The PO I study with seemed so proud that high ranking british JWs go to Buckingham Palace and the like for focus groups with politicians and other religious leaders. He also mentioned they talk to Jimmy Carter, Hilary Clinton etc who do good things to help witnesses abroad. Is this a shift in policy? I got the impression he knew I knew about their UN association and he was trying to head me off at the pass!

It is a shame for those for whom the current policy came too late. It would be so much easier if the watchtower just admitted that it has known for years that their understanding of scriptures on this point, like many others was just plan wrong. Please dont blame the media for not keeping up with present truth.
They failed to understand that not only were transfusions not against Gods law, but that even eating blood would not be against Gods law. Like Romans 13, most Christians understood this due to the complete truth revealed in the New Testament.

Hello friend, Most of the people who post on this board are victims of a destructive anti-Christian cult who call themselves Witnesses of Jehovah. Occasionally some folks from that publishing company disguised as a religion come on to tell us how evil we all are.
Please stick around, you have a lot to offer us. There are many who are still seriously hurting as a result of JWs. I have made many friends here as I try to get my lifelong friend out of the cult. A Warm wecome.

The scary thing is that this guy is undoubtedly sincere!! Arguing with such, especially when it gets heated, just doesnt work, I know from bitter experience and have made my task doubly difficult. Both sides just get more deeply entrenched. It really would take more subtle tactics to cause people like that to seriously doubt.
As we all know, this person and many others have been starved of real information. I recently received a pack, bought from freeminds, of watchtower pages, old and new which themselves systematically prove the falsehood of each doctrine in the knowledge book, mainly by demonstrating the cluelessness of the so called FDS throughout its history.
If only such people could be exposed to the wealth of non-apostate material. Or, if someone defies their leadership rules about keeping off such swebsites, maybe they would meet the challenge of reading the new testament on its own, including the many portions that have never been quoted in Watchtower publications. Or if one would take up a challenge to follow up the kingdom interlinear J references to their sources, yes even go to the museums where the translations are kept which their Bible prefers to the ancient manuscripts. They would get a terrible shock which just might lead to questions, without them ever reading anything but their own Bible and other oublications.
Or perhaps they are afraid to follow the following watchtower advice: If we want to worship God acceptably, we must know the truth. This is an important issue. Our eternal happiness depends on it. Therefore, everyone should ask himself: is my way of worship acceptable to God? Am I genuinely interested in learning the truth of God?s word? Or am I afraid of what a careful investigation might reveal? But which defiant ones will take up that watchtower challenge? Are they lovers of truth or do they lack the courage?

quess who came around on saturday? INTERESTING READ FOR SOME!
by badboy in.
we talked about jehovah's name being important and it was explained that jehovah is a form of yahweh, just as people names may be spelled differently, so jehovah is how some people spell yahweh.. we had quotes from daniel and deuteromony?.
we also got round to judges 1;8,21.. they said that the reason that it says the men of judah took jerusalem near the beginning of judges is because in a newspaper, the journalists emphasizes a certain part of the story.. the events in judges 1;8 may have happened during the `split' between israel and judah.. jerusalem was like gibeon, surroundering to the israelites, only later it became apostate.. .

If Jehovahs name is so important (personal name rather than reputation and what he stands for) then why did none of the authors of the Christian Greek scriptures use it in the New Testament, nor even in the non canonical scriptures?
Even in the NWT there are seven Books of the New Testament that never use it at all. Could it be that JWs are mistaken about the importance of the Divine Name in the New Testament. The NT authors make it clear that it is Christs name that must be used.
It was wrong however to remove the Divine Name from the Old Testament and replace it with Lord, just as wrong as what the NWT did by inserting it into the NT. Their Kingdom Interlinear is the best guide to what the original authors wrote ignoring the adjacent NWT distortions)

Like you I'm still searching for such things, in case I missed something. But why would they need the Bible when they get information direct from God? Anyway, the Bible is not written to us or for us, according to the Watchtower.
Where does it say in the Bible that the new covenant (and therefore the New Testament) (and therefore the Christ) (and therefore much of the old testament) is only for 144,000 people? If that were the case perhaps they should each have been given their own autographed copy. Where does it say that the 8,000 so called anointed JWs are the only way the rest of us can attain salvation - I thought I had read about only one mediator, a man, the Christ, a ransom sacrifice for
144,000all.Oh, youve got me going again

Yeah, Acts simply gives the very approximate number of people who had been converted to Christianity. No record kept of their names. No record of hours spent preaching, no requirement to attend regular meetings. Those converted were done so quickly and spontaneously and baptised without having to learn doctrines or answer questions. They were baptised as Jesus commanded, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Many thanks Jeff,
My daughter gets confirmed next Sunday. BTW, I loved your thread on the Divine Name, which I have been researching in great detail. I added some thoughts to your thread about what I have found. Even the Watchtower couldnt remove Thomas words My Lord and my God. lol
It is a long time since I was a catholic. I would be genuinely interested in your thoughts about the rightness of praying to Mary mother of God, or saints etc, and whether there are any scriptures to support this?
