hi simon,.
in astra's thread the questio was posed as to whether the internet is making a difference.. my question to you is, "how quickly are the ranks of registered posters growing on this site?
my bookmark brings me right into the main forum, so i dont usually check the numbers.
Simon, are you there?
go to the hall and face the music or stay home and watch t.v this thought went through my head when an elder asked a sister if her husband was to embarrased to sit in the hall when they made the announcement what do you think?
Reagan, isnt that so disgusting? Like you said, all of a sudden you EXIST again!!! Shunning is so contrary to our inborn human nature to associate with others. By JW "declarations", one can be seen as if dead, then another "declaration" brings us back to life.
SICKENING!!!

From numerous posts, we see persons who state that they have been lurking for awhile before they decide to register.
Can you give us some data on this? I thnk that info in it self can shed light on the influence of the internet on JW's.

p.s.Is there a way you can add a "Visitor" counter?
hi, i have been following some of the discussions about the internet and jw.
some people think that it seems to make a big difference, that it will seriously reduce wts ranks because people get access to all sorts of information and because they can get in contact with people who maybe have the same doubts and thoughts as themselves.. but how big a difference do you think that the net is making?
how many people do you think have withdrawns from jw because of infomation or contact achieved over the net?.
I agree with Simon-the WTS wouldnt be issuing so many warnings about the Net if they didnt feel threatened.

In my last congregation, a very good elder friend of mine was of the opinion that a person should be at the KH when they were announced as DF'd or reproved. I followed his suggestion when I was DF'd.
He also stated that I was free to speak and associate up until the actual announcement was made.

let's discuss solutions for a second regarding the pedophile issues.. how do you feel the society should handle things?.
should the society be entitled to 'ecclesiatic privilege' as are other religions?.
should such a loophole be allowed when it involves protecting children?.
1.
Should the Society be entitled to 'ecclesiatic privilege' as are other religions?
What purpose does such privelege serve for an organization which claims to be morally superior to all others? JDubs are routinely instructed to "report" any and all knowledge of "sin" to elders. Why should the hierarchy be any different when it comes to pedophilia and the secular authorities?
2.
Should such a loophole be allowed when it involves protecting children?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. If there is convincing evidence of such a crime, the family involved should be vigorously encouraged to pursue legal remedies. The current policy of "lets handle this in-house" is NOT working.
3.
How should the Society respond locally with a convicted pedophile. Should they ever be allowed back in the congregation? If yes to what level?
If a convicted pedophile is on public record and must register wilth local authorities, the congregation members should be discreetly made aware of their presence, as well as precautions for protecting their children.
I dont think convicted pedophiles should be allowed to be elders or any other appointed position where they are able to be influential in childrens lives. I say this because of the high recedevism(<~~~ possibility of repeat offenses-is that the right word?) rate among pedophiles.
4.
How should local elders handle reports of alleged molestation? One child makes an accusation, what should they do? At what point should they notify authorities? At what point do they notify the congregation?

here i was in happy-no one is really bothering me too much-lala land, until yesterday when i had to go and open my mouth.
a pioneer sister from our hall emailed me to inquire what was preventing me from attending the meetings, and asked what was holding me back from going.
(this is about the 5th or 6th email asking this question) welllllll, i guess i just reached a point where i couldn't pretend anymore.
hi BW,
You excellently summed up your conclusions based on the FACTS-facts about the WTS history of false predictions, and facts about what Christ taught.
The journey has begun!!!
