Right ON, Gary! The hard core dubs have a "reality filter" securely installed in both ears and wear special glasses that block out all evidence that the WTBTS is wrong about anything. I nearly fell over one day when I tried to talk to a friend about the endless filp flopping of the 1914 doctrine and she just got this sicky-sweet condescending look on her face and said "Jehovah is merely testing Us!"
That's their world and they're welcome to it!!! -

Are You For or Against The Death Penalty?
by minimus inpersonally, i have nothing against executing wanton murderers.

Anytime an animal predator of any significant size has wandered into a residential area anywhere I've lived the game department sends out a phalanx of sharpshooters and helicopters and gets rid of the menace to the neighborhood.
In human society we have far more dangerous predators freely wandering our streets hiding in plain sight. I'm for the death penalty if the evidence is irrefutable..ie: "the smoking gun" thing,..... irrefutable evidence beyond a reasonable doubt.
Some time ago I read an interesting article on this subject involving the actor Scott Glenn when he was researching his role for the part he played as an FBI agent in the horrific movie "Silence of the Lambs" Part of his preparation for this role involved several weeks of exposure to what crime fighters have to deal with.
The people at FBI headquarters took him down into their file room and let him listen to the tapes two monsters made of the unspeakable things they did to two teenage girls in the desert somewhere in the Southwest USA. He said before this incident he was very much against the death penalty......he walked out of there with a different opinion.
The public usually never knows the full details of these crimes, by the time the criminal appears in court both he and the story have been sanitized for public consumption. It's a tangled subject, no doubt..one with many unpleasant feelings of revulsion on both sides of the issue. -

The Jehovah's Witnesses Reformation Movement
by Kenneson ini made an interesting find last evening.
i stumbled across a site purporting to be a jehovah's witness reform movement.
while it sees value in jehovah's witnesses, its primary purpose is to reform the governing body.

...RIGHT ON. I have come to absolutely loathe organized religion. It never fails to DE-volve into some cheesy people bashing scam.
The one thing I do see in this reform movement, which will probably be short-lived is that someone is taking the time to address the strangle hold of the GB from a different perspective than the anti-jw discussion boards and I say the more flak heading for the fan the better! -

Another marriage bites the dust because of JW beliefs
by unbeliever ini know very few people who have been successfully married where 1 spouse is a witness and the other is not.
i know there are a few examples on this board.. a couple that i know irl have split after nearly 25 years of marriage because of the stupid shunning shit.
one of their 3 children got df'd 6 months ago and that is when everything fell apart apparently.

Sorry to read all these sad stories but I just don't get the jw BS anymore. I knew women in the religion who had it so good, never had to work, never had to lift a finger to do anything they didn't want to while their non-witness husbands kept them in style. I never understood what the problem was with these "house plants"as I called them.
A woman I knew only in passing lost her husband in an accident and at the age of 54 was left with a fortune and hadn't the faintest clue how to write a cheque. Her male relatives had to do everything for her. All we heard was "poor me""...pardon me while I puke.
My witness brother's first wife never even cooked a meal or cleaned the house. When they had a kid that kid ran around the house in the dead of winter in nothing but a soggy wet diaper. I saw it, I was also there when my brother asked her quietly so I wouldn't hear "Did you feed the baby today?" I saw all kinds of weird twisted BS in that marriage and my brother treated this horsefaced, unhygenic slag of a woman like a queen. She left him for a pervert
janitor in the building where she worked,(her idea). All the while she had been seeing this wierdo behind my brother's back she was calling ME names for leaving the religion and my abusive witness husband.
Your witness wife puts the Borg before you? She's just told you all you need to know. That isn't a woman guys, that's a freeloader, an albatross, a house plant waiting for you to feed and water her and take whatever you can offer. She wants to leave you because you aren't a witness?...help her pack. Tell her Santa Claus is dead. The Salvation Army just left town on the Goodwill Caravan. End of story. -

Marriage Proposal: See Publisher Record Card First?
by Englishman inask to see your intended one's publisher record card before asking for their hand in marriage?.
as a younger man, i was counselled by our co and his wife that such a thing was an essential act before agreeing to becoming engaged to marry anyone.. i was actually engaged at the time.
the co told me that i had made a mistake in not checking out the sister's record card before becoming betrothed.

how do JWs justify having children "in the last days?"
by kid-A inin the years leading up to 1975, there was an implicit (if not explicit) discouragement of having children given the proximity of armageddon.
for the most part, this seemed to have been ignored.
my jw grandma now has great-great grandchildren.

The WTBTS has always put forth these outrageous demands quoting scriptures and pontificating at their altar of phoney "specialness". For some reason entire cadres of young married people in the Halls I went to ignored these tirades and merrily went ahead and had as many kids as they pleased. I saw large families of four and five kids and this was in the '60s and '70s. Don't know why we never seemed to hear that part of the du(m)b message at all. I had two kids myself.
I do recall some of the older "childless by choice" couples saying they wished they had gone ahead and had children instead of listening to the org. Very sad. Some of these women would hold your kids at the meetings and you could see the regret on their faces. I had a couple of these older ones ask if they could put their hand on my abdomen to feel the baby move during my pregnancies. Now that I know more about this problem I feel very sad for anyone who followed this insane, cruel and invasive rubbish!
This religion goes deep into private lives like Gestapo in jack boots. There's no regard for the individual, no thought for the eventual great harm done to good and honest people who believed the lies and manipulation and ultimatly sacrificed their financial and emotional security. It's just one evil demand upon another then when you're used up you get chucked aside like yesterday's trash. And they have the gall to tell the followers who gave up their right to have children that this was THEIR problem and no one told them to do this?!?!?!? Give me a break! -

Does anyone see the comparison?
by Frannie Banannie innow....while i'm not well-versed in scientific or biological knowledge, i just know i've seen on tv, heard or read somewhere about living organisms that become diseased or undergo starvation.
it's been shown that they begin to devour themselves.
and it's fatal.

I remember a time when no one gave a thought to all the early stuff the org. beleived in, and if you asked about it you were smoothly diverted to another subject all together. I am still sorting out what I've learned here and on other related links and can't believe what was right there under my nose for so long the whole time I was a dub.
The spiritistic stuff relating to the org,s one time belief in the great pyramid just blew me away. Especially with all the information out there about the Masons and other secret society groups with the exact same pyramidology and the One(? New) World Order concept. It's too spooky for words.
You are so right Franny about the evil that this organization does in the name of God. I saw it first hand and was a victim of slander as well as wrongful shunning.. This religion is ALL about power and all about power in the hands of pathetic, narrow-minded cretins with no training, no education and no spiritual credentials whatsoever who enjoy lording it over the rest. I was never very impressed with most of the people who took the lead in any KH I attended, and when I moved to the town I now live in I was shocked at the low characters of my so-called "brothers and sisters". Cruel and stupid were words that aptly described a great many of them. I had a sickening premonition that I had wandered into the" Twilight Zone" ............and one day I WAS starring in my very own episode!
I feel confident however that people are starting to wake up. They can only sweep so much dirt under their ratty carpets and right now they are standing on a volcano of shite that's fixin' to blow. I believe also that this false religion IS feeding off itself already...the constant rehash and harsh rules hammered home meeting after meeting while the good people amomg them quietly give up and steal away. Can't end too soon for me!!!! -

grissom-Introduce yourself!
by Sparkplug ini know that you are new here, but have left yourself open to some comments.
i have been curious as to why you post.
do you have doubts?

Hi and welcome Kid!!! Very sensible and thoughtful comments. As I've said before on another thread..you can always tell a JW rank and file type poster by their shallow thought patterns, accusatory tone, insensitivity to others and lack of intellectual depth. It's like they read from a script the way they parrot the rehashed and desperately anemic drivel that is supposed to be "spiritual food" at their meetings.
This is a hallmark of the cult mind-set but people like Grissom think they are filled with true enlightenment and that the org. is a bastion of Biblical research and scholastic endeavour, because the FDS tells them so. He may wake up one day to find just like we did that he has been starring in the Watchtower society's diabolical version of "The Truman Show".
