.
she posted the announcement deep in a thread she had started several months ago when her mother first became seriously ill, and as a result the post sort of got lost.
msmcducket, i hope you don't mind my taking the initiative to start a new thread about your mom.
So sorry for your loss, I'll be thinking of you.

i am a salesman, so will talk to anyone, anytime without fear.
but for some reason, everytime i need to speak to a jw i get a huge rush of nerves.. i also am an accountant and do tax returns, and this year lost most of my jw clients.
some went to another accountant in the congregation.
Wow, good for you Quandry. YOu have more guts than me.
I actually did get so stressed out the other day when I saw JWs on my street with the tract. My heart started beating fast, and I suddenly felt so angry, I wanted to really yell at them and say "What the hell do you think you're doing preaching about love? You disfellowshipped my sister, ruined her life, pulled away all her support system, and I am spending my day planning how to have the police come and take her to a psychiatric hospital while my JW mom is out in service!!! What kind of love is that?? Jesus said the greatest commandment is love..."
Yadda yadda yadda. I had the whole thing planned out in my head, and I know I was sweating and short of breath. But the JW lady just walked past me to the next house before I could say anything.
So yes, I get really stressed out talking to them.

Yes, Nathan, I do think this has something to do with that lawyer's article. I had mentioned that lawyers article to my JW sister, and she seemed to brush it off as untrustworthy or something. Hopefully when she sees this, she'll stop and think.
That, or she'll send me a copy of the article to help me "understand" the issue better.
By the way, how the heck is someone supposed to choose!!! Pray about it, and come up with a percentage in their head of what is acceptable??? Feel better having checked all "not acceptable?" But then what about when they realize their pioneer partner gets to accept all of them? This is total BS as someone else mentioned. It's getting so ridiculous, but they still put it in print, and the masses follow.

properly wed. .
captured by an institution called the watchtower bible.
When I started dating, telling people I was just getting out of being a JW was actually almost a pick-up line! I'm serious. What guy is going to turn down a sweet 21 year old who says "I just moved out from my parents and have never even kissed a guy, let alone celebrated any holidays. But now I'm ready for some change." THEY LOVED IT! I think it's an interesting conversation starter, if nothing else. And like others said, most people aren't familiar enough with JWs to realize what a huge deal it is. They think it's funny or slightly interesting, and then we move on and talk about what music we like or where we work or something else.
i have lots of perfume.....love to smell good.. estee lauder.......pleasures.

Jadore is my favorite followed by Bvulgari.
My father-in-law is a winer and diner. So he somehow thinks he HAS to have a gift for me everytime he visits. Of course the only thing at airports is perfume, which has worked to my advantage. I must have about 7 or 8 perfumes from him! They're great, but being a nurse, I'm not allowed to wear anything at work in case patients have allergies. So they mostly just sit there.
