I saw some stats but cant locate them. The number of earthquakes on average has not changed during the past few thousand years. The number of people affected has grown of course due to the rising population. And we can locate & measure even small ones antwhere in the world now due to scientific equipment & technology.

The kingdom elite?
by greendawn inconsider that the kingdom of heavens is after all a body of people (who originated from the earth) and who wield political power ie it is a body of rulers with a fixed number of members.
could the jws be right in saying that there will be this ruling body, and another class that of the ruled, even though it is certainly very wrong to believe that they will live on this earth for ever and not have jesus as their mediator and the annointing of the spirit.
were the two proposed classes (1. the elite of all the elite and 2. the elite), gathered in parallel throughout christian history rather than first one and then the other as the jws claim?

A good book I read recently would support Narkissos' understanding of NT teaching, although it approaches from a different perspective. What the Bible really teaches by Keith Ward (former Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford University). An eye opener for me personally, certainly made me think!

James
You asked specifically about Armageddon. What does the Bible teach?
Luke 21:8
When Christ foretold the coming of false Messiahs, he spoke also of men who would come saying:
'the time is very near now, and he counselled never follow men like that'.
Please read and research as Jesus commanded, do not believe men. Reading the New Testament without mens aids, and in prayer, will reveal the truth. Try Johns gospel, or Pauls letters to Galatians, Romans, etc.
The most important book you could read is perhaps Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz.
You take care, please James.

James,
If you believe in God and Christ, at some point you will have to choose between Christianity and Jehovah's Witnesses. Or you may choose neither. My lifelong friend is about to be baptised into JWs and he is not allowed to talk to me. I am a Christian who studies the Bible daily. He hates to study but does so because men tell him he must or else. I have written long heartfelt letters to my beloved friend, but his wife handed them to the elders before he could read them. pm me with an email address if you want to see what I wrote. Someone may as well see it. You are doing what The Bible commands us all to test everything:
1 John 4:1 The Living Bible Dearly beloved friends, don’t always believe everything you hear just because someone says it is a message from God: test it first to see if it really is.
Acts 17:10-11
Now the latter were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so.
1 Thess 5:21
Test everything. Hold on to the good
Psalm 146:3 NWT
Do not put your trust in nobles, Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs.
Romans 10:2
For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge; for because of not knowing the righteousness of God but seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the Law, so that everyone exercising faith may have righteousness.
James 1:5, 4:8
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him……
Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.
Matthew 23:8,10 New International Version
But you are not to be called rabbi for you have only one Master and you are all brothers….nor are you to be called teacher for you have one teacher, the Christ.
John 8:31-32
The truth will make you free
If one rejects a matter before he hears, it is folly and shame to him

Hi you all.
by chrissy innew to the forum & simply introducing myself.
i've enjoyed reading some of the posts here.
it is so nice to know these forums exist for poor ex-jw girls that suffer from post tramatic sheltered-from-the-rest-of-the-free-world syndrome.

You do realise dont you, that millions completely misunderstood your symbolism of Armaggedon and the Kingdom, and thought these things were about killing most people and a paradise earth for a few. Yes, I know you spelled out God is Love and hundreds of similar overriding truths, but some folks were told not to read the New Testament and try to understand what it is really saying.

JWs & Religion
by RevFrank inone of the major things the watchtower teach is learning religions and how important it is to find out if one is catholic or baptist or so forth.
i can recall when i was studying with my ex-inlaws in the blue, "truth," book, there's a chapter on, "why is it wise to study you're religion.
" there you'll discover it covers just a few tibbits on most major religions.

Paul, in his letter to the Galatians was astonished that so soon they were turning to a different Gospel – not that there is another one. One of the people who Paul opposed to his face for straying from the truth of the Gospel was Peter himself. (Gal 2:11). Paul then went on to explain in Galatians what the truth of the Gospel really is. I then read Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and this contains the same consistent version of the revealed mystery of the Gospel. In the book of Romans, Corinthians and elsewhere in his letters, we find the consistent messages about the true meaning of the Gospel.
This troubles me, because on those occasions when Jehovah’s Witnesses have rang my doorbell, they have preached a very different good news, as if the 2000 year old version is out of date. They tried to teach me what appeared to be a 20 th century updated version, with 1914 a central part of the good news of the kingdom. But the Bible talks of an everlasting good news which is the basis for 'the faith that was once for all time delivered to the holy ones'. Jesus prophesied that this good news of the kingdom will be preached to the whole world. Can any Jehovah’s witness read Pauls letters to the Galatians or Ephesians which explain the true meaning of the good news, and say that this is the this good news (Jesus’ words) that they preach on the doorstep? Remember, the book of Revelation was not even written, nor was the New Testamant when what Jesus described as This Good News was preached by the apostles in its unadulterated form. I therefore ask whether the typical door to door activity qualifies as an effective witness for Christianity, or is it more about putting time in and doing duty. Is the emphasis on quantity or quality, and what is the true motivation?
If I turn to the book of Acts, and the various writings of Jesus’ Apostles, to see how they present the good news. The good news preached on doorsteps now by Jehovah’s Witnesses is in stark contrast, and I ask why? Their message to me was about negative world conditions and a new world directed by a new heavenly government. Yet I know that other Christian religions who have also rejected all that is wrong with Christendom, continue to preach the original Apostolic version of the good news to all the world in nearly 2000 languages, but they use a variety of methods, not just door to door activity.
Have Jehovah’s Witnesses, like the Galatians, 'so soon turned to a different gospel – not that there is another? Paul then states clearly what the real gospel was and is. He repeats this in Ephesians, Romans etc. Yet it seems that the Watchtower president, admittedly prone to many errors, redefines the truth of the gospel to as follows:
The Society's former president, Frederick W. Franz, in the morning Bible discussion for the headquarters family on
The sole purpose of our existence as a Society is to announce the Kingdom established in 1914 and to sound the warning of the fall of the Great. We have a special message to deliver.
