  It is finished, or is it just beginning?

  well i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.

  i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.

  she immediately went to to one of the elders.

  I hope the relief of everything outweighs some of the emptiness. I remember when I wrote the elders my letter and specifically said I had made my decision and don't wish to discuss it with anyone, I wouldn't answer phone calls, answer my door and generally tried to be gone all the time. I really just couldn't wait for it all to be done with. Thank God it only took them 2 weeks to finally realize I meant I didn't want to talk to them.

  There was a large whole to get used to, but I found ways to fill it and carry on. I still don't like the witnesses much(mostly the religion and the self-righteous fools).

  Me too! I wish I had at least one of my sisters or brothers(out of 5)and at least my mom! It sure feels crappy to be voted least on the list of our parents priorities. What a shame that our mom's would give up their children for an institution.

  Banning Alcohol

  anyone caught drinking should be disfellowshipped.

  Being that the Society controls every other aspect of JW lives, I just am unable to comprehend why alcohol ISN'T an issue. I know there is councel about over-drinking, but they aren't very serious about it.

  The bible doesn't condemn pot smoking or smoking yet it is a disfellowshipping offense. My man smokes pot which of course shocks my family(they think he is evil) yet he is good to me and loves me and a good father and he provides very well. The alcohol in my family has caused much grief. From personal experience, when my husband drank all the time we had violent times and he was just plane nasty. When he either didn't drink or just smoked pot he was wonderful. My sister asked , If I had the choice would I pick alcohol or marij? She was pretty shocked that I adamantly did not pick alcohol. I believe if JW's got their head out of their ass and really thought about this they would either ban alcohol or they would allow pot.

  I don't think I could ever give back what I have taken from this board. I am not scholarly and I just don't have a lot of time. What I do contribute if it is anything worthwhile is all that I can right now.

  i was so afraid.

  i was still attending meetings and my husband had no idea i was posting on an apostate site.. much has changed; we are both inactive faders and much happier.. thanks to all of you along the way that shed light on the darkness in my life.. love, blondie

  Advising those getting caught in the JW nets.

  if someone feels attracted to the jws to the point of beginning a bible study with them what sort of advice,if any, would you give them at this early stage before she/he gets hopelessly mind conditioned and entangled in their nets?

  .

  i would base my response on the principle that one should first carefully check out the way they (the wts)treat their followers before getting intimately involved with them.

  Make sure they know what a cult is and does. They have to be responsible to draw their own conclusion, but they must have the info to do this.

  Hopefully they will be able to figure things out early in their study that when the witnesses say that family will be used by satan to try and take you away from God by objecting to their involvement with the org. and they may have to make some choices in their association as far as family goes, they will realize that this is the mind of cult thinking.

  I agree MIN. There is so many young people in the org now that need this honesty. Many in the gen. of my parents, I don't expect any mass exodus, but the young ones I believe we owe this truth too. They are frustrated and are powerless to do much about the org, but we can a least attempt to help free them with truthful info.

  Priests sexually exploit young people; church cover up - Book Study comment

  well, having attended the book study this week, we started the first few chapters in the new brochure, "keep on the watch" .

  and, as predicted by myself, the brother taking the study blames the catholic church for all the sexual abuse.

  another classic example of the ostrich mentality.

  I believe the organization has a serious lack of empathy. They seem to be unable to draw a parallel with the Catholic church as far as...well... many things. Particularly the sexual abuse though.

  They are like little children. You know how little kids can identify when their feelings have been hurt by another kid yet they will do the same thing to someone else and they just don't see how it is the same.

  For some reason when this kind of stuff happens in other religions it is appauling to them , yet in the org it is human for people to make mistakes and loving not to report it. Who would have thunk it!!!

  "Theocratic Warfare" - An Apostate Strategy?

  who here had ever heard of this so-called 'doctrine' of "theocratic warfare" when you were a jehovah's witness?

  who has not heard of the so-called doctrine now that you are an apostate?

  so why have witnesses never heard of 'doctrine', yet apostates seem to promote it as the last word on witness standards of honesty, integrity and decency?

  I left JW just about 2 years ago. I remember the term Theocratic Warfare being used in one of our convention talks. I don't remember much about the talk, but I do remember asking an elder what it meant. I was told that it was a strategie used to protect the organization. I can't remember the whole thing, but I came away thinking that the Society would now be able to not tell the truth or hide information etc.

  Theocratic Warfare is a term used by witnesses in my area as well as where my JW family lives.
