JW attitude toward death
by love2Bworldly ini was just remembering how when i lost my non-jw brother when i was a teenager, that my witness friends were not very supportive when he died.
he died in his sleep at age 22, and he was a very nice person.
i remember crying at school and my jw friends were like, oh brother it's already been a week!

Then the Watchtower had articles years later about how it was ok to grieve a lost loved one, and that some people take longer than others to heal. That pissed me off, because I thought to myself--why do I need the Watchtower to tell me how long I have permission to grieve for a lost loved one?

Not good, not good at all
by lola28 inhi guys,.
sorry to burden you all with this but i really have no one that i want to talk about this with, i'm afraid that i will burst into tears and wont be able to stop if i call any of my friends and tell them what's going on.
my little sister has been ill with a fever for three weeks, her doctor kept telling her it was just a bad case of the flu and that she had an ear infection, he gave her antibiotics and sent her home.

The Watchtower Society—a Woman's Perspective
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #b450ab; } .style2 { font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; } --> the watchtower societya woman's perspective often times, i wondered how the sisters viewed the organization.. there will be two or three inquiries regarding this discussion so.
any information regarding it would be appreciated.. the way the sisters dressed according to the way the society viewed women what did you.
think about there standards regarding the dress code?.

Women's Dress: what really annoyed me is that I couldn't wear a split skirt (skort is another word)--I had some nice outfits for work that had matching jackets and were dressy. Then one time I met 2 girls from Ireland who told me they wore jeans out in service! I couldn't believe it. Gouchos (long split skirt, like loose long shorts but dressier) were a no no also.
As far as the way women were treated--I knew some teenage JW girls who weren't allowed to ride horses because you know, they might break their cherry! Spare me!

The Great Taboo Discussion---Suicides among former Jehovah's Witnesses

ies that have happened to individuals on this board.
(what inspired me to write this subject was a bone chilling account .

I urge people out there who are suffering from depression to please get help, because people who know you--including on this board would miss you!
I have suffered from depression since I was a small child, and am now in my forties--I have found that if I stay on my anti-depressant I feel like a normal person emotionally; when I don't take any medication, it feels like anytime I am under stress about anything--that I am overwhelmed and can't cope, and am going to have a nervous breakdown. Life is full of ups and downs, and people who suffer from depression have a much more difficult time coping with stress.
I had no idea that suicide was this common among JWs but it doesn't surprise me. It's a religion that basically teaches you are dirt and can never be good enough.

I think different people need different paths for their own healing. I've gotten on with my life, but enjoy coming to this site and reading and learning and trying to encourage people who are having a hard time after leaving the JWs.
I know what you mean about support groups though. I was encouraged to go to WEAVE meetings years ago when I divorced my first husband (or maybe I had to go to get help filing a restraining order I don't remember) he was controlling and abusive--but not to the point where he hit me because I left him before he got to that point. When I attended a couple of meetings, I was very overwhelmed by some of the ladies in the group because some of them were going through getting beatings and having their children beaten and I felt extremely depressed by it and couldn't handle having to hear their stories. I stopped going after the second meeting--but that doesn't mean that some people weren't getting a lot out of going to these group sessions because they needed it.
Then I was encouraged to join a support group for Al-Anon, because I seem to have issues with co-dependency. The same thing happened to me at these meetings as the WEAVE meetings, there were people who were dealing with very severe situations and it was very depressing, and since I wasn't with my alcoholic/pothead spouse anymore--I didn't see the point in going to these meetings.
