recently the awake 2005 july 22 on page 4 states about the december 26 2004 tsunami; .
exactly one year later, a magnitude 9.0 quake occurred just off the western coast of northern sumatra, indonesia, spawning by far the deadliest tsunami in recorded history.
the killer waves claimed over 200,000 lives and left many more injured, homeless, or both.
Their going to play on any disaster and any numbers. We have to remember that the earths population is much more dence then in the 18th century or the 16th century. More population per square mile adds up to more deaths obviously but still in my mind is non sequential.
The real underlying fact to me is, How much brotherly love and aid did the WTBTS extend to the tsunamis relief fund? I didn't see the Society running to help all these victims with food/medical supplies or money. Rather they just use the crisis in furthering their beliefs on their followers. They never followed the Christ like example of helping ones in need who are not your brothers, of what benefit is their to helping ones of your own? Does not the world also do this? They failed to set the example in motion that they love to preach non-stop as their identifying mark of true christianity. This too me is the more important factor then any numerical number. Lives were involved and the Watchtower failed to even extend a helping hand to the "worldly tm " people who were affected. Thus failing Christs words, "Lord when did we comfort you or give you something to eat? ''The fact that you gave to the least one of these my brothers, you gave to me.' "

My wife when she was concieved by her mother was almost aborted. It was due to the fact that her mother was in her 30's and getting up in years for child bearing. The doctors tried to talk her into an abortion and so did her husband. They kept stressing possible problems in the birth and after, which never happened. She was born fully normal. The few good things I have to say about the religion is it did prevent this from happening as she would not go through with it due to her beliefs. Myself my mother was single and going to university, not a JW, so it could have been a great possibility in my case too, so im happy im alive and not aborted.
I can understand the other side though especially when the mothers health is at stake. In that instance I think it should be up to the individual but as for getting an abortian due to carelessness or not using preventitive measures, I dont agree with it. One can always give the child up for adoption. I also am horrified by the methods used to abort babys, once the baby reaches the latter stages of development, basically a full grown baby even upto nine months, they will take out the baby and leave it in a chamber to where it will starve and scream. This is bloody inhumane and if they are going to abort a baby that late in pregnancy they should at least change the policies so that the child may be put under or some more humane way of deceasing the child rather then starvation. Earlier stages they use other means, some extract the fetus through a machine, kinda like a vaccum with teeth, and also sometimes a chemical that burns the fetus. Correct me if im wrong but my wife is a nurse and has witnessed some of these horrors.
Its not that im for or against thats upto the individual but we need to develop more humane ways of performing abortions when abortion is necessary. We even treat animals better by putting them down through a chemical injection.

Let us not forget Randy Rhodes, I havn't heard anyone that could belt out scales or a solo like him. As for acoustic players I was blown away by Tim Reynolds, he is absolutely amazing on an acoustic, also I seen Dave Matthews live on several occasions and his playing really inspired me. Dave Matthews fools around with a lot of fifths and minors kinda like the old "Police" stuff, Its really catchy. I also like John Mayer hes got some nice sounding rythyms that he puts out on his acoustic.

i was just wondering if anyone out there had similar struggles after being disfellowshipped?
.
all my life i was a good christian person, then after getting df'd i entertained the idea to do all manner of formerly forbidden activities, since everyone thought i was going to the devil anyway.
I am not DF'd but have been out for 5 years + now. I did do some but not too crazy because I am a little older so maybe I got a little wiser. lol I doubt it though. No I just took it one day at a time and in a little while it just became normal life like everyone elses, you get to learn your limits and you realize that you are the one responsible for your actions. Kinda like you reap what you sow, but at least you are in full control of what you choose to do or not do. I just enjoyed the freedoms of everday people such as birthdays, christmas, a ciggarette if i wanted, went to a music concert in washington, just ordinary everyday fun.

it appears that prior to c. 1952 the watchtower was against all medical treatment.
it was then they announced that medical treatment would be a matter of conscience -- with the exception of the use of blood.
is that a fair conclusion?.
this is a new book released this year.
did this get posted before and i missed it?
if not, take a look, especially the reviews... lmao
i came across this today and thought it was interesting.
i'm new here to the board and it might be something you guys already know about but if your interested here is the link.

It doesn't matter whether they still hold Russells teachings, their current doctrine is based off of an evolvement of Russellic doctrines. They still hold tight to the 1914 Christs invisible presence which is one of Russells prevalent interpretations. I would even say that the JW not only have decended from Russel but also greatly from the teachings of the Adventist's, in which Russell was at one time an active member. Time doctrines of the JW's were a result of enhancing upon Adventists chronology.
Myself I would view the JW's beginning as being a sect following the teachings and interpretations of a Man, clearly that man at first was Russell.

i borrowed a copy of "jehovah's witnesses; portrait of a contemporary religious movement" from the library and my never-wuz-a-dubbie boyfriend saw it.
he looked a little pissed off and said to me "you've wasted 40+ years of your life with this stuff, i don't see why you have to waste even more time with this; but if you do, it's your choice.
i guess you have to have been there.
Spending time inside the wt leaves a lot of the same scars as booze drug addiction. People who haven't experienced it can't understand that.
Couldn't have said it better so I qouted it. It is hard for others who have not had aquantance with a high pressure control group to understand what it is like to experience and move on from such groups. I myself have faced ridicule for posting here and wasting my time with discussing my JW past, they just don't understand that its part of a process of letting go and healing from your past. As for me this site has been invaluable as I have been able to recover and remove the JW logic fully from my mind. I now possese a freedom I never imagined possible. My attempt now is to help others in reaching this same goal, thus returning the favor I was granted.
