well, my sil and best friend came to this site on my recommendation (jw).

i just wanted her to check it out without judgement as we have always been able to talk about everything.

she basically was disgusted, said it was full of crap and lies and would never look at it again.

Everyone has said so many great things I have very little to add. But I do have one thing. You'll find happiness being yourself. Do that. Be yourself, and don't surround yourself with anyone who won't be happy that you're happy.

Did you know that it is wrong to play Chess?

i remember being at a bookstudy one tuesday night.

i had just recently been reinstated, and i was trying hard to believe the stuff the wbts was teaching, as i went back to be reunited with my family.

(this did not mean i had all the doctrinal beliefs straightened out so that i was an "automatic believer" just because of being reinstated.).

Perhaps your bookstudy conductor had a special place in his heart for chess and that is why you discussed the article in detail. Awake articles were not officially reviewed at bookstudies. But, in 1973 the conductor had much leeway with how much information he would cover in a night so it's possible that your conductor saw this as an opportunity to discuss his pet peeve.

If the discussion was recent, your bookstudy conductor is nuts. Nobody is going to use 30 year old article as a reference for not playing chess. At least not anyone sane.

Plenty of the friends play chess.

As an aside, isn't it funny how the dubs know exactly what places information must be placed in for them to follow it. An Awake can say just about anything and the dubs will no doubt ignore it. The WT can say the same thing and the dubs will march together to follow it. That's kind of like the recent AW comments on holidays and pagan origins. No one seemed to really catch it but us on the forum.

does anyone know if anyone is working on a cd rom for the latter years of the golden age.

i know raines has a cd from 1919-1924, but i dont know about any other.

if not, would any one be interested in establishing a golden age scan trade.

Golden Age scans would be a huge thorn in the WTS side. Imagine when you loved one begins to study with them you spend some $ on this cd which shows gravity is wrong, immunizations are usless, aluminum is from the devil and so on. Yes, the WT scans are good but sometimes it takes too much scriptural knowledge or research for an interested one to realize how screwed up they are. With the Golden Age you can show their crazy right away.

here, someone is aking the question: upon hearing that the imprisoned peter was at the door, why did the disciples say: it is his angel ?

to my reasoning ...if it walks like a duck and quakes like a duck ....it is a duck.

Are there any commentators (I couldn't find one) that support the idea that those in the house thought it was Peter's spirit that was at the door and not just a run of the mill guardian angel?

what would you say to someone who is going to be baptized soon?

i don't think he has a clue as to what it really means, what will be expected of him.

and just how his life will change.

In my experience by the time someone is contemplating baptism they are pretty well "in" the organization. It would be great if he would review both sides of the coin regarding the society but at this point in his spiritual progress I doubt he will. If he's getting baptized he probably feels that he doesn't need to or already has (using the society's literature). I've said this before and I know it's true: the first year or two after baptism is when the dub has the most super-dub or zealous attitude. The new learning phase and the new baptism phase are when most dubs piss of their friends and family because they just can't understand why you don't "get it". Don't alienate him, don't belittle him (not that you do), and try to maintain any sort of trust you can. In time he may, key word here is may, start to see things in a different light like so many here have.

are you able to tell the real from the phonies?

i see some posters that automatically raise suspicions because of how they state things.

others, after reading what they have to say over a period of time, show their true colors.

Hold on there. I may not Listen but I can read. If one is fading then it is necessary to tow the company line until the fade is out. That means that here one can express their views openly. But, with other dubs the fader must conceal their true feelings in order to blend in. That is not hypocrisy; it is lying. Albeit lying with a purpose.

Lying can be fun. Lying can be good. Lying can benefit those you love and who love you.

Was The Govering Body Decieved Into Dividing Up The Organization?

what if the legal advice that the governing body got to divide up into all those diferent organizations was actually a very clever sceem to take way control from the governing body,, and they fell for it hook line and sinker???

anybody who has been in the legal department at bethel, for just a short time must realize the gb are seriously full of shit.

that's why i think either for selfish reasons or just plane disgust,, some individual or perhaps several individuals could easily play on the fears of the governing body to manipulate them to make huge mistakes, like dividing up into all these different organizations.

You guys are freaking me out!

I would love to see major changes take place. Not because I would go back or because my family would leave, but it's exciting just to have things shaken up. The only reason I still read the WT/AW magazines is doto see the current light on scriptural doctrine so I can look dublike to those that see me at the hall. I would love to see some major light come forth about some of the holidays, # of meetings, blood, assemblies - crap just about anything.
