i've been depressed big time over all the fights, attacks, flame wars, bickering, complaining and what have you that seems to dominate the board these days.. i've just decided that there is no point in my bringing down myself any further and that i don't have anything of value to offer here, especially since it takes as much emotional effort to insulate myself from my friends behaving badly, that i just can't seem to offer much in the way of positive vibes.. i will check back some time (maybe a month or so0 down the road to see if this place has gotten any more mellow and friendly but until then.... hasta la vista and the best of luck to you.

They love to apply double standards. When they (both at congo and org. levels) are shown to be in the wrong they claim "We are only human " When they want your support they say they are "Spirit directed" and you must follow without question.
I could live with the idea that all organisations make mistakes, except that they CLAIM to be different.
If they want us to follow , they must take the responsibility of getting things right
if money was no object for you, you had the space to develop a beautiful landscaped garden, what would you do to design your ideal space, how creative can you be?.

all miracles are surely designed to make a point. ie.that natural laws can be changed on occasion to prove that the miracle worker has God's spirit. It does not really matter whether the action seems trivial to us 3000 years later. It would have impressed his audience and prepared them to listen to what he had to say.
The same could be said of Jesus turning water into wine at Cana, but it made the people take notice of him so perhaps there was a point to it .

I just want to say how encouraged i am to read the balanced and reasoned replies to this thread . sometimes it seems that the very word "abuse" would get a man hung drawn and quartered .
Horrible though it is we must be fair. Although I would like to castrate those who are really proven guilty.
here is the response my friend got from the wtbts.
in her original letter she respectfully stated her questions about 1914 and poured her heart out about her concerns on other doctrinal issues.
she sincerely requested help and wrote about feeling torn by the contradictions she had come accross in her personal study.

It seems they are scared of inadvertandly replying to a journalist or (horrors) an apostate, after all their letter might even end up on the internet.. as if?
But we all take a risk when we post replies to items of a personal nature. We know that the poster MIGHT not be genuine. but we still do it because we believe in the honour of our humankind and are willing to take that risk to help someone, or help ourselves.

as you may or may not know, the bush administration has set up a shadow government in the usa, with its memebers already securely located in underground bunkers and now we are learning that washington dc is being surrounded radiation and gamma ray detectors which would tip off the delta forces on standby that a nuclear weapon had been brought into the area.
the government concedes that they do expect a possible nuclear strike by terrorists.. while it may not come from ben ladin, there are other countries who appear to have made more progress in securing nuclear weapons by either buying them illegally or making their own.
the really bad news is that they also have much more of an incentive now to use them against the usa as our government has launched a war against their countries (i.e.

One expression we were encouraged to use at one time was "Jehovah's Christian Witnessess" I dont know if it is still in vogue.
Salvation hinges on the ressurection of Jesus but worship goes to God , in their teaching.
Scripures such as John 1.18 was the first to come to mind (NEB)

sir cliff richard is one of the singers universally loved by the 40+ generation (certainly here in the uk) ... that is unless that 40+er is one of jehovahs witnesses.. doubtless there are some jws who do enjoy cliffs music, but i have always been surprised by the widespread dislike of him within the jw community.. this is in stark contrast to the widespread love for his former band - the shadows - the presence of one of their cds being a feature in a very high percentage of british jw homes.. reason quoted to me.
when i first came into the truthtm in the early 80s, it was explained to me that cliff had connections with jws (if i remember right - his mother and sister were baptised).. cliff had shown an interest in the truthtm, had a bible study with hank and had been to many meetings.
he had allegedly been spotted at one of our districts conventions at twickenham, walking around in a bright pink suit.
Perhaps its got more to do with the fact that Cliff. is a pompous self righteous purveyor of mindless forgetable pop songs .
