Hello and welcome,
I agree that volunteering is a great idea. Also, have you read my favourite book "In Search of Christian Freedom"? It helped me a lot.
please, huge warning, if you're an angry ex-jw, save your bs advice, i dont' need to hear you put jw's down just to give advice.. i was raised a jw & am still bitter over injustice growing up at the hands of my elder father, and bitter over the abuse of my ex-husband.. i miss my fam, i miss peace, i miss a sense of belonging.
any advice on how to gain inner peace w/o selling myself out?.

Hello and welcome,

did you leave your sense of humors behind as well?
Hi
I have not yet come across anyone on this forum that ever left the truth.
Can I ask about how you define the term truth please?
“Dearly beloved friends, don’t always believe everything you hear just because
someone says it is a message from God: test it first to see if it really is.” (1 John 4:1)
I have heard the term “the truth” so often recently, how do Jehovah’s Witnesses define “the truth”? I looked up these words in my dictionary:
Truth: the state or quality of being true
Error: a departure from the truth in a statement or in a belief
Err: to make a mistake, to be wrong
Under the dictionary definitions “the truth” cannot contain “errors”; truth and error are incompatible. This would suggest that the Biblical definition of truth would suggest infallibility. I can accept the Word of God as infallible, but many fallible humans interpret the Word of God in many different ways. Are the Scriptures truth? Can the Apostles’ interpretations of the Scriptures be accepted as truth? Do the Scriptures refer to any other source of truth? Could any of the above mentioned sources of truth contain error? If something described as “the truth” yesterday is acknowledged as error today, was it ever “truth”? By the same token, if “the truth” is what is being taught today, does that mean it will never be considered as “error” in the future?
If we are not very careful, the concept of truth could become pretty meaningless, and just about anyone could claim to be in “the truth”. I need to understand exactly what is meant by people who claim to be in “the truth”. Rightly or wrongly, my own feeling is that “truth” must be absolute and unchanging. When Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life...” I believe he meant an unchanging, eternal truth. What is the Watchtower’s definition of “the truth”?
Many, if not all religions, speak in the name of the truth, based on their understanding of the Bible, yet they all disagree with each other. It seems the Bible can be interpreted in different ways by imperfect humans. And what happens when we discover that “the truth” contains many “departures from the truth” or “errors”? Does this allow the possibility that such claims about “the truth” were false or mistaken? Can any religion really claim to have a monopoly on ‘truth’? How often can we alter 'truth'? And what is this I read about 'past truths' and 'former truths'?

your Clockwork Orange quote reminds me of a scriptural quote but I can't find it. Something like...to reject something before even hearing it is folly indeed...or something similar.

lumpectomy or mastectomy???.
outnfree and i chose differently.
i know the doctors gave me the survival rates................the same.
Simplesally,
My wife faced the same dilemma 15 months ago. Every individual case is very different, as your research has no doubt shown you.
She was set against mastectomy, but the lumpectomy was not sufficient. They found more cancer elsewhere in the breast and in the lymph nodes, so just weeks after the first op she was strongly advised to have the mastectomy. This she did - to my relief. We have 2 kids (15 and 10 at the time) and I wanted her to take the 'safest' decision.
For her, it turned out to be mastectomy, but she would have opted for lumpectomy only if she had any real choice. I do feel every case is different, both clinically and for each individual. I believe different decisions appear right in different cases, but the problem is not knowing what the outcome of each choice will be - except in percentage terms.
Like my beloved wife, you certainly sound like a survivor. My best wishes
before i disassociated myself a month ago, i sent out a brief letter to a few of my friends to let them know about my choice and my reasons for so choosing.
the responses varied.
one of the common responses i received was "i'm sorry you were stumbled.
That was an excellent letter deserving of a more appreciative audience than the one it will get. However, you may have planted a seed, even in one mind, that could germinate is a few years from now.
A Warm Welcome.
have any of you ever feel abandoned by "friends" because you dont associate (congregate) with them anymore?
there is a couple of 'friends' that i haven't talked to for about a year, (because i dont go to the meetings).
i dont have anything against them or the congregation.
Hello and welcome. You are no wuss, the actions of your friends are very hurtful. Yet it is really not so much their fault, but that of the organisation they are part of. I admire your strength for no longer participating in such a collection of hurtful and unChristian doctrines.
My very close friend, we were like brothers from 12 year old until less than a year ago, was baptised a JW this summer. I am not an apostate as I was nevwe a JW but I am a Christian. I researched JW indoctrination process and predicted I would soon be shunned, My dear friend was horrified by my prediction (February of this year) he promised he would be my close friend always.
I am now shunned unless I pester him. What a beautiful Christ-like religion - NOT.
how did the jw's get this backwards when they claim to have an accurate knowledge of the scriptures, they seem to have by-passed this somehow.
i have never seen such a group or sect or religion that hated people outside of their own realm than i have seen in this religion.
that is not to be taken personal as i know it comes from borg teachings.
Cygnus,
I'm really surprised at you. You are usually so careful to stop people posting biased or inaccurate stuff (at least about JWs).
Yet that was a pretty biased summary of Christ in the NT.
What surprises me most is that you did not acnowledge that Christ always spoke in parables, hyperbole and symbolic language. Knowing this as you do, why do you present his words as if you believe he meant them literally?
You would criticise anyone who did similar with Watchtower or Russell's words.
haha i hope this doesn't come across as mean or jerky or libelous... but i can totally see defd becoming apostate... he posts here a lot which means he reads even more.
to me it's just a matter of "seeing it when you're ready to"... kind of like those 3d art things that were popular in the mid-90's... it's invisible until you make deep focus and at the same time blur your eyes to what you would normally see.

Yes - that was one of my top 100 flip-flops.
Didn't I read another earlier one where they confused Satan with Jehovah. Not just the Great Pyramid designer, but didn't they also get dodgy information from somewhere about Abaddon?
actually married.
why hide it.
yall were beginning to figure it out anyway.
wasn't fooled for a second...but you have seen me post several times that i never believe any conspiracy theories. This one too far fetched for me. I always find real contrasts between married couples, wheras you too are very similar yet different. What I mean is that the two of you have demonstrated repeatedly that you could not be happily married. You can't have two different fundamentalist religions in such happy liaison. One fundie & one orthodox, but not two opposing fundies.
Well, if I'm really honest, there was a moment of doubt on about page 2 or 3, but not for long.
