  i realize that the contents of this thread may enflame the passions of those on all sides of the house.

  if your sensibilities are easily damaged, you take yourself to seriously, or your humor is wanting, then be warned this may not be the thread for you.. i have been reading with interest a thread on this board today that is discussing the treatment of us veterans.

  i have noticed that when such subjects are discussed there is an automatic assumption that those who don the uniforms of their respective nations, they somehow are automatically walking on a higher moral ground.. i find it all the more puzzling that those who cry the loudest for 'special' treatment for soldiers, and by special i mean as compared to the rest of the working masses, seem to be of an republican bent.

  As usual I'm confused. I try to avoid these discussions, partly because I work for a very relevant government agency and partly because my opinion remains diametric to it, and it's best not to mention it. But since you asked... there are things about the military that I don't get. Firstly; how they keep getting away with the theft of the future of so many people who have such promise, just on the ludicrous apparitions of 'duty' and 'honour'. Secondly, that when these kids have been trained up and properly canned they think that at some point they'll get to have a say in what battles they're going to fight; that for a long time they think it's a democracy. Thirdly, that they think that everybody is grateful for their sacrifice and buys the same WMD bologna, or at least doesn't realise that outside the service, people can think whatever they damn please.

  do you think that a lot of engaged jws have sex before getting married?

  i think so, only a few fall into the guilt trip after they're married, and ultimately confess.

  Is being searched by your employer EVERY day legal?

  i am in the middle of induction training for a new job at a local store that is one of the uk's largest hardware stores.. today we were told it was company policy that every staff member is searched everyday before they leave the shop.

  you cannot, under any circumstances leave the store until you have been searched both your bag and person and sometimes you car also searched.. your handbag has to be emptied and searched, your pockets have to be emptied and you have to take off whatever clothes you are told to take off including shoes, roll up your shirt above waist level if you are a woman and loosen the waist band of your trousers.. if i am right, even the police are not permitted to search anyone without due cause and i already feel 'violated' at the thought that i will have to go through this humiliation everyday.

  this shop basically sells toiletries, garden stuff etc and insist that half of their theft if from staff.. however, we were also told that shoplifters cannot be stopped unless they have been followed all round the store and their is 100% knowledge that they have stolen something as a stop and search would get the store into terrible trouble.. so, am i correct in thinking that these people are going to violate my human rights every day!.

  That's intolerable. I like to think that you should tell them to shove their lousy job, but I don't know what the employment story is like over there. Here it's 3% unemployment. If they tell you off for taking too long for lunch you can tell them to shove their lousy job, because there's a better one in the shop next door.

  Need suggestions... how do I respond to my elders?

  so our fade is not going so well.

  too many people have been asking about us, and therefore giving us attention.

  we've had no choice but tell select few friends that we're discouraged, and one that we're having a hard time believing the fds in general.

  "We're just a little confused right now / haven't been well / been quite down lately... I really appreciate your help but we think that we should leave this with Jehovah for now. We'll be able to work it out soon enough."

  Please, I need helpful suggestions.....

  i've been reading this board for a while, but never posted, but now everything has changed and i have nowhere to go for suggestions- .

  my witness husband (robert7) in december, the night before the assembly, told me that he isn't a witness anymore, doesn't want to be involved anymore, doesn't believe it.

  of course, i'm a good witness, take the kids out in service a few days a week every week... very active in the cong.my first reaction was that "i cant love him if he doesn't love jehovah" and it really looked like we surely would get a divorce in jan/feb.

  Hi love, I just so wish that I could step in as a new friend right now, and be a new not-actually-but-might-a-well-be Aunt to your kids. It's going to be confusing and maddening for some time, but that will go away, and you'll be left wondering how you let all that stuff happen, and where you found the time, and how you didn't notice that there are so many ways for life to be great in the real world.

  I'm sorry about your friends; that one really really hurts. You're right about them being bitches, but you'll wonder how you could say that sometimes. Keep reminding yourself; accept nothing less than friendship from your friends. If they loved you, they wouldn't be blackmailing you. Friends don't do that.

  It takes time to make new friends; time and the effort of building a shared history. It will be a while before you can trust new people, but don't make it too hard. Right now think about a dozen new hobbies you'd like to try yourself or with the kids and hubby, and spend this year trying them. Keep yourself distracted from the ugly stuff.

  For all you PETROL & GAS whiners. Stop complaining that it's too expensive!

  here in the uk we're paying over a 1 a litre for regular unleaded fuel, that's about $9 per gallon for my american friends.

  now i'm as aware as anyone that the bulk of my fuel pound goes to the government in duty (or fuel tax) but let's just look at the bottom line cost to you and i as motorists - 1/litre.. just getting the the damn stuff out of the ground is dangerous and expensive, especially at offshore rigs.

  then you have to transport it, refine it and transport it again.
