If I was there I would give you a big hug.
I'm sure you have done the right thing, you don't need those negative influances in your life, especially when you are recovering from an addiction.
Time to move on and put her behind you I think.

What do you do in your spare time?
by EvilForce ini have been here for almost 3 months now and was curious what ya'll did for fun outside of jwd.com.
right now because it's summer and it's too hot i don't do much glassblowing.
but that is where i spend most of my weekends when i'm not working.

I love watching glass blowing, I've never tried it myself but I used to live in Venice and would often get the vappareto over to Murano and watch the glass blowers, I own quite a bit of glass, its beautiful.
In my spare time I like to sit and do nothing, perhaps with a good book or DVD.
Sometimes on a more energetic day I might go skating but as I don't live near an ice rink its not very often these days.

How much whiskey do you consume in a given day?
by IronGland inwould you consider 1 flask+1 bottle red wine per day too much?
assuming no obvious ill effects..

If your friend is drinking alcohol every day then its a habit / addiction, he should get help to stop before the negative side effects set in.

After 30 years my mother now has doubts!!
by diamondblue1974 ini have just finished an incredibly long conversation with my mother which was tense in parts and hard going but i feel as though i have made a break-through; i was incredibly delicate in my approach given her 30 years inside the borg but again i think i have made some headway.. we covered the un scandal and i asked whether she had heard anything about the wts affiliation with the un as an ngo; she surprisingly had heard nothing about it; i read the guardian articles to her and she was silent....i half expected to hear her hang up the phone but she continued to stay on.
she tried to justify it initially but slowly i allowed her to reach her own conclusions and she has agreed to let me send the information upto her; i.e the guardian newspaper articles and the ngo press release.. we covered the child abuse policies and lack off protection for children and covered the highly legalistic approach taken in the very little policy they have...which is mainly about self preservation.
i asked her whether she knew that the society in the us are being sued by a number of different people for the organisations failure to protect children from abuse and i asked if i could get the proof without using 'apostate' sources, i.e primary sources such as court judgements etc, would she accept the information?

Thats really great, I'm glad your conversation was a success, lets just hope she thinks about what you've said and takes notice.
It must be the solicitor in you, giving you the gift of the gab because thats quite remarkable actually, well done!

needs some opinions & advices
by cookiegirlie ini've read some posts here and i could see that you were helping each other so i thought i could post & maybe get some answers :-).
i've known the jws since i was little my mom was going to the kingdom hall but then we stopped cos our life was too complicated and we didn't have time for that thought we kept studying at home with a jw as i got older ( teen years ) i hated the study book but never told my mom or anybody i didn't wanted to hurt my mom i love her so much!.
a few years ago i finally told my mom that i hated to read thoses books because i get so bored & that i wasn't interested in it , i do believe in jehovah's and jesus' existence thought but i so hate what the org ask us to do like don't dress like that , go to meetings .... first reaction i got from my mom was so you wanna die but then after a long talk she understood , no matter what i'll love her forever.

I think the first thing you have to realise is that Jehovah's Witnesses don't have the answers, think about it, why would a loving god like the one they claim to worship want to kill you?
And the claim that Jehovah's Witnesses are nice people isn't really true either, ofcourse there are some who are nice but the majority are rude and nasty.
If I where you I'd read a lot more on here, and don't be too hard on yourself, you have no reason to feel guilty for finding the books and studies boring.

JW women focused on appearance!
by Sirona init really gets on my nerves.. jw women used to be always focused, as their number one thing, on appearance.
they could be crap at the rest of the jw stuff, but if they turned up at the meeting dressed nice, thin, long hair, looking nice, all was forgiven.
of course it was because of the misogyny (sp?

Did it ever bother you that Watchtower never did charitible works?
by AK - Jeff ini mean, for forty years believing the witness lie it always made me wonder.. judas was the keeper of the money box - and there are statements that indicated that the apostles thought that wasting money that could be used to aid the poor was sinful - so indications are that the earliest christians were doing charitible works.
of course there are many scriptural passages that encourage that activity among believers.
today all the organization ever does is pay lip service to charity.

Like Misspeaches I believed that the witnesses were always first on the scene, I didn't realise until reading this thread that I'd been lied to yet again.
Still, its no suprise!

What are you all complaining about?
Count yourselves lucky, we are supposed to be in summer here yet parts of Britain have had flash floods this week.
Where I live its been warm but cloudy, but guess what, rain is forecast for the weekend.
I'd love it to be so hot that you need air conditioning.
