As it should! But considering the fact that it happened in 1934, we have to just relax, release and breathe . . .

Are there any post JW dating sites around?
by Nellie ina computerphobic friend of mine (seriously) wants me to sign her up on a few dating sites.
she's inactive and not interested in going back, but imo would benefit from being with someone who understood the whole "borg" thing.
is there such a thing?.

OMG - I googled JW Dating . . . and there is a site called Online Dating with JW Match! It's an online dating service for JWs! Ooooh! I bet the brothers don't know about this!

Do they still Pop Block?
by sacolton init's hot.. your throat is dry.. you need a ice cold drink to quench your thirst.. during a talk, you make your way to the vending machines and .... .
"sorry, brother.
this machine is out of order.

I'm sure the reasoning at work was the same as the "brown paper bag your lunch" - they don't want any money going to the vending machine god's - that way you have more for the contribution box.

Satan really has a lot of power.
by LouBelle inthere are a couple of christians at work and they chat amongst themselves about the times we are living in and the church meetings they have.
the recent conversation is surrounding the power of satan.
that he will set his will against you if you try and read the bible.

Fear is a powerful motivator - and not just in religion - just ask any Republican.

Talked with Old High School buddy after 30 years - I apologized
by flipper inthis was something i was wanting to do for a long time .
i knew this friend as far back as elementary school, we played tennis together in high school , played music and sang together in his band a little.
a very nice guy who i was close to until age 19. but because of my jehovah's witness upbringing it changed at 19.. long story short, although my witness parents allowed me to associate with this friend and other non-witness friends, in 1979, my then fanatic witness fiance laid the law down to me that we could not have any non-witness friends at our wedding.

Congratulations Flipper. Glad to hear about your reconnection! In this age of Facebook and Myspace - it sure does make trying to find someone a lot easier. My personal experience is that I keep losing friends (of course they're all witnesses) - guess I should've had more non-witness friends back then.

Want to Introduce myself....Hi everyone.
by ilovelamp120 inhi all, i've been reading here for awhile and made a few posts before realizing i should probably introduce myself.
it's so refreshing to read ppl's thoughts on these topics, which run deeply personal, and i've never been able to express myself freely, so thanks for such a great forum.. i was born and raised a dub, by my "spiritually single" mother (dad was an unbeliever..still is) me and my 3 other siblings all fell away before getting baptised, other than my older sis, who was df'd at 16. unfortunatley in my early 20's a sister "took an interest in me and we had a bible study for 2 years before getting baptized at 24.
(what a regret) since then i floundered, flopped, got df'd a year later for dum, dum, dum..."fornication and then reinstated 9 months later.

And that's why so many of us shy away from any form of organized religion . . .

Reluctant to tell others of JW past?
by happpyexjw inhas anyone felt uncomfortable telling others that they were once jws?
i have shared this info with very few people in the 19 years since i left.
i don't want to have to explain to someone who wouldn't understand anyway.
-
Nellie
I've found that sharing with others that I "used to be" a witness explains a lot about who I am to them. I don't look at it any differently than saying to someone "I used to live in NY." Making friends with new people is all about sharing your life's experiences. Just a few weeks ago a friend told me she had a hard time imagining me as a witness because I come across as so liberal. I laughed and said, that's probably how the people in the congregation saw me too! I guess that's why I'm not one anymore. I am not an apologists - I don't mind saying what's wrong with the organization - but it also allows me to answer questions about what motivates the r&f. Too bad I can't count the time! LOL
