Barbara, my wife and I read this short biography yesterday and we are IN AWE of the wonderful work that you have done. I bet you wished you had run the photocopiers at Bethel out of ink!!
Thank you and Joe so very much from the depths of our heart.

What was the "last drop" which made you to leave JW organization?
by Lehtiveli inthis is a littlebit of quiz but still worth of talking.
so, what was the last thing which made you think that jw's are not "the truth"?
i'm trying to collect things, which are crucial points for jw beliefs so i can write something about all of those things.

I was at the book study and the conductor spoke about the apostate liar that were on a TV program about the pedophile/child abuse in the JW's. He said they were liars and that we dont need to watch those kinds of shows to be able to defend your faith. This comment was supported by the comments of others, until he looked at me and asked me straight: "That's right isn't it?"
Well, I said it isn't right, he has no right to tell people not to watch the show. I said that these people are not liars, they are victims. He then said that it isn't the societies policies that are doing this to them, I had to tell him in front of them all that it is their policies that are hurting these victims!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I then had to leave as I could not in all good conscience sit there and be a part of that. Havne't been back. -

We have attended two engagement parties that were non-JW affairs. We wouldn't have before. We enjoyed them, although we did not know too many people, but you get the opportunity to enhance your "social skills' or even get to develop them.
We also allowed our two children to have some friends over for their own birthdays, mild affairs, but fun.
So we are learning. -

How do you deal with JW's knowing they will shun you?
by JH ini went to the grocery store yesterday, and i saw a jw who was looking at me with a sort of sad face.
i said hello, and he didn't reply.
so why does he stare at me for if he knows he won't reply to me when i say hello?

I think that the way you describe is a good way to go, acknowlege them and move on, otherwise it's just their game. I remember years ago a young guy from another town was DFed for who knows what, and we didnt know. He came upto us and started talking. Other dubs who knew his situation saw this and came over real fast and told us about his status. We were incensed that he had the gall to talk to us!!
Now, well, it would be different. I am happy to talk to anyone regardless of their JW status. The x-dubs are blown away that you would talk to them, and are happy when they know you dont go anymore. They wondered when we would wise up. One guy said I always thought you were smart, but wondered when you would see it!! He was very happy.
Another guy that all the dubs avoid like the plague was in front of me in the supermarket. I walked up to him and said hi. He was stunned. He said "you know, in 8 years you are the first one [jw] to come up and talk to me"!! I said I have news for you, WE dont go any more!! We both just laughed and I said to him, I bet we could talk for hours!
When I see dubs down the street and they are making a point of not seeing me...and it is usually obvious, I love to say hello to them. Why not? I am not DF/DA so they should be happy to talk to me shouldn't they? And wouldnt it get under their skin? Wouldn't they get annoyed about it? Hope so. -

Conversation with friend leads to despair
by under_believer inmy status is "fading but still sort of in.
" i don't believe any of it anymore.. i just had a long conversation with a very old friend of mine who is "weak," as in he doesn't preach, and he doesn't make many of the meetings.
he still believes everything, though... he's just "weak.

Gary, that is the thing that is hard to figure out, why walkaways who are believing are so defensive.
I'd wonder if it is as this friend asserts, why he isn't there all the time. In JW speak, he is as dead as the rest of us, isn't he? Instead of listening and finding an excuse to be slack, the slacker judges the friend who is trying to lead him away from a big pile of crap.
