It rather takes the edge off what the memorial is all about really doesnt it?
I remember having a tape of a talk entitled 'jesus last days on earth' and it was the most moving talk i heard...surely if you believe that Jesus died for our sins then this should be focus of the memorial the fact that he died and did it for humanity.
All this 144'000 bollocks just clouds the issue.
my wifes father has just died.
he wasn't a jw but his wife is.my wife and i are recently disassociated.. the thing is, the reason my wife and i disassociated is because of cruel comments made by certain sisters toward my disabled daughter.
now my wife has to see these 2 particular people everyday at school (their 2 kids are in class with ours) now usually, they stand away from my wife waiting for their kids and walk out after us.
I reiterate all that has been said above; in whatever area you decide you have to channel that negative rage into something positive; who are they anyway? Why should they be allowed to hurt you? Let them go their own sweet way and someday time will come when all that has gone around will come around.

i have read so many posts and topics about how people are treated after leaving the org.
so i would like to share with you my take on this.. i cannot help but notice that most people seem to feel that they are looked down upon by the jw's.
whether it be from shunning: a mean look,comments, avoiding someone etc... i can honestly say that i have never felt this way, and i have run into several jw's since i left.
I do not allow them to talk down to me. EVER. When I encounter any old "friends" I am always friendlly and cordial and they just do not expect to see an XJW doing so well. I am expected to be a down and out drug addict ....a loser for "turning my back on Jehovah".
The thing is Franklin, even if they see you are successful they suggest that 'the devil looks after his own' its been said to me on countless occasions of other people.
i was reading the 1975 thread, and considered posting on it, but since i wasn't born until the carter administration, i don't think i really can comment on it.
i can sympathize, however.. you see, i was raised in the truth.
rarely missed a meeting.
For some the light does get brighter....it certainly has for many on this site anyway...perhaps not what the WTS had in mind but ce la vie.

i posted yesterday or day before regarding my anger at my wife being shunned the day after her father died.. in fact it was a very deliberate shun by 3 women who went out of their way to brush right past my wife.. i saw 2 of them today and went up to them in the school playyard and said very loudly for all the parents to hear:.
"i would like to thank you both for your condolensces and for walking right past my wife when her father had just died.. true christianity??

From my experience it is difficult to shun others despite the pressure placed upon you from the WTS.
There was a thinking and i am not sure where it came from but it was that there are times when you can speak to disfellowshipped/disassociated ones; like if you see them struggling with their shopping in the rain (hypothetically) and getting drenched you might offer them a lift etc but not associate with them further; surely that would be the more christian approach.
Very sad to hear that supposed Christians have lost sight of their values.
