Tell us your strangest, weirdest, funniest encounters going D2D

if you where a brave little witness soldier, or even a pioneer (gasp), you must have seen a lot of strange shit.

the probability of encountering "interesting" people or getting yourself into weird situations is pretty high.. i'll start.

i have to get them together, but today i remembered this ones:.

A brother and I were working a two story L-shaped apartment complex one morning. We started at one end on the first floor and on the second door a man with bugged out eyes opened the door and said loudly "WHAT?" As my partner began his presentation, I noticed behind him there was no furniture in the living room, but there were several stands of wire stung across the room and these had papers clipped to them with clothespins. (The guy acted and looked similar to the professor on Back to the Future)

As soon as my partner had mentioned the word "God", the man interrupted and said with great emphasis "God! the Omnipotent, The King of Kings, The Most powerful, Invisible, Creator, Divine, The Source, All Powerful........................"

As he continued mentioning words or phrases that he associated with God, we slowly stepped back and made our way to the second floor. On the first door there we were invited in and we went in and talked to that family for about 20 minutes.

As we left that apartment my partner said "Hey Listen, he is still at it!" The guy was still there repeating some of the same words that he was saying when we knocked on his door. We found a different staircase and left that facility as quickly as we could. Needless to say, we did not put him down as a return visit

smaller wt magazines

i made a tiny comment about the smaller and poorer quality of the wt magazines to my wife (in) she retorted "thats because they are using the internet.!".

it was not her words and her reply was almost rehearsed no doubt learned at the ms.. pretty good given the wts warnings against all things internet until relatively recently..

People will do things they otherwise wouldn't when money becomes tight. The Society knows that the the younger generations are relying on the phyical printed page less and less and if they want to remain relevant, they have to go with the flow.

How many people have you helped/facilitated to leave JWs?

if we all snatch one person from the borg, will our numbers grow exponentially?

i'm no mathematician.. how many have you personally helped?.

Four as far as I know. My two daughters and a daughter and son-in law of a friend. I have also helped about 5 folks from ever becoming entagled with the Society at all. I did that by feeding them questions to ask the ones they were studying with. One of them told me that as soon as he told his study conductor that he was talking to an ex-Witness, the man never showed up again for another session. He said "The dude never called or left a note telling me that he was no longer going to conduct a stufy with me. He just stopped showing up on Friday evenings."

It is amazing how something that is supposed to just make you sleep can have such bizarre and sometimes adverse reactions. LSD should be envious!

i'm trying to figure it out.

if we are just dead then there is no point to anything i do.

i'd like to hope our energy goes somewhere... but, i'd like to examine what somebody presents as proof....

As much as I would like to believe that some portion of my essence goes on after I pass beyond the veil, I have not come across anything that convinces me that we do anything other than just cease to exist.

Finally I was having an anointed moment. I looked up and saw Jesus on his throne saying "My dear Ray, I am coming soon. Yes soon I am coming and I will be coming quickly so be prepared."

It was so vivid and real. Then I felt the room shaking as if in response to what our dear Lord had just declared to me. The shaking got more and more intense until I heard another voice that was quiet at first but slowly getting louder.

I can hear my name but not much else. At least not yet. There it is again and it's becoming more audible! Wait! I can hear it now. This is so exciting!

Then the shaking becomes more intense and now I can clearly hear the proclaiming voice now. It's a female voice and she's says "Ray, Ray, wake up!! You are having an allergic reaction to the Lunestra! And why did you respond to me with 'Yes Lord?'"

After all this time thinking I was heaven bound and now I discovered I just have the earthly hope now.

The decline and fall of the Watchtower empire..........

charisma can work wonders.. it can be both entertaining or maddening to large crowds of eager listeners.. whole populations can be swayed by a silver tongue or mad ranting poison-sac attached to a man leading a movement.. .

the history of the watchtower society proves this.. leadership is tricky and movements are volatile.

The antidote to the myth that JWs are declining

one of the most persistent myths on this website is that jws are already in decline, the rot has set in, and the descent of the watchtower is inevitable from here on in.

unfortunately the facts do not bear this out.

jws are still increasing even in most developing countries, and they are still growing worldwide at a faster rate than the general population.

Great post Terry as usual. Your line "As Franz grew more senile and began having conversations with his own shoes" really gave me a good laugh for the day.

I agree with your accessment. While the JW's may still be increasing in numbers, the ones today do not have the zeal and confidence they had 20 years ago. They just go through the motions and hope that at least something the F&DS says actually comes to pass.

Funny experiences while a JW

do any of you have any funny experiences while you were part of the jw machine?

back around 1986 i was the ministerial servant in charge of running the sound board in the kingdom hall for our congregation.

we were the last ones to meet in the hall on weekdays (friday) and the first ones to meet on sunday.

Another funny incident in my congregation occured when two sisters were demonstrating how to overcome objections at the door. The younger of the two walked in from the left side of the stage while carrying a microphone when the cord got caught in a chair and it jerked her arm back. She blurted out "Well Hell!" which was followed by a brief pause and then quickly added "is the common grave of all mankind."

This was followed by laughter as well as several people clapping for the quick recovery.
