i've often wondered about god's promise to hagar, ishmael"s mother in genesis 16:10 and 17:20 where he promises that he will greatly multiply her descendants making them too numerous to count, and also telling abraham that he would also bless ishmael and "he would certainly produce twelve chieftains, and i will make him become a great nation".
verse 25 also mentions that ishmael was circumcised which would make him part of the covenant made between jehovah and abraham.
in genesis 21:13, after telling abraham to drive hagar and ishmael out of his camp as sarah told him to do, god promised abraham that he would make a nation of ishmael too, because he was also abraham's son.
Hi Patricia,
Interesting topic! What period of time do you suppose the Book of Obadiah is talking about? Is it a future fufillment? It speaks of Esau and the decendents being cut off. Sorry about the thee's and thou's but it was the Bible I had open on the PC at the time
The Book of Obadiah
The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.
The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation [is] high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
Though thou exalt [thyself] as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.
If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave [some] grapes?
How are [the things] of Esau searched out! [how] are his hidden things sought up!
All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee [even] to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, [and] prevailed against thee; [they that eat] thy bread have laid a wound under thee: [there is] none understanding in him.
Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise [men] out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
And thy mighty [men], O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
For [thy] violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
Obad:1:11: In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou [wast] as one of them.
But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.
Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid [hands] on their substance in the day of their calamity;
Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.
For the day of the LORD [is] near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, [so] shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.
But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be [any] remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken [it].
And [they of] the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and [they of] the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin [shall possess] Gilead.
And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel [shall possess] that of the Canaanites, [even] unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which [is] in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.
And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.

hello friends,.
i recently visited a very interesting place on the internet, called "the center for unhindered living".
there were various sites to check, and one was of special interest to me, titled "unhindered spirituality".
The fact is, you should feel free to express the essence of who you are, and to celebrate your uniqueness.
This site explores faith and spirituality, and the way things REALLY are.
Hi Sentinel,
Thanks for the link! Very interesting site and I have seen my share of those type of groups.

Some real Bargins!
i am a "newbie" that has been "lurking" and commenting on a couple of posts over the last six months.
i was somewhat intimidated by some of the comments on the board so i didn't feel comfortable in introducing myself.
since simon seems to be dealing with some of the more "aggressive" posters i felt the time had come to introduce myself.
Thanks everyone. I really like to read so will take your advice. As far as the prayer aspect is concerned, I seem to have a blockage that I think is caused by guilt (as ridiculous as it seems) because of my confusion. Its had to disconnect "Jehovah" with the organization but I know that personally I need that connection with my heavenly father, so I am going to try and open up that avenue again.
Hang in there Patricia! {{{{Hugs}}}}}
<great name btw ..hehe>
A friend sent me this and I will share it with you :)
Sometimes Life seems hard to bear,Full of sorrow, trouble and woeIt's then I have to remember That's in the valleys I grow.If I always stayed on the mountain topand never experienced pain,I would never appreciate God's loveand would be living in vain.I have so much to learnand my growth is very slowSometimes I need the mountain topsBut it's in the valleys I grow.I do not always understand why things happen as they do,But I am very sure of one thingMy Lord will see me through.Forgive me Lord, for complainingWhen I 'm feeling very lowJust give me a gentle reminderthat it's in the valleys I grow.Continue to strengthen me, Lordand use my life each dayto share your love with othersand help them find their wayThank you for valleys, LordFor this one thing I knowThe mountain tops are gloriousBut it's in the valleys I grow !

we are still trying to put an end to this stalker stuff.
so far there still is not enough hard evidence for the police to do anything, but that white car that we saw checking us out the night we were parked outside watching our son's house has been back in the neighborhood and we now have the license tag number.
the problem is i can't find a web site where i can check out who the car belongs to without paying $100.
Hi Target,
I have access to certain states to look up that information so it depends on what state you are in. My brother-in-law has access to them all so if you want to email the info I will see what I can find.

can anyone tell me where to find the verse that says "god is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow?
" thanks!
Can anyone tell me where to find the verse that says "God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow?" Thanks!
\Well this one doesn't say God but I think it is the one you are referring to.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Hebrews 13:8
dear friends,.
i am 25, married (his name is james), and i have a 6-month old son.
i am looking for an online friend.
Hi Gail,
First off I am not a Jehovah's Witness but I have friends who are and many who were. Online is a great way to meet friends especially when you are tied to family responsibilities. I hope it's not a problem if non witnesses reach out the hand of friendship although maybe your conscience does not allow that. Anyway.. Welcome to the board and big hugs!
