Nicolau, I can't get into the web-site. I applied for membership in the community but I'd like to see what it's all about too. Thanks.

Catholics show JWs how to do it!

I don't think there is any comparison. In a Catholic confessional, many times the priest doesn't even know who is giving the confession. In a JW judicial meeting (which is NOT a confessional) there are several people present who are privy to the info and everyone knows the gossiping elders run and tell their wives the juicy gossip. How can they now try to claim Clergy/penitent privilege? They are hypocrites through and through!
I hope this law passes all over the world. It's time to stop the insanity. People who hurt children should not be protected from the law no matter what religion they belong to.

Interesting how "Jane Doe" talks like a good person and forgives Steve and tells him to forgive himself ... yet the whole family of JW's were at the courtroom passing out tracts! Pathetic!

Serial rapist faces victims in cour
October 18, 2000
Byline: GREG HARDESTY

Tearful victims stared down a serial rapist at his sentencing Tuesday, describing how his vicious attacks ripped apart their young lives.
``You took something from me I wasn't ready to give away,'' said Christina D., who was 13 when she was raped in Huntington Beach, along with her 16-year-old sister, by Steven Morales, 33.
Before the married father of two young children was sentenced to 101 years to life in state prison, he apologized to the seven victims as his wife, Cynthia, looked on from the gallery in the Santa Ana courtroom.
``I am sorry for the physical or mental trauma I caused you,'' Morales said. ``I have no excuse and offer none.'' The self-employed construction worker will be eligible for parole when he is 118.
Many victims expressed disbelief that a father could commit such crimes. ``How can you live with the fact that you have a little daughter?'' one victim, ``Jane Doe,'' asked Morales.
Several told Morales to look at them when they spoke. He complied, listening intently.
Morales attacked six teens and a 46-year-old woman in Brea, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Seal Beach and Tustin between June 1998 and January 1999. A database that includes DNA evidence led to his arrest.
Morales, a former Chino Hills resident and Jehovah's Witness, admitted to four counts of rape, six counts of sexual assault and one count of burglary.
Although most victims and their family members lashed out at Morales, ``Jane Doe'' was more forgiving.
``I don't hate you, because hate doesn't create love,'' she said. ``We're all survivors. We're not going to be victims the rest of our lives. ...
``Can you just look at my face for a second? I forgive you. And I want you to forgive yourself.''

Thanks Kent! I was about to link this article when I saw your post. I personally know Steve Morales. In fact, his sister is the one who brought me into "the truth." Steve grew up with my husband in Chino Hills. My husband's mother took him in when his then "worldly" family was "persecuting" him for becoming a JW. Steve is also a former Bethelite!
My husband told me lots of stories Steve and other friends of his who, by the way, are and were witnesses when these things happened. Long before Steve was arrested for the rapes in Orange County, he used to go up to people's doors and while he talked to the women at the door, his friend Dino would break in through the back door. He never told my husband that they raped these women. Only that they stold their purses. But my husband knows him very well and believes Steve is responsible for many, many rapes before he finally got caught.
More scoop about Steve is the fact that he gave a public talk the Sunday before he was arrested and was seriously being considered for being appointed as an elder! The day before his arrest he was disfellowshipped. The police had contacted his wife to let her know he was going to be arrested and she called the elders. When the news broke out of his arrest, the witnesses in the area started saying that he was not a JW because he was previously disfellowshipped. His wife, Cynthia and their two kids were at the last District Convention we attended where we sat together. I told my husband then that something strange was up with Steve. Although I never liked him because he was so self-righteous! By the time of his arrest, we were already well on our way out of the borg.
When the news first broke out, his whole family (now witnesses and the most self-righteous types you would ever know) said it was all lies and Satan's persecution. Others who never liked the family were the ones who said Jehovah had kept the organization clean because Steve was df'd before his arrest. I would ask, "But didn't he commit the acts WHILE STILL ACTIVE? And wasn't he giving public talks - perhaps the SAME DAY as he was raping children?"
Never went over well. But I avoided getting pinned by the elders.
Just some more scoop for ya'll.

Catholic church supporting abuse reporting in Mass
by Tina inhi all,.
for those who are interested, there is an article in the ny times about the catholic church in mass.
seems they are bowing to public pressure in supporting legislation on the mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse in that state.. it made me think how far the wts has yet to on catching up with public thinking on child abuse reporting.. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/08/08/08chur.html.. tina

Thanks for the link. It is interesting to see that the Catholic Church at least sent the priest to be checked out medically before transferring him. I mean the WTS doesn't even encourage THAT much with the pedophiles in their organization.
Pedophilia knows no socio-economic or religious boundaries. These types of laws are what is needed to identify pedophiles and get them treated and to protect the children. The WTS - as is typical of them - feel that they are above the law and that their policies are better than the legal policies. This ignorance is what got them into this mess to begin with!

BERRY LAWSUIT EVALUATED
by MadApostate ini would like to preface my discussion of the recently filed berry lawsuit with several remarks.
first, i am not an attorney, and my only connection with the legal profession is that which occasionally arises out of my personal or business affairs.
second, i have no access to court records, opinions, etc., other than what is available via internet search engines.

Dear Nicolau, Hi. I'm not quite sure if this is relevant but my husband and I know of a JW, Steven Morales of Chino Hills California who was convicted of being a serial rapist about two years ago (some of his victims were pre-teen). His entire family and many of the so-called "friends" supported him in court as well - after he was convicted due to DNA evidence.
Since you offered to obtain info for MA, I thought you might be the one to ask. Do you know how, or can you tell me how I can get copies of the court transcripts or any information on this case?

Are the GB Criminals?
by Amazing inare the gb criminals?
in some of my recent posts i have used this expression to describe the 'moral' aspect of the gb.
the question is why?
-
bluesapphire
Amazing, you stated that you know some of the GB don't believe "any" of their own dogma. How do you know this?
Thank you for another interesting post. These posts give me fuel for when talking with dubs. My husband is out now completely and much of the things I helped him came from your posts. He's not a reader so it was tough!
Thanks again,

Does anyone else find this hypocritical?
by Shaneliza ini'm new to this discussion board, so this may have been covered before.
i was raised in a jw family,(although i have been out for over 20 years) my mom and step-father are staunch believers.
being good jw's, they are against all "pagan" holidays, yet my mom took advantage of the boxing day sales, and my step-father accepted his christmas bonuses.

"To be forced not to work on a public holiday is a vilolation of their freedom of religion."
Very good way of putting it, Hippikon!
When I was still a dub my brother asked me this very thing, "Why do youguys take off on Labor Day when you don't believe in it?" I wish he would have said it your way, it might have made me think about it more.
As far as Christmas, I remember my hypocritical MIL having a non-Christmas turkey dinner on December 25th. I think that majorly "stumbled" me because I was sacrificing being with my family whom I loved dearly, making a stand for the "truth" and sitting there with all these witnesses who were a wanna-be-family to me on December 25th just didn't cut it! The whole time I was thinking, "Wonder what my family is doing now."
I'm soooo glad I figured it out that it's the most hypocritical religion ever!
