Depends on all the circumstances. I definitely would be open to forgiveness but it really depends.

Welcome newbies!
You will learn a lot on this forum, I know I have. If you haven't heard of the book--Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz, a former Governing Body member, it really opens your eyes to the fallacies (did I spell that right?) of the Watchtower Society.

Elders are after me--PART 2
by love2Bworldly inok--i have decided i do want to answer the door when the elders return.
i won't let them speak at all, i am going to hold up my hand and tell them to let me have my say.
i am planning to say the following, and i'm trying to keep it very simple and to the point:.

Thanks for all your responses, I think I'll sleep on it tonight. I may decide it's not worth my time and energy to expend it on them. My part 1 post had a good response from one person who suggested I copy my original letter and give it to them. I'll have to think about what/ or whether I'm going to bother with them at all. Since my sister called them and gave them my address, I know they have what they need anyway.

Ok--I have decided I DO want to answer the door when the elders return. I won't let them speak at all, I am going to hold up my hand and tell them to let me have my say. I am planning to say the following, and I'm trying to keep it very simple and to the point:
"I am shocked and confused that when I completely stopped going to the Kingdom Hall 15 years ago, no one called or stopped by to check on my spiritual well-being. Now that I am no longer interested in your religion, you have the nerve to show up at my door uninvited to try and condemn me. How very unChrist-like, very cultish, and obviously you and your organization are not being directed by the Holy Spirit of your so-called loving God Jehovah. Do not come back ever. Good Bye." SLAM or shut firmly while their mouths are gaping or trying to talk to me.
I like my response because I refuse to listen to anything they have to say to me, and just maybe it will get them to think about how unloving their behavior is.

Specific banned shows, songs, etc...?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower ini know the society tells people not to listen to rock n roll cause its from teh satan, not to watch r rated movies because they're "worldly", etc.
but i was wondering if folks had any specific instances where one song, one show, one movie, or whatever was singled out as being particularly 'evil', and banned on an individual basis?
i was never a jw, but was in the worldwide church of god...the two are rather similar, i've seen many (and made quite a few myself) comparisons on the board; and i can remember as a child that every once in a while certain things would get brought up as being more evil and worldly than others.. examples of specific bans:.

My girlfriend from high school had an elder dad who thought Rocky was too violent, so she spent the night at my house so we could sneak to the movies LOL
Basically the JWs would say something about pretty much any singer because all of them were WORLDLY. Beatles did drugs, Elton John was gay, many were said to have Satanic influences.
My JW sister, after seeing a bunch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer videos in my daughters' room and a few very innocent Rock band posters, decided that it could be contributing to whatever issues I had going on at the time with my kids. LOL I just tried to stifle a laugh and later laughed about it with my oldest daughter who was 18 at the time.

Help! Elders are after me-need advice!
by love2Bworldly inhi--3 times this weekend 2 elders came to my door asking for me by name (my kids answered the door).
apparently my jw sister notified the elders about the letter she received from me several months ago and gave them my new address.
my letter was very clear about how i felt about the watchtower society and i have not stepped foot in a kingdom hall in about 15 years, and the last 8 years of that was sporadic at best.. why should i talk to people i did not invite to my home, when i know they are coming to condemn me?

Hi--3 times this weekend 2 elders came to my door asking for me by name (my kids answered the door). Apparently my JW sister notified the elders about the letter she received from me several months ago and gave them my new address. My letter was very clear about how I felt about the Watchtower Society and I have not stepped foot in a Kingdom Hall in about 15 years, and the last 8 years of that was sporadic at best.
Why should I talk to people I did not invite to my home, when I know they are coming to condemn me? And I already wrote a letter addressed to a Hall in Northern California which I copied my JW sister on. The letter clearly stated that I was attending a new church and that I pretty much felt the Watchtower Society was a destructive cult that broke up families.
Why do they have to question me face-to-face on my beliefs when it's pretty clear I am no longer interested in their religion? Is it just because they get off in attempting to make people feel bad & guilty, or is it a legal issue about clearly identifying me in person so they can disfellowship me? The letter I mailed to the hall in northern California was returned to me, the letter was marked that there was no mail receptacle there so I had the correct address. My sister received a copy of the letter however and apparently shared it with everyone.
I really could care less if they make an announcement about me after all these years, as I have nothing to lose. My JW sister no longer speaks to me because of my letter.
Am I showing them that I'm afraid by avoiding them? It's more a matter that I feel very emotional and angry about the whole JW religion, and I'm not afraid of the elders so much as what my response might be. I'm more worried they would get the wrong impression of me if I get all emotional and angry, I am very happy with my life and I don't want them thinking I'm a whacko apostate.
Any comments or suggestions?

Least Favourite Thing Your Pet Does
by Stephanus inwe've learned to frisk our cats before they come in, esp.
at night.
they have a thing for bringing home their live catches to play with.. also, when they get all smoochy.

The latest thing my 6 month old kitty, Duncan, does--he follows us and sneaks into whatever we are doing without being noticed. Once he got shut in the refrigerator, once he got shut in the dishwasher, once he was shut up in our cereal/food cupboard, and a few days ago he was shut out on the back patio for several hours before we realized it. He is practically mute, his meow is a teeny tiny little cry--so he is difficult to find because his meow is so quiet!

What do you do with your time???
by nonamegiven inwell, now that you are out of the organization, what do you do with the time you gained?
let's see how much time we gained.. assuming you were a publisher you spend at least 2 hours in service 3 saturdays a month plus the service meeting and drive time to and from the kh, let's call that 10 hours a month.. 5 meetings a week plus "fellowshipping" before, after and drive time, let's call that another 40 hours a month.. then there was meeting prep.
another 8 hours a month.

Anything I feel like!!!
I love making new friends with people I work with or whatever, and I don't have that stupid influence anymore that nonJWs are evil & worldly. Also--whatever I spend my time doing, I don't have to sit through stupid meetings telling me I shouldn't be enjoying spending my weekends doing fun recreation that I deserve to enjoy with my family.

Sorry for what you're going through, sounds like you got fed up and couldn't take it any more.
I sent a rather mean letter to my JW sister several months ago, stating exactly how I feel about the JW religion and that she is mentally ill; I was at a point where I needed to get her off my back on several issues, but I still feel bad that I had to be so harsh to get her to leave me alone. It's funny though, my other siblings (not JWs) and I have been waiting for her to do something really spiteful or nasty because that's part of her loving JW personality, and I hate that foreboding feeling of wondering when she is going to try to avenge her anger on me.
