The Telegraph article reads in part:
The tablet is dated to the 10th year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II, 595BC, 12 years before the siege of Jerusalem.
Is that a mistake? surely it should be 8 years before the siege, in Neb's 18th year?
Or am I missing something?

Old Testament figure named on 2600-year-old tablet
by whereami ini wonder if this will do anything to help settle the 607 vs' 587 debate.. the british museum yesterday hailed a discovery within a clay tablet in its collection as a breakthrough for biblical archeology - proof of the accuracy of the old testament.. .
the cuneiform inscription in a tablet dating from 595bc has been deciphered for the first time - revealing a reference to an official at the court of nebuchadnezzar, king of babylon, that proves the historical existence of a figure mentioned in the book of jeremiah.
it is rare evidence in a non-biblical source of a real person, other than kings, featured in the bible.

by besty inwe will find out soon.

some friends have probed for details, others don't want to know.

right - I've just called Mum and big bro answered the phone!
I asked if it was true he was changing his phone number to 999 (911) and he launched into a speech about how we had started this and we were apostate bad people and they couldn't mix with us. I said Oh ok - can you put Mum on please? That was it. I might never speak to my only brother ever again (until there is an emergency - I think I will write to him asking for a list of approved emergencies so I don't make it worse)
Spoke to Mum for a bit longer and she was more emotional obviously. I kept my cool and didn't react to her saying I was lacking in humility and materialistic and she could accept it easier if i would be honest and say I was preferring the worldly lifestyle. Anyway when she said the truth would be known for the love I couldn't let that one go - not one person from a cong I had been in for 9 years has made the effort to contact me in any way since I stopped going 3 months ago. No answer. Erm - oh yes - I should be getting in touch with them...thats right you heard correct...her fallback position was get the elders round - they've been round and didn't ask any prayer or read any scripture. No answer. Oh yes -thats right - I'm within my rights to request a prayer - somehow thats my fault too!!
She asked if we had learned anything bad from her and Dad as we were brought up. I said no, everything in the Scriptures was beneficial but going beyond the Scriptures was the problem. What, she wanted to know, wasn't in the Scriptures? I replied I hadn't seen 1914 in there. Apparently I need to do more research. I said I had and that was the problem - the numbers don't add up. No answer.
She also reminded me of the dictionary definition of apostate. I was sorely tempted to remind her of how the Borg confuses the dictionary definition against the Biblical one, but applies the Biblical penalty for the dictionary 'crime'. (Clear?) But I didn't. I also didn't remind her she was a dictionary apostate herself - too harsh - she was very upset and she lost her husband (my Dad) last summer.
Anyway she hasn;t changed her phone number to 999 until she hears from my congregation and then she'll know what to do. In other words once we are DA/DF she can then shun us officially. Nice. To think of all the effort I've gone to not to be DA/DF in the last 3 months specifically to make it easier for them to talk to me and now they are shunning me anyway. DOH. Whats a guy to do? I wish Homer Simpson was an apostate he would have some timely advice - (New thread I think)
Well they're not getting off that lightly - there's no way I'm going to DA now - if my plan comes together I'll get our Record Cards out of the cong. and disappear them and us.
So thats my evening - time for another Peroni!!

Agreed Blondie - never graceful.
My brother returned my wifes call this afternoon and said that he and his wife had decided as we are apostate badass-ociation that as far as they were concerned it was to be emergency contact only from now on. Shame, we have two young boys they will miss out on seeing growing up...
When i do get around to speaking to him I will blame religion for splitting up the family, and as i don't have a religion anymore, it must be his thats causing the problem. Nice logic i think....
So now i have to call my Mum who hasn't said yet whether she is speaking to us or not...
Most of our friends are going down the ignore them evil 'postates route.

Need a good question to ask a JW at work
by claytoncapeletti inif you had to pick the best question that would disprove a scared jw belief what would it be?
i am not looking to debate the meaning of a scripture vs. a different scripture, rather i am looking for one of their beliefs that science and or history can totally dispute.
i may only be able to ask one question and there is a good chance that it will end up back to the elders.

Why are you forbidden from talking to ex-members? I know that Scientologists and Moonies have the same practice...isn't this a hallmark of a mind-control cult?

those of you who have posted here regularly for the past four years have helped me immensely in my recovery from watchtower and have shared with me in my journey.
you will also know that, after winning my battle with watchtower (save for one daughter who is still stuck fast in the org and shunning the rest of us), i have been fighting an even greater battle these past three years - cancer!.

Confidentiality and the elders.
by LtCmd.Lore inwhile talking to a jw elder: if you specifically state that you are speaking to him as and elder, and that you want the conversation to be classified.
is he legally required to keep it secret, like a church confessional or doctor/patient type thing?.

When Sweet Pea went to tell her best friend why we weren't going to meetings anymore the friend said 'tell me what the problem is? I've heard it all before - 607, you name it..' from her husband former elder who had been involved with a few apostasy cases.
He'd obviously blabbed when he shouldn't have - the same guy later stepped down as elder and his wife told Sweet Pea they'd hit rock bottom as a married couple - yet to this day we don't know why he stepped down or what their problems were - yet we're their supposed {conditional} best friends.
Confidentiality where it suits themselves is the rule of thumb. -

Summer BBQ means Rose for me - right now its a Provencal Chateau de Caraguilhes 2006 - yumm. I started drinking Rose about 5 years ago - my friend has a house near the Tavel region in Provence and summer wouldn't be summer without it.

Has anyone the attendance figures for 2007 memorial?
by alanv ini know the memorial figures are not a very good indicater of how the borg are doing but the figures can certainly be compared with last years.i guess there won't be a worldwide figure yet but possably there will be totals for some individual countries available.
i am from the u.k. and the totals will probably have been published in the kingdom ministry by now.

Interesting developments with my wife.
by Paralipomenon init has been quite a while since i've provided an update but recently things have been odd.
there have been alot little things i've picked up on that leads me to believe my wife is really struggling with the concept of remaining a witness.
i provide gentle coaxing here and there.

Great news Para - I'm really pleased and excited for you - are you an active dub at the moment?
With my wife Sweet Pea and I it sounded quite similar - I just had to bide my time and be patient - you are the best judge of what she can handle, but as has often be said here before normally a person needs a 1-2 punch so to speak. So douts about the Borg combined with a compelling event such as some dub really upsetting them, or learning about the paedo/UN situation.
