Will humanity EVER outgrow God?
by nicolaou infirstly let me say that i am not trying to offend believers - i was one for most of my life.
nor is this a discussion about whether god/religion is a 'good' or 'bad' thing, that argument will rage forever.
what i'm asking is really a simple question;.

Nicolaou and Terry, I agree with both of you!
God is imho an illusion that is used as a safety net as you beautifully explained it, Terry. To me it is a question of personal growth to become aware of what's laying underneath. To discover - and accept - the unspoken makes us grow. No doubt that road needs courage. And it also needs an open heart to be able to adopt a new concept. But a lot of people don't want to explore in that direction. Some are scared to hell of the subject depending on their belief system, others are just skin deep.
Anyway I really can't ever see the majority of mankind to be on a certain spiritual stage at some time as each of us is learning in his own pace.

Do any small creatures frighten & freak you out?
by Rod P inhere's the dirty dozen: .
1) ants- imagine being buried in a sandpile up to your neck with sand.
along come a bunch of ants from an ant colony, and they crawl all over your head, in and out of your nose, your mouth, your ears, your eyes, and all thru your hair.

Jesus Christ denied Driver License
by Amazing1914 inthat's right, a man named jesus christ was denied a driver license by the state of west virginia because they do not like his name.. this reminds me that i knew an engineer named jesus (jay) christ.
he would sign test reports as j. christ.
we used to smile because somehow it was hard to question a report signed by j. christ.

Poor Jesus! He was tortured and died young, wasn't dating (at least not confirmed) and now we find he wasn't even allowed to drive. What a poor guy! No wonder he buzzed off to heaven again. I woud've, too, if I was him.

I don't need "faith" anymore. I'm looking inside my heart. This doesn't mean I know everything yet but that's ok. I don't need to as it would simply overwhelm me. I am learning in my own pace. I just know where to look for answers whenever I have questions. They are all there waiting for me. I am learning in my own pace. No god, no religion, no book needed anymore. I'm doing the same thing all founders of religions have done (Buddha sat under a tree for seven years, Jesus went into the desert, etc.). This guys weren't looking for answers outside themselves. They were looking inside themselves. They were successful as we know. And so am I. Because I'm no other than them. We are all humans.

Did you believe there would ever really be justice or real judgment?
by LongHairGal ini know one of the reasons some people got involved with the dubs was because they expected to see perfect justice in the new system.
the problem i had with this was in order for there to be perfect judgment/justice there would have to be a resurrection and god would have to pay back every person who ever lived tit for tat for every conceivable thing ever done!
this would make him the most petty god around.

I have to admit that the vision of a perfect world and an accordingly perfect justice ist quite enticing. To be able to fix everything "properly" sounds fabulous. But it's irrational. We don't (and imho will never) live in a perfect world and therefore don't have perfect justice. This is another one of cult teachings that paint the world black and white not allowing any grey shadows. Real life isn't fair. It's not either right or wrong. Instead life offers many options. I struggle with this every now and then. A part of me wants perfect justice, too. But the rational part of me tells me I won't get it. I have to live with the irregularities. This seems to be sad but it also offers the freedom to be relative. Because in a perfect world with perfect justice you would have to be perfect, too. Otherwise you wouldn't fit in. And I don't want to be perfect because that's boring.

How Do YOU Feel Knowing That YOU Were In A Cult?
by minimus infor years, i refused to think of the witnesses as a "cult".
too harsh and restrictive of a word for me......but there is no denying that we were all in a mind controlling cult.
are you embarrassed or uncomfortable knowing that you belonged to a cult just like the moonies and the branch davidians are/werw a cult?

For a while I felt like being in some sort of twilight zone. I didn't belong to JW anymore but I also didn't belong elswhere. I guess that's when you know you've been in a cult. At least I knew for sure.
After being sad and angry for a long time I finally became more relaxed and learned to be thankful für the experience.

Medicine (for JWism) vs. Healing
by Markfromcali ini was thinking how the exit process as facilitated by people learning 'the truth about the truth' is rather like treatment of a disease, medicine can get rid of it but for example we know how chemotherapy can be hard on the body.
healing, then, would be something different and may be necessary after the 'harsh medicine.
' it's easy to resort to 'time heals all wounds', but when the wound is really deep obviously it helps to have something other than just sitting around waiting, because you're probably going to wait a really long time.

Does this distinction make sense?
Absolutely! JW preach a system in which you believe everything that you're told without questioning. To be a JW you have to walk blind and trust the WTS to lead you the right way.
Because of that background healing from the sickness called "JW" can only be accomplished by becoming willing to make your own decisions and therefore ask yourself many many questions. This because only questioning your beliefs puts you in the position to change them if you feel they are not appropriate. That way you build up self esteem and learn to trust in your own decisions. Imho that's the only way to heal.
growth = healing
