They are definitely a cult because of the amount of control over their followers. They control their thinking. They control what they input into their brains. They control their dress. They control their time. They control those who dare leave by shunning and not allowing normal family relations. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few of the other "controls" too. How can anyone say they are not a cult? Any religion or group that has that much control over its people is a cult. Good god...any group that tells their people to "avoid critical thinking" is a CULT! What else could they be?

"Pioneer " Witnesses to me in McDonald's Parking Lot / I Reverse Witness!

i put the window down and while forcibly handing the watchtower to me just says, " here is the watchtower !

You know it probably won't do a lick of good right now...but as we all know somewhere down the line she may just remember what you said and do some investigating. We know that she won't do this ...until her little world gets jostled around. She may end up in an abusive relationship...may get treated badly by her peers for bogus reasons...it could be anything that she deems unjust and unchristian. All it takes is something to trigger it. THEN she may just remember your sage words of advice to look past the curtain.

I need some friends
by jonie ini have such a difficult time living a double life, i dont hate going to meetings and seeing the friends i just know it is not real and i dont like being there.
but since i can not get my husband (who is also inactive) to just leave for good we go back from time to time.. my older son really hates it all his friends from the hall are either in jail or in a gang it was difficult to keep him in the truth because of seeing so many of his friends doing badly.
i finally allowed him to just have worldly friends and he is fine, in fact some of the jws would ask if their children could come over and spend time with my son and we were not even active.. i know i can never go back to the jws, i realize it is false but i also know that we all need to keep praying to god and i believe that god is jehovah, some people just need to do it in a building and need to belong to a place where people treat them like they are some body.

jonie...sorry you are feeling bad. I felt that way right after getting out. I think it's pretty normal to have a hole where something, no matter how false it was, took that place. Time will help you fill the emptiness. Sign up for some classes and focus on something worhtwhile. The WTBS is a negative influence and everyone involved is pretty negative, preaching death and destruction. It takes a while to get over those feelings and move on. Get your faimily involved in other activities too. You will soon discover that the JW's have it ALL wrong or God is just a big ol' meany and is going to destroy a lot of "worldly" folks with good hearts.
As far as praying to Jehovah...you may wanna do a litle research about that name. The WTBS even admits that Yahwah is more correct...but in reality if the true pronounciation was lost and all we have are a bunch of vowels, then it could be Yehovah....yahewo...Yehoveh...Yaheveh...Let's face it, what ever you call him it could be wrong and could be pissin' him off so isn't it better to call him by a respectful title such as God or Supreme One or like Jesus.."Father" rather than take the chance of making him mad? Put yourself in his place. Wouldn't you rather be called Ms, Miss or Mrs than some mispronounciation of your name? My 2-centz.

1914- What's the big deal if it's the wrong date?
by cognac ini hear it a lot on this board that the 607 date is wrong... i figured that out while i was a jw... never really thought much about it though.
just thought, ok, if it's wrong then everything is moved up about 20 or so years.... and for that matter, why is it such a big deal to the society?
why can't they just fix the date so it's right.

NEW TRACT CAMPAIGN PLANNED....
by sir82 in....for october 20 - november 16.. there is a new tract to be introduced, with the title "do you want to know the truth?".
it is not a "kingdom news" campaign - after the campaign, this tract will join the "regular rotation" of tracts to be used in the field misery.. it is designed to replace the "do you want to know more about the bible" tract - the goal is to use it to start "bible" studies.. the goal is to cover all of the congregation's territory in 4 weeks, similar to other campaigns in the past.
unlike other campaigns, though, the congregations can order as many as they would like - they are not limited to 50 per publisher.

On Saturday... I decided to dump all my literature
by tak init felt good!
i took that huge plastic bin that contained multiple copies of all the books given out by the society, all the old wt and awake's that i had, the year books, etc..... and threw into the city dump.
my boyfriend thought i should maybe bring the literature back to them and i said "hell no.... so they can give it out to more innocent people.. he agreed.

You may have stumbled on to a real money-maker....a sorta CLIFF'S NOTES FOR JW'S. Maybe Stoops would carry them. So you see, you're a JW and you don't have time to keep up with all the latest Wt's and Awakes and phamplets and books and talks and everything...you just order the appropriate corresponding CLIFF'S NOTES for the talk you have to give or the book that just came out...etc. Hell I woulda paid big bucks at one time.
