I don't bother to query the "Brothers" about their doctrine any longer I just get the old run around (not so here) so my question or rather statement is this. The Truth (I feel) is in the bible and well the jw's do use the text to some degree BUT why oh why are they not in "The Way" as the first century christians called their beliefs ? "The Way" being a practice of christian beliefs\values ect . My take on this is that they do have the truth... (minus the wt org) but they don't live "The Way" cuz IF they did they'd be happy and not praying for harmageddon to fall upon them any day. I never understood why the jw's pound home the "fact" that the END is so close, I thought if they have a christian spirit they ought to be living in gods spiritual kingdom on earth right now AND enjoying it...heck I'm a half baked christian and I'm diggin it now and if I should be judged rightous (in the end) I'll be diggin it later. This is why I think they use the expression "The Truth" instead of "The Way". Any insights ?

My mom's also letting a little reality slip through the cracks . A common denominator that I've seen here in "jolting jw's lose" is a personal crisis in ones life. So who knows there may be a hidden blessing in all this. I hope your sib with the problem will soon get better. Good Luck!

Congregation gossip - Why so rampant?
by OUT and about inis is just me, or did every congregation have a big (as in greater than in the non jw world) problem with this?
how have some been affected?

hehe
What fun I just drove my mom and her pal (both jw's) 1000 Kms for a visit with family and boy did I get the dirt on whos doing what to whom ect in thier cong. The more time I spend at their kingdom hall the more I come to realize not just how "worldly" they are but how little love travels around that place. Some scripture states you shall know them by their fruits...well I'm not biting. I'd rather hang here any day...the love here may travel hard and fast but at least it's sincere. I don't know why it's so rampant but I do KNOW it is rampant. Peace

My moms been in the "truth" for 30 years or so and I often point out how the jw's are so isolated and focused on doing gods work and how too much work and no play makes johnny a dull boy (a lotta dull boys @ the kingdom hall) . Well surprizingly enough she agrees and states that balance in life (with gods work always in mind) is the key to making god happy with ones efforts. I'm quite sure shes deviating from wt org's dogma but hey I think she's closer to the truth than she may know. (:
your a blessing to your family and credit to your spirituality

Welcome
If I did't find various opinions from atheism to wiccians\anger to compassion I may just believe the "brothers" that these "apostate" web sites are the spawn of satan. Since coming here and reading the posts I've been referencing my bible a lot more and exercising my mind\spirit as well. At the kingdom hall nothing is up for discussion...here every thing is...what a happy and challenging choice to have.
hope to hear more of your insight

What's The Best Way To Jolt A Witness' Thinking???
by minimus in.
anything that you think effectively gets a jw to re-think their position on things or their beliefs, in general?
?

I'm new here and a virgin apostate wannabe as well but I can't help but value and appreciate the shear numbers of "jolted jw's present. Maybe the question ought to be rephrased to "what's the best way YOU where jolted into ' thinking' ??? " . Like take a poll or something. Wow would that be the list of the new year.
Oh btw i'm taking my mom down to Georgetown Ontario Canada (Halton Hills) tomorrow to visit with one of my sisters for a couple days and thought for some potential apostate fun I would take a tour of the Canadian bethal HQ's. Anything there worthy of taking note of ?

My sisters been a jw for 35-40 years or so and her hubby about the same (he was an elder but got demoted to chief bottle washer) anyway I was grilling them on the whole faithfull and discreet slave issue (to me) and strangly enough she answered her own question to me which was a scriptural quote, something to the effect that by their fruit shall you know...well I said the congregation I've been going to for 6 months strikes me as a group of ones that have a gun pointed at the back of their heads...check out their uninspired answers in the wt study or worse yet their singing (low blow I know) plus what i've heard exchanged amongst my mom's service pals led me to believe, lunch and a nice chat time was the real object of their service "work".Well after laying this on them my sis replied that "well not all congregations are the same one she says is quite zealous another material and yet another ..." I said gee sis thats what I'm getting at I don't see a whole lotta love going down plus I thought you guys (jw's) were supposed to be uniform\consistant or some such bs and that i felt this applies to the faithfull disceet slave as well...lacking uniform\consistant loving spirit. Well thats my xmas contribution to jolting ones back to freedom of religous thought.
Question authority!

ending a "bible" study concerns
by blueztunez infirst off i'd like to say what a pleasure it is to read the threads here and to say as well that it's quite refreshing to see the milk of human kindnes shared so freely here.. i just moved back east and have been staying with my 82 year old mom who's been a jw for 35 years (she's happy as a clam).
knowing she'd appreicate the company going to the sunday meetings plus the 2 hour "school" i thought i could also form my own opinion on their "truth" ...so i did't research the "apostate web sites" till i had formed my own opinion...well 6 months (read) 125 hours at the kingdom hall later and my heart tells me that this "truth" is not for me.. the problem:.
i'd like to quit the "bible" study that sucks up 1 1\2 hours each week...but i'm wondering if "the gang" is going to put any pressure on my dear old mom (again she's 82 years old) to get me to resume my bible study ?

Thanks one and all for your advice\insights . If I could find the kind of christian fellowship I find here at the kindom hall I'd join in a flash inspite of my feelings on the wt org hehe. Heck an hour and a halfs not that big a deal to burn up really but up till a couple weeks ago I thought that they may have something to offer that I could't get from my solo bible study. From day go they knew I had the truth it just needed to be modified to suit them and I thought gee maybe they do know\see something I don't but now I'm quite sure thats not the case.
Bluesbro good point about keeping quiet on the apostate thing, my "elder" study conductors face went pretty strange when I asked him__if the apostate web sites are indeed evil people looking to undermind whoever, was it not paul\saul who said ...stand up to satan and he will flee you or something to that effect? He answered well yes BUT satan is a master at deception blah blah blah. Geez even before I became a christian I could certainly tell the difference between good and evil.
Been There yer right about the shunning thing I've felt that since the "love bomb" dust settled they looked at me like I had something contagious.
Mavrick funny you mentioned to do lists ect cuz I'm thinking of using the 4 hours a week I spend at the kindom hall studing my bible (with earplugs snugly in place)...surly they won't find fault with that. I am after all driving my mom to and from the K Hall .
AK-Jeff one of the problems I face with these ones is that I've never prepared for a study and never answer from the "bible" study book I always answer in my own words and heres the crunch 8 times out of ten I agree with them...what i don't agree with is the wt orgs control over everone but of course that has'nt come up in the study yet.
Ko38 ultimatly I'm leaning in your direction... keep my apostate (proud and true) mouth shut and go throught the motions. Haha a few weeks ago I had what I felt was a pretty big bone of contention with thier beliefs and said to my book study dude "gee I'd hate to make you stumble with what I got to say" He laughed and said that was'nt likely, btw the CO was sitting in on the "bible" study. I think if I had the freedom to truely speak my mind these ones would need knee pads to prevent scabs from forming on their knees from stumbling (kidding)
Skully and others that suggested a "talk" with these ones ...well I pray it won't come to that cuz in order to follow through I'd have to set my new found christian principles aside for "a moment" to show that I mean buisness.
In conclusion: these ones KNOW that I live christian principles and don't just quote scriptures trying to impress folk and i feel this (I"m) is kinda a special case for them because my biblical beliefs are almost one in the same with theres, I just don't buy the whole CONTROL isues of the wt org.
Well again I'd like to thank everyone...also just a thought, from what I've read here and at other apostate web sites, is that where do you go as a christian once you leave the wt org ? seems to me your already there (: As a solo christian thats been one of my biggest problems for the last couple years...where do you find like minded christians to have fellowship\disscusion with ? I've found more fellowship\disscusion here in 3 days than I have at the kingdom hall in 6 months.
btw after explaining the term "love bombing" to my mom she totally agreed...(WOW) Not that I witness to convert anyone (I witness to share what I've got, with my christian principles\values\faith) I think maybe she'll see the light through example. After all if her junkie alcoholic son can embrace such similar beliefs through a solo bible study hey maybe the wt org is not needed to be acceptable in Gods eyes.
Well my internet connection is getting axed on Jan 1-05 (coincidence?) haha but I will be able to keep up to speed here via public librarys internet access so take care in the meantime . Blueztunez

Greetings
First off I'd like to say what a pleasure it is to read the threads here and to say as well that it's quite refreshing to see the milk of human kindnes shared so freely here.
I just moved back east and have been staying with my 82 year old mom who's been a jw for 35 years (she's happy as a clam). Knowing she'd appreicate the company going to the sunday meetings plus the 2 hour "school" I thought I could also form my own opinion on their "truth" ...so I did't research the "apostate web sites" till I had formed my own opinion...well 6 months (read) 125 hours at the kingdom hall later and my heart tells me that this "truth" is not for me.
The problem:
I'd like to quit the "bible" study that sucks up 1 1\2 hours each week...BUT I'm wondering if "the gang" is going to put any pressure on my dear old mom (again she's 82 years old) to get me to resume my bible study ? She really dos'nt need any more grief than she already has. If so I guess I'll just buck up and suffer through the hour and a half...my mom's worth it (:
NB: I still plan on escorting her to the sunday meetings and the "school".
By the by: I had fun defending the "apostate web sites" to the two elders that were conducting my "bible" study (: .
Well thanks for reading my plea for insight and God bless
