Contact from my JW brother-in-law

after my wedding i sent out an email to every non-witness i know and jw parents and a couple of siblings; the first group to stay in touch with old mates or turn near-strangers into friends in a time of needing them; the jw family group so that they'd know what's going on in our lives and how the wedding etc went and partly because i didn't want to be 'shunning' them; i wanted to be the one showing love and making an effort to maintain contact.

i sent another out recently, i figure i'll make it a biannual report on the life and times of the frass family.

it's nothing at all controversial, just a 'what we're up to' email.

So sorry for what you're going through. I think I agree with Lisa that you should do a 'reply to all' so everyone can see the unkind response you received from your loving JW relatives. I remember when I was disfellowshipped and my sister began shunning me, how angry my non JW relatives and family were--it caused quite a commotion and it ended up showing people how unChristian the JWs are. My aunt was so upset that whenever the JWs would knock on her door--she would yell at them and literally run them off her property and tell them that they were ruining our family relationships.

Anyone Feel This Way?

i am married to a christian who believes that anytime now true believers in christ will be raptured up to heaven; every time the news shows things going on in the middle east my husband gets all excited and talks about how he doesn't want to be left behind.

after being involved for years in the jdubs and having nightmares of armageddon and all that, i feel happy just living my day-to-day existence and not worrying about my 'afterlife'.. in fact, i could care less about the afterlife and whether i go to heaven or hell; partly because no one really knows what's going to happen to me when i die.

the only thing i care about in my life is being a good mom to my kids, nothing else matters to me besides enjoying each day i have here right now on this earth--enjoying time with friends and family, vacations to disneyland, visiting the ocean or the snow.. i feel annoyed when my spouse starts talking about his beliefs, because i just feel so ambivilent toward the future.

KidA--part of the problem is my husband really didn't bring up his beliefs until after we got married. I knew he believed in God and hadn't been to a church in a while, but anyway I guess I should have spent more time asking questions about his beliefs.

I just needed to vent. I wish my husband would spend more time (mentally) in the present rather than obsessing over his fear of going to hell if he doesn't watch out.

I haven't listened to all of it because I'm at work, but WOW! My eyes have soooooo been opened since I started coming to this site. What you did is awesome and I pray it opens up other people's eyes. It's really sad to see so many people being misled 'like a sheep to a slaughter' by this evil religious cult!

It took me years, but I feel very much at peace with myself now and have healthy self-esteem. I suffered for years from severe depression and low self-esteem, in part due to all the guilt-bashing at the Kingdumb Hell.

I feel sooooooooo relieved that I'm not wasting the rest of my life waiting for the big A to happen.

here is a little background about myself.

my mother raised me and my siblings in the jw faith.

however, my father was not a witness and opposed a lot of the beliefs so you can imagine how our life was.

Do you really care what those quacks think of you? There is nothing you can do about it. I was reinstated and then faded, but any JWs who see me out in public are still shunning me and pretend they don't know me.

(they even gave me back to password i had completly forgot.

Telling a Friend I Don't Want to Go to Meetings Anymore

i have a very close friend, who has been a mentor to me for years, who has never judged me in spite of things i've been through.

she is nearly 35 years older than me but we have a kindred spirit.

she is a very devout jw and i believe she always will be.

It's hard to lose close friendships, I lost my best friend from high school when I left the JWs'. But in the long run it was best for me not to be around witnesses because I don't want to be 'encouraged' to come back and all that mess. I think if you want to lie low, you should keep using the 'sick' excuse--that's how I faded.

I hope you meet new friends and have a good support system for what you're going through. Maybe some counseling is in order, to help deal with the 'coming out of a cult' issues.

Need marriage help

i am reposting the major part of another thread "need computer help" because i am really looking for advice a situation with my husband.

i need to know if i am crazy to be worried.

so here it is.... ok, since i seem to be getting responses from guys and there's no way anyone i know will see this,i will tell you the story.

I have been married for less than 3 years, and it took me almost a year to find out that my new spouse is addicted to pornography. It almost cost us our marriage because he tried to blame it on our teenage kids (the history on the computer showed all the sites he had been visiting). When I found out MY visa card in my name had been used on the internet to pay for some kind of subscription, I knew it wasn't the kids. Anyway, to make a long story short, I found out he had been terribly abused by a relative when he was growing up and had never told anyone. He has been through some therapy and is hopefully getting better. I am not a prude and didn't have a problem with the pornography so much as the dishonesty--it really pissed me off and I almost left him. I think what upset me about the whole thing besides the dishonesty, was the lack of sex in our marriage on top of his addiction to porn.

Anyway, I'm hoping our marriage works out but I am frustrated to be married to a person with an addictive personality.

I hope everything works out for you. Marriage is hard work.
