I didn't know anything about the U.N., Mexico/Malawi, Rand Cam, Beth Sarim, the new ideas about blood factions-heck, I was just wide-eyed and stunned when I first began reading here. It took me only a few weeks to realize that I wasn't the failure, but the WTBS.

Learning surprising things about the jws
by greendawn inafter you left the jws and entered your post wts era what sort of things did you learn about them that you found surprising?
there are some recent jws that haven't even heard of russell or even rutherford let alone of their objectionable conduct especially that of rutherford.
or they don't know anything about malawi and mexico, the ray franz incident and the witchhunt of the early 80's, or the organ transplant ban.

Can you control your dreams?
by ButtLight infor years and years i have been able to wake up in the middle of a dream, and go back to it right where i left off.
if its a good one, that i didnt want to leave, i think about it, fall back asleep, and im back in!
or, like the other night, i was mad at my bf in my dream.

I wish I could, but sadly, no. Never could. My son, on the other hand, tells me just what order his dreams are going to be in. He actually plans his dreams! I just stared at him in amazement.

Did it ever bother you that Watchtower never did charitible works?
by AK - Jeff ini mean, for forty years believing the witness lie it always made me wonder.. judas was the keeper of the money box - and there are statements that indicated that the apostles thought that wasting money that could be used to aid the poor was sinful - so indications are that the earliest christians were doing charitible works.
of course there are many scriptural passages that encourage that activity among believers.
today all the organization ever does is pay lip service to charity.

Oh boy, did it ever. Finally, the last few years while I was still working, I had United Way donations taken out of my paycheck. I felt much better about things.
And it's a great feeling to buy a poppy or forget-me-not from the vets, too. I hated passing them and trying not to make eye contact when they were selling.

Wifey is now a 'churchgoer'!

Wow, good for her!
We are thinking about doing that for our kids, but haven't decided on which church. We are really turned off by organized religion, but I want my kids to have the great memories of youth groups, retreats, etc, that I had when I was a kid. Every time the subject comes up, we decide to wait awhile longer. The wounds are still too raw.

Welcome Lola! I certainly understand your feelings. It does take awhile to get over that "I've been kicked in the stomach" feeling.
You made the right choice.

We just put our first one up last Sunday-the day our JC was meeting. It was a symbolic for us as freedom from the Borg.
It really seemed strange to even contemplate doing it, but once it was up we felt SO good. Between the flag, the No Trespassing sign and the apostate sticker on our mailbox, we have inocculated our house against JW's. (Kind of like wearing garlic and holding a cross against vampires! LOL)

How can COs and DOs Sabotage The Organization and Not Come Under
by frankiespeakin in.
how can cos & dos sabotage the organization and not come under the scrutinay of the service department?.
i'm sure there are many cos & dos that know the gb are liars but may be stuck in the work at the present, and so this thread is devoted to thing you can do to deliberately sabotage the control that the organization has over the friends.. while this threat has great potenial for humour lets see if we can share some ideas that double agents might use effectively.

We would always give a minimum of $50, and also gave to any visiting missionaries and Bethelites because we felt sorry for their lack of wages. We also felt we were doing our part to help in the preaching work since we couldn't be pioneers. We were always feeling guilty for not doing more, so we tried to help the ones that were.
Heck, all that, and all we ever got was an early yearbook every year from some Bethelites. LOL

After four years, still cleaning up the trash.
by TemperateWarrior ini have a question that i'd like to get feedback for:
how does a person get their finances in order after leaving the dubs?
i've left the b'organization with my family intact.

Welcome, Temperate Warrior!
I completely understand where you are coming from in determining if it makes sense financially for your wife to work. We also have 3 children, and even though I had a good job (by luck), I wasn't really bringing home anything after figuring in for 3 kids. So we worked it out so that I could quit and stay home, and the release of stress for both of us is incredible. We watch our finances, and are quite content. However, it took us a couple of years to be able to do that, and alot of planning.
No more pulling the kids out of bed at 5:30 am to take them to their sitter at 6 am so I could be to work at 6:30 am. (Really hated that in Wisconsin winters.) I myself would be up at 4 am. By the time I would pick them up and drive home, it would be after 5 pm. Kids crabby and tired, I'm exhausted and crabby, still with dinner, baths, etc. Ugh! Absolutely no quality time. Throw 2 parents on opposite rotating shifts, and it added up to IMMENSE stress. I completely understand why you and your wife want to do this. It is working for us-everyone is happier.

Covert Field Service tactic
by doinmypart inhere's an idea i thought of for those of us still associated with the jws and going in field service:.
1. write the url to this site, quotes, silentlambs, etc.
on post-it notes (little yellow sticky papers).. 2. put the post-it notes inside the folded portion of a tract, or first page of wt magazine.. 3. leave the tract or magazine at not-at-homes.. in the chance the householder peruses the litter-ature rather than trash it, they will see the note and possibly visit the referenced website.

This might work, but my family would never even open the magazines, just pitched them. They only took them to be polite. They would never had seen your message. But hey, that's just MY family.
