I think there was someone in my first congo that died from drinking too much water. It happened after I'd moved so I don't know all the details. Very sad. You can overdo just about anything.

Did you ever get one of these?
by purplesofa ini was looking for something today and ran across this list.
a po passed these out in service meeting....many years ago.

Yuck. I don't remember getting anything like this but maybe I'm blocking. Many of the items on that list look so very familiar. I'm sure we heard many of these things from the platform at various times.
Gives me a stomach ache just reading that muck.

Jehovahs witness men who trade old wives in for new....
by candidlynuts inhow prevalent was this in your area?
jw man in good standing, elders, ministerial servants, all levels, i have seen them trade off their old wife and marry a younger woman.
they might get df'd for a year or so but eventually return and get all their priveleges back , only difference is they have a new woman on their arm.. the old wife usually has to move to another kingdom hall or accept the new couple being in her face all the time.

This sort of thing happens all over. The JWs like to think that they are different but they aren't. They reflect pretty much what is going on in the "world", they just like to pretend that they are more holy.

Do You Get Any Pleasure Out of the Holidays Since Leaving the Watchtower?
by jayhawk1 inyesterday was my crappy birthday, http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/20/127389/1.ashx and while the evening went along, i realized something.
i've been out of the watchtower for about 6 years now and i still don't enjoy the holidays or my birthday.
i can't recall one time saying to myself, "wow, that was so much fun.
-

I'm still figuring this out, jayhawk. I don't bother with my birthday...although, if I made an effort, I probably would enjoy going out with friends or something. I'll have to think about it for next year.
I, too, was fed up with most holidays by the time I became a dub in my late twenties. Not the doing stuff for my kids, that was fun...it was the expectations or what I thought the expectations were from the rest of my family. Becoming a dub and having an excuse not to participate was a relief in many ways. I do get a bit stressed even now. I can't afford to buy lots of gifts and doesn't it seem kind of silly to exchange gift cards with people? I don't know. Maybe I need to look into making stuff or just sending little ornaments out. Its a puzzle.
We always go out for Thanksgiving. My parents started it and I think it was a smart idea on my mother's part. Cooking like a fool for days is exhausting. Its actually quite fun to go out to dinner, everybody can order what they like, it lasts a couple of hours, and you're done. lol My son and I went to see a movie after dinner too...it was an enjoyable afternoon. This Christmas, I cooked. It was kind of a lot of work and rather expensive for a 45min meal for two. I enjoyed decorating a bit and having my son come over for dinner but I need to think about what I want to do for next year. I don't want these holiday things to turn into an ordeal again.
At any rate, I'm feeling my way these days. I didn't grow up a JW, so I do have fond memories of holidays from when I was a kid. I think that's what a lot of people try to recapture, the feeling of anticipation and magic from when they were children. If you grew up a witness and never celebrated, I think its more difficult to enter into the spirit of it (unless you have young children. There's something about seeing your kids' faces light up that makes the whole thing very special).
Its mostly deciding what you are happy doing...or even not doing.

What really made you exit the Jw's
by KAYTEE ini know its a question that has been asked a thousand times, but what really made you exit the jws .. for instance, my wife and i, having found out about the u.n., 607bce, failed prophecies etc.
gave all this information to my wifes brother, along with many so called friends.
we came out but the brother and friends stayed in.. the only reasoning i can put on it, is that we made an effort to find out for ourselves what was the real truth, the others were told and given written evidence - but still didnt make a decision.

I was finding it harder and harder to do all the dull, repetitive things we were required to do. The meetings had long been boring and devoid of anything interesting...I'd heard it all a million times it seemed. Plus it was very difficult working a full time job and trying to make all the meetings, let alone service.
When the 1914 generation change came along, I was really disillusioned and confused. I hung around for another five years but my heart wasn't really in it any more.
I finally started noticing that the Watchtower more and more seemed to hint at what they wanted us peons to do but then back away from it in later paragraphs. It became obvious that they were covering their asses and giving themselves a way out if the stupid R & F followed their strictures and then had problems or if governments didn't approve of a certain stance (like the blood issue). They could claim that it wasn't them...that anything a JW did was an individual decision and not based or direction from the WTS. Rather dishonest and disingenuous, I thought.
I'd also experienced the truth of trying to bring up two kids in this religion. I found that strictly adhering to the advice in the Watchtower or from the platform had created nothing but problems. When my sons got in trouble, there was little support. I discovered first hand how putting restrictions on them and marking them as bad associates did nothing to help the situation. They felt completely isolated...they weren't supposed to hang with "worldly" kids, but few of the witness kids wanted to treat them as friends either. Now, how is that supposed to make young people want to get baptised exactly? It was stupid and cruel. It also made me see what a poor idea disfellowshipping was. It wasn't about personal spiritual growth and maturity, it was about forcing people to comply with the group.
When I started fading, it wasn't a conscious decision. I didn't plan to leave the JWs exactly, I just didn't have the heart to keep on trying. I was in a depression so vast that I had to make a change. It had nothing to do with the internet or "apostates" ...I was just dissatisfied, unhappy and I knew something was wrong.

Awake 2006 - More emphasis on the Bible? You decide
by truthseeker init's been a year since the awake went to a monthly edition.. have you noticed more emphasis on the bible?.
http://www.watchtower.org/e/medical_care_and_blood.htm.
cross-country skiingis it for you?.

I used to sort of like the Awake! because it didn't have more emphasis on biblical topics. It had sort of a 1950's vibe to it...you know, Isn't Cocoa Yummy and Monkeys, They're So Funny! type articles that were light on facts but made you feel like this is what you'd have to look forward to in the sunny New System. See? Life wouldn't be boring at all...we'd enjoy chocolate, panama hats, cooking colorful ethnic dishes and square dancing, just as though 6 billion people hadn't just been slaughtered...well, we just won't think about that. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts.... anyone for another cup of hot chocolate and a round of kumbaya?
Even articles like that one on chemicals were geared to make you happy that soon this old, polluted world would be "fixed" by Jah and we would no longer have to worry our little heads about such things. Pleasantville, here we come!

I'd say that they've shot themselves in the foot with this garbage but the WTS always seems to be able to reverse, amend, adjust and completely scrap key doctrines or predictions and still carry on. They've done it over and over and over.
People always think that its different for them in the now. They presume that witnesses in the past were just simple folk who misinterrpreted the "signs" or were giddy fools who "jumped ahead" or it was all a test to "cleanse the org" ...well, obviously it had to be something like that, since what the oldtimers expected didn't occur. But now...oh, yeah, its all different. This time its for real. They can almost smell it in the air and taste it on their tongues. Paradise is coming, baby!
Those that need to believe that they are the special chosen who will inherit an earth where all the "bad" people have been made to go away and they, the savvy, faithful and true, will live forever and ever and ever, will swallow just about anything to keep that fantasy alive.
Its all so very sad.

So this is it, eh? The Big A could happen anytime now. Ooooooo, I'm so scared. ...and when ten more years roll on by, and nothing happens, again, the WTS will say they never actually told people Armegeddon was commin'....they just said that a scripture had been fulfilled and all the crazy people just jumped to their own conclusions. Hey, its always worked before.

They have a television show sort of like this here (in U.S.). Its where someone who suspects their significant other of cheating signs up to have these tv people follow the suspected cheater around, filming their activity, sort of like a video private eye. Then, if they film proof of naughty activity, they all confront the cheater on television.
I've only watched it on rare occassions and usually just because I'm channel surfing. I don't look for the show as it always makes me uncomfortable. The one cheated on is hurt and sometimes devastated and the cheater...well, I don't care how they feel much as I think they are often jerks...but this whole Jerry Springer way of handling personal business is more than a little demeaning to everyone involved.
Can't comment on this radio break-up because I can't listen to it at work here. I'll check it out when I get home.
