The strangest thing about our local needs is the lack thereof. It seems like they dont want to leave the general issues like field service and meeting attendance, and dont want to go into the real problems of our congregation.

Whose been ripped off financially by his JW brother?

i worked for jw doing back breaking work for a while only to be told by another jw that he was ripping me of - he was paying me half the going rate.
i was only 17 and naive didn't know anything about the world of work.

Did you shoot-down Dates with Lame Excuses?
by Dune inthe semester started last week and i was walking to class today and i found this girl that i've known since my freshman year.
anyway, she seems to be very interested in my because she always invites me to parties and outings with her friends.
for the years that i've known her i've been giving her lame excuses as to why i cant go to the movies, restaurants or parties with her.

Anyway, she seems to be VERY interested in my because she always invites me to parties and outings with her friends.For the years that i've known her i've been giving her LAME excuses as to why i cant go to the movies, restaurants or parties with her. Excuses such as "My mother needs help moving furniture" or "I'm too tired". Its kind of funny because everytime she sees me she does the whole process over and over again.
This will be the last year that i'll be a JW anyway, so if the mood strikes me i might go for it with her.
Anyway, I was wondering, did any of you have women (men? both?) give you advances just to offer them lame excuses just cause "My bible trained conscience wont allow me to go out with you" was too cultish?

An apology wont bring back a dead sibling. When you push a people to a certain point they are bound to use tactics that arent "civilized".

What do you think they'd do if I did this at the Memorial?
by jwfacts inthis year was going to be the first time in my life that i did not attend the memorial.
but i just thought of something that i would love to try out for a stir.

I dont think they'll bother stopping you. I remember memorials where mentally-ill witnesses would rush up before the prayer and drink from the wine and eat the bread. It would shock everyone though.

When a fader pretends not to know you in front of JW's

i went back for a visit to my home town a couple of months ago and i visited a lot of old friends.
one was a fader who was a jw but has been out for like 10 years.

I think you should give him a chance. Witnesses and Ex-witnesses have such a unique situation that when things like this happen, you have to step back and realize how stupid all of this is. But yeah, he sounds like he really wants to remain friends so why not? :-d.

Aprocrypha and JWs
by Lilycurly ini made a search but didn't come up with anything specific about what are the views of jws concerning the apocryphal bible books.. from what i know, some man a long time ago (catholic or pagan, but certainly not a jehovah's witness) decided wich books were inspired and wich to dump, and then proceeded to assemble the bible as we know it today.. now i don't want to start a fight about wether or not they would be inspired....but how do the jws explain that they accept this choice made by this particular man (or group??
) do they admit tha the man was inspired?
if they do, then they'd have to admit that god gives his blessing to other religions, and if not, they are missing some books and serious information..... what would my father tell me, if i asked him?

Last year, I had a Proffessor that believed in some of the apocryphal books. We had an argument/debate after a class one day and she tended to stick to the emotional side in keeping the apocryphal books. (The hardwork of the writers, they basically promote unity and basic beliefs).
The only resource i had was something i found in the watchtower library. I just related that the reason they arent included are because the books are full of inconsistencies with the other books of the bible. Also, none of the apocryphal books are quoted in the more or less "acceptable" books of the bible. I also argued that some of the books painted a picture of an effiminate god and a Jesus that wasnt consistent with other bible books (love affair with mary).
Anyway, before anyone tries to attack this, keep in mind that this was a debate that I had almost year ago, if the same thing happened today, i would really care less.

I miss the extra space that the "watching the world" part took up in the older Awakes. That was the best part of the awake as a kid (screw Young people ask) and since then, i've always turned to the end of the magazine first.
