so i'm having dinner in a bar here in olympia.
someone said something about cults.
then somebody else mentioned jehovah's witnesses.. to my right, the woman's ex-inlaws were all dubs.
A couple years back my sister 'escaped' from the Seventh Day Adventists. She had a tee-shirt printed up that said: "I survived the religious wars!"
LOL

it's interesting to speculate about the fact that legal authority may have been removed from the governing body.
with the intent of protecting them from appearing in court.
when they announced that the organization was to be led.
One well paced defector could bring the whole sorry edifice crashing down
If the WTBTS does implode, the poor r&f will find some way to rally around key doctrinal issues and move on. They'll find some way to shrug it off as 'Jehovah cleansing his house' or some nonsense along those lines.
So many people have given their lives and their children's futures to this 'faith' that to just give it up would be way too painful. Rough guess is that even if the WTBTS completely ceased to exist, I wouldn't be surprised if about half of the 'faithful' found some way to regroup.

the f&d slave doctrine is what gives the wt it's control.
(my comments in blue)
it-1 p. 805 faithful and discreet slave ***
" Heavy research is not necessary, the watchtower has done it all for you. The most beneficial study you can make is to read the Watchtower and Awake magazines or any new book by the organization"
This just in from the Faithfull and Discreet Slave, God's only mouthpiece on earth!
Danger! Do not think for yourselves. Free Will is a false doctrine and has infiltrated the organization through apostate spies. Free Will is a myth. Free will is apostate lies! Jehovah does not permit free will!
Hey! Put that curtain down! Pay no attention to the little man behind the curtain? Study, service, blind obedience?yada?yada?yada?

wanted to know what anyone here thinks or has studied on enoch and him being "transferred so as not to see death" and whether or not anyone believes john the baptist might have been him reincarnated or sent back in.
also if he was the only one in the bible not to see death.
I was always curious about Moses death. The bible states that his eyes had not dimmed and his health was not diminished, but that he died at the hand of Jehovah. Why would the bible state that Enoch was 'transferred', but Moses 'died' when they were both smitten by God?
Seems like splitting hairs to me, and the only thing that I could ever come up with was that Moses body was buried and saw decay whereas Enoch?s departure left no body. Something along the lines of a Star Trek moment, I suppose. "Scotty, beam me..." well never mind...
So is the bible here saying that Enoch did not see death because his body did not rot?
More legalism...

i bet this is all old hat to you regulars on the board, but occassionally when i look for something, i find more than i expect.
was mulling over the 1914 thing (607 etc) and discovered :-.
i thought this was a hoax, then clicked on the link to ''thy kingdom come'' - so now what to believe?
Has anyone here ever heard of Dr. Gene Scott? He is another theologian who has pointed to the Great Pyramid as having 'fortune telling' abilities.
I tried to listen to his ideas, but he goes around in circles so much that he?s hard to follow. He also has an almost cult like following like Russell did.
What is it about those Pyramids that have had mankind so fascinated with them for millennia?

i saw this on another thread that there are rumours of a new songbook announced at the dc.
i hope they get rid of all those "heav'ns", "giv'n", "tho", "e'en", "vivacious", "efficacious" lyrics.
with thise lyrics you can party like it's 1899.. also, please get rid of that song that sounds like the warner bros. bugs bunny song.
It lacks.... DIGNITY and CLASS
I remember my parents complaining about this when the jw songbook first came out. I guess they used to sing some of the beautiful hymns out of the churches of the world before they adopted the official jw song list.
Mom hated the new songs. She had a beautiful operatic voice, and all she could sing at the hall were TV commercial tunes.

recently my father and i have been arguing over scriptual interpretation getting nowhere so i wrote him this email to see what his reaction would be...check it out!!.
here is my email to him...maybe we should take a break from these conversations on.
interpretation of scripture.
I'm glad that you have the hope of getting your family back. It's not going to be easy to stomach the kind of humiliation they are about to put you through, especially since you know that it is unscriptural.
Your dad sounds like he wants you back, and he's willing to correspond with you. That's great! Be careful, and best wishes with this.

the archie's in 1969 "sugar sugar"?
for me it was all about being a kid, summertime, ice cream and the a & w drive in for a hot dog & root beer.
i hear it on the drive home yesterday and turned it way up.
Watching my big sister put on her makeup in the mirror - fascinating for a 7-year-old?
Playing in the sun by the Russian River in our backyard?
The Popsicles that always seemed to melt faster than I could eat them in the hot summer sun...
Dunking my 'rotten' little brother in the doughboy pool, then getting called a blockhead by said brat...
The ?love? of my family?
Ah, the memories...
