Oh, yes--I can think of many times! I remember a well-known elder who lied to an elderly sister because he did not want to accept her invitation to come over to her home! He and his wife spent the afternoon with another witness family that they preferred!
Same elder says that he hates listening to peoples problems and never liked being an elder! He's in his 70's!
I remember a sister who used her daughter in a lie to try to get her own way with a situation!

in the 1990's there were a lot of things that had the saying "no fear" on it and one of the local elders figured out that this meant we live life and do things without fear.
so that basically we could try things and take chances, without the normal fear we associate with things in life.
well in a special needs talk they decided that "no fear" t shirts should not be worn by good witnesses and they asked that we not wear them to witness gatherings, or even in life.

i have been in the same circuit since i was 2. that means that most of the 1000 or so in the circuit know me to some extent.. in my "later" days as a witness i kept a very limited close circle of friends.
but i'm still fairly well known.
not "popular" but recognizable.. my mother has recieved a lot of gifts recently (candles, a blanket, cards, candy) and tons of phone calls.
I'm confused as to why people are giving gifts to your mom--seems like a strange thing to do. Or is it as if you have died?

One of my favorite memories is of my son waving at me during the ultrasound! I know he wasn't really waving--but that's what I like to think!

i'd say out of 10 elders, the average "sharp" ones are 2 or 3.
They play dumb--easy way to get out of situations that they really don't want to take care of!

i'm not talking about going back 200 years now, what i mean is if you could go back to when you were younger, how far back would you go, and re live that period of time up to today, maybe in order to fix something that still bothers you today, or just for the joy of living it again.. if i could go back in time, i'd like to be 17 or 18 years old old again, go back to college, follow a different course, meet plenty of young poeple, party in the bars once more, and re live the joy of having young parents and having a full life in front of me.. how about you, how far back would you go?
I'm breaking the rule--I would go back to 1942 and figure out a way to take my mom away from my abusive grandmother. My mom did not get to be a kid--I would give that back to her!
