Why Is It That Americans Here Never.....
by Englishman inslag off us brits?.
i read all these posts (mainly by a couple of cuddly norwegians) about how the us needs to get it's act together, then there's a flurry of ripostes, the occasional nasty dig, a few generalisations and then the whole thing peters out until some bright spark feels the urge to start off the mischief once again.. well, im sick and tired of belonging to a perfect race and living in a perfect country.
the uk obviously has the best economy, the best soccer teams, the best monarchy, the best teeth, the best cuisine, the best weather, the best tv, the best armed forces, the best penal system, the best paranoids,.

I certainly wouldn't disagree that England has been the best in many things, and is no doubt still the best in many things. Fortunately for us, the English brought all of that good over here, and we (US) improved on them.

Sorry to be so slow about sending the directions and address of the reunion on March 2nd. Fred has been in the hospital 2 times in 3 weeks with a over reaction to medication. It has been very bad, we thought he was having a stroke the first time. But we now know which med it is! PTL
We have been home from this last one only a few days, so in 1-2 days I will send you the info you can forward to others.
Please have them understand that this is a reunion for "re getting to know each other" fellowship Indiana and Ohio group and others. It is not a regular support group meeting. There will not be the formal talk of doctrine etc. but there will be sharing of testamony of how the Lord is working in our lives since we last met. worship time and eating! Can't wait to see everyone. Others are welcome, but didn't want misunderstanding of the purpose of this date.
When I send the directions (I have been waiting for Fred to feel better to do the directions, I would get everyone lost, lol)Bye for now, I will write tomorrow or next.
Love,

Hi Dutchy,
I remember when one of my daughters was a teen ager, late teens. The styles at that time were mini-skirts and micromini- skirts, then maxi-skirts and dresses started. My daughter really liked fashions so she wore a maxi-dress to the meeting. It seems hard to believe but the elders were upset with her for wearing that. They are nuts!

Military Spending; Corruption or Incompetance?
by Abaddon inenron was small beer; worry about the pentagon!.

I believe the primary role of the US government is the defense of this country and it's citizens. Not the rebuilding of Afghanistan, or providing anything for the world.
I suspect a big part of the missing millions/billions goes into the secret projects, such as the stealth planes, those unmanned planes flying over Afghanistan, etc.
I am sure there is also much waste and mismanagement. The more money any agency has, the less they will worry about a few thousand dollars misplaced here or there.

JW`s on this site
by Beans ini often wonder if jw`s on these sites consider them "apostate" especially with regards to many topics?
do you ignore topics that could possibly test your faith?
how do you not wonder about your religion with all the information that is available to you now that proves this sekt invalid?

Hi Violetanai,
You said:
I admire someone who is willing to admit they were wrong. Takes great courage, especially if the whole world is watching every move they make and just waiting for them to screw up. Shows humility.
I was told that story my whole life, that the world was watching everything that we, JWs, did. I have found since I left the WT and have visited many churches and lived in the "world" that overall people just ignore JWs. Many think they are just a strange bunch and don't take them very seriously.Borgfree

America bashing, love and pride.
by Norm init is indeed strange, yet understandable to observe the "kneejerk" reactions you get when you point out possible .
flaw's with the mighty us of a, "god's own country".
even from people who should have learned not to have that .

I had promised myself that I would not post on this topic, but I cannot seem to stop myself. Here is my 2 cents.
I think there is another reason why some Americans show pride in being a citizen of this country, or being male, or white, etc. I think I fit into that category.
A mother who did not show prejudice raised me from birth and taught her children to show no prejudice. We were taught to consider ourselves less than others (I don’t remember the scripture reference) There were some things that happened in my teens that started changing my feelings toward some people. I will not go into the details because I believe some on this forum would immediately dispute what is in fact truth and more anger would be caused.
What I have seen over the past several decades is a growing animosity towards “Americans” but when you analyze what that means, it comes down to this. Women are given a pass because of course they are gentle people and do not start wars etc. American Indians are given a pass because “Americans”(?) have victimized them, black people are given a pass because they were victimized and made slaves, homosexuals are given a pass because they are victims and are not violent people.
You can go on and on until you arrive at just exactly who are the “Americans” that are seen as the bad people. White, straight, Christian men.
I believe there are ulterior motives in all this. I have seen white men in power kissing the rear ends of all sorts of people for years now and all that is accomplished is more blame and accusations heaped onto white men.
The more “Americans” give, the more is demanded from them. I am frankly tired of the abuse heaped upon me and other “Americans”
I have mostly arrived at this conclusion, and I think many others have also, I will do the best I can, I will make decisions I think are best for me, my children, and progeny, I will try my best to not do harm to other people. But if I, or we, are attacked I will fight back with everything I have to fight back with.
I think that people in other countries can disagree with us all they want, but when the chips are down, they will be our friends, or our enemies. No neutrals.
And, I agree with the old saying, “the best defense is a good offense”
"A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents, but rather because its opponents die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it." Max Planck
