  Memories of Excessive Laughter

  jw's are not known for laughter.

  there are the rare exceptions.

  they are more known for their fear mongering and doomsday scenarios where "the dead shall come to be as manure on the surface of the ground from one end of the earth clear to the other".

  As a ubm I can tell you that once you join the cult much joy and laughter will in fact leave your life as well as those around you. Some things that were previously funny to my jw (pre jw) days now must first be thought out if they are against jw rules somehow, then you can decide if it is funny enough to laugh or not. Well, by that time the joke is gone.

  We (all non jw family, never been and he is the only jw anyone actually knows) however find many things to secretly giggle about or laugh later when he isn't around. Such as when he lets swear words fly, when he mistakenly does laugh at something that might be not quite jw approved or when he is a total hypocrite (as jw's are prone to) and the list goes on....

  Tis the season

  seems like i just pop in here every now and then to see what everyone is up to.

  just like the previous years, i check in during the holidays to let everyone know about the annual christmas card exchange.. blondie used to lead this several years ago and i was involved for about 3 to 4 years before it began to fall off.

  for those of you who participated back then, i still have your addresses and have just sent off this year's christmas cards to everyone.

  2024 year Highlights: JWs hit 9 million Publishers

  watchtower put out some highlights for the 2024 service year:.

  average publishers: 8,828,124. peak publishers: 9,043,460. a 43.2 percent increase in "those who returned to jehovah", meaning 65,816 were reinstated.

  baptized: 296,267. memorial attendance: 21,119,442. missing stat: number of partakers .. womp womp.

  Why do most Ex jW W‘s seem to be liberal?

  i’m just curious about this dynamic i don’t care personally one way or the other but i do have friends who have chosen to be conservatives and they get totally destroyed on social media pages for their choice.

  it’s almost like a lot of ex jw w become as toxic and his judgmental as jehovah’s witnesses themselves what’s up with that?

  i also know conservative ex jw’s that can do the same so again i’m not leaning one way or the other i’m just noticing factual observations.

  As a UBM, I have noticed that my jw who is not supposed to be 'political' is probably the most political person I know! If he could, he would be a raving lunatic liberal. No, he was not always like this, this came with jw-ism. To be fair there are some issues he would be a staunch conservative but then on others he is way on the left. So weird to me, I just say; "wow, I didn't know you were so political" which luckily for me ends any rant, rave or foolish discussion. Yeah, I know I am a bit of a witch to use their own doctrines against them but heck, then I can chuckle to myself the rest of the night. We all need our little amusements.

  Historian and former JW Jim Penton dies

  i don’t know a lot about james penton but i think he deserves a better thread than the one currently on offer.

  james penton, who died recently, grew up in a jw family in canada and served as an elder.

  unusually for a jw, he studied liberal arts at university and became a history professor.

  I remember, I got his book not knowing anything whatsoever about jw's. It was a bit hard to follow in the beginning thought it was my own lack of knowledge to begin with. I was in a really bad place as a new ubm so everything was pretty scary. I came to highly respect him as I learned more. In my limited knowledge I believe he has contributed greatly to the ex jw world.

  Loss of a Jehovah’s Witness who I considered a friend

  i have known a jehovah’s witness for approximately 15 years and i have considered her a friend although i know that jehovah’s witnesses cannot have friends who are not jehovah’s witnesses.

  approximately two years ago, i was going through a very difficult time and i asked my friend if we could have bible study.

  she said yes and we have been studying the bible since.

  think about it: they had to go out and buy halloween paraphernalia, then apply makeup & costumes to dress the 'brothers & sisters' up as vampires, witches, mummies etc.

  and you know they were probably joking around the whole time.

  what a bunch of hypocrites, the last gen gb would be turning in their graves to see such a photoshoot at the 'house of god' 😆.

  My jw borrowed a movie pre jw days and the very next year (he joined the cult in that year) me & kids were watching the next movie in series and he was "so disappointed, did we really have to watch it?" me- "Hell yes, we had to see how it came out in the end! Thanks for turning us onto the series!" He must have shook his head in disgust the entire way to his meeting. We just giggled all the more because of it
