Sorry to jump the thread Classicist, but what is ALTA please?
I got it wrong, ATLA, not ALTA. It stands for American Theological Libraries Association.
i think ~150 a.d. is early enough for debunking any wt position: .
"and this food is called among us eukaristia [the eucharist], of which no one is allowed to partake but the man who believes that the things which we teach are true, and who has been washed with the washing that is for the remission of sins, and unto regeneration, and who is so living as christ has enjoined.
for not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as jesus christ our saviour, having been made flesh by the word of god, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise have we been taught that the food which is blessed by the prayer of his word, and from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished, is the flesh and blood of that jesus who was made flesh.

bishop shelby spong is of well repute in liberal theological circles.
I suggest the following articles:
Warfare in the Old Testament: An Argument for Peacemaking in the New Millenium
Source: Direction 27 no 2 Fall 1998 p. 177-188
by Lynn Jost
War and Peace in the Hebrew Bible
Source: Interpretation 38 O 1984 p. 341-362
by Paul D. Hanson
I wouldn't read Spong personally, mainly because he, and most other Episcopalians, have severe issues with reasoning.

The Didache is said to be one of the earliest non canonical christian writings. Like PeacefulPete mentioned, it doesn't give the traditional view of the eucharist.
That's assuming that the 2 are contradictory. Even the modern Catholic Mass calls it bread, especially in the Offertory:
"Benedictus es, Domine, Deus universi,
quia de tua largitate accepimus panem,
quem tibi offerimus, fructum terrae et operis manuum hominum
ex quo nobis fiet panis vitae."
"You are blessed, Lord, God of the universe,
through your goodness, we offer bread
which we offer to you, the fruit of the earth and the work of the hands of men
out which it will become for us the bread of life."
Here is the explanation of the Catechism of the Council of Trent:
Why The Eucharist Is Called Bread After Consecration
Here pastors should observe that we should not at all be surprised, if, even after consecration, the Eucharist is sometimes called bread. It is so called, first because it retains the appearance of bread, and secondly because it keeps the natural quality of bread, which is to support and nourish the body.
Moreover, such phraseology is in perfect accordance with the usage of the Holy Scriptures, which call things by what they appear to be, as may be seen from the words of Genesis which say that Abraham saw three men, when in reality he saw three Angels. In like manner the two Angels who appeared to the Apostles after the Ascension of Christ the Lord into heaven, are called not Angels, but men.
To say that the Didache does not include the "traditional view of the eucharist" is a bit of a false exegesis given that it doesn't say much at all, doctrinally, about the Eucharist, or "Thanksgiving meal." What we see in the Didache is a liturgical prayer and practical instructions about Christian liturgical practices (in it's earliest form). If we supplement the record of the Didache along with the contemporary views of the Fathers from that period, we see belief among the orthodox, that the Eucharist is indeed the flesh of Christ.
And I have seen no scholarly works saying that the Eucharistic theology was invented by St. Paul and the Eucharist narrative being inserted into the Gospel. If you can refer me to an article in a journal (I have access to the ALTA Religious Database), I would be more than happy to read it.

don't you just hate them ?.
i mean the ones that think they are too good to serve you (or you are not good enough to deal with).. as i posted previously, my last contract ended a few weeks ago and i got another that will involve a bit more travel than normal so am looking to get a better car to eat up the mileage and provide a bit more safety.
contract hire just to get me to and from work safely and efficiently.
My last experience - I was stupid enough to give the salesman my driver's license... which he held "hostage" for 45 minutes trying to push the sale. I finally got up, dialed my cellphone and asked for the local police department.... it wasn't until I was speaking with the cops, and asked them to send a car over because the dealership had stolen my license that the salesman finally gave it back. What a bunch of jerks....
They really do that? If that were me, I would say, "Give me my license." And if he didn't, well, I'd make the dealer look like this: ". Just give 'em a fair warning, and then when they sue you you could say once you demanded they give your license back and they didn't, they, from that point, became a robber and you needed to protect your property.

im really interested in starting to jog or run.. what would be a good speed to start and how far would be a good goal?.
i know power walking is about 6k an hour, for 30 to 40 minutes but what about running??
Ironically, I can't run very much because in Gr. 9 I was running outside and tripped and really hurt my knee (well, there was a lot of blood, but not bone damage, but it still hurts when running for a while). Which is why I prefer cycling.
do you believe that vivisection (animal experimentation) that usually involves causing disease or injury to animals for the sake of scientific research is an unethical practice that should be banned?
Well, lions like to eat their meat fresh, I guess we should ban that and force them to anethesitize the prey first. Though, I'd hate to be the cop who enforces that!
On to the subject at hand, we're predators: our methods have just been more sophisticated.

First get very good shoes. Then for thirty minutes a day, walk for 5 minutes then run for 30sec-1min, then walk for 5 mins, then run, etc.
i see all kinds of settlements in the news re catholic priest and their behavior.
the diocese has to cough up millions.. how about the witney's?
has the society every had to cough up a dime yet?
I believe it's how they organize everything.
I heard today that the Salvation Army can treat it's members like slaves b/c they claim to have a "spiritual relationship" to an organization instead of an employed one whereas priests are paid a salary by the diocese (though, priests are considered "self-employed" by the IRS for some reason).
For a stupid North American: what does Crazy Frog sound like?
