By the way, attendance fluctuated wildly. 8200 attended on Friday, 10,000+ on Sunday.
But on Friday, 400 or so left after the morning. Sunday afternoon's attendance was down 700 from the morning. Perhaps a reaction to the Timothy drama?

Goodness no, the author of those snippets is as thoroughly indocrinated as possible.
He sends these e-mails, very long ones, to friends & family in an effort to upbuild & happify them. The original e-mails are quite long & rather boring, filled with condensations of points learned in their class.
One of his contacts then forwards the e-mail to a bunch of other people, including me. I then skim thru the e-mail, weeding out stuff that is the same as a typical WT article, and just look for "interesting" points. I find these points particularly interesting because the instructors at Gilead are Bethel "heavies", including GB members, and their comments reflect the current thinking of the leadership. Many of these points you will never see in print (imagine trying to place a Watchtower that promises that Armageddon survivors will get the pick of the "physical spoils" of deceased persons from that battle).
None of these folks have any idea that I post here.

the world powers in daniel.
there was a thread somewhere about how the society "picked and chose" the empires they wanted to include to make the prophecy about the statue in daniel make sense.. the thread i am thinking of (or maybe it was a link to another website) gave a list of all kinds of other empires that were around before, after, and in-between the other world powers.. does anyone recall this or am i on crack?.
As I recall, the Society gets around this by saying that the 7 world powers were the ones that "had a direct impact on large numbers of Jehovah's worshippers" or some such language. So sure, there was a Mongolian world power, but how many "Jehovah's Witnesses" were affected by it?
Of course, how well does this teaching line up with the idea that "Jehovah has always had an organization on the earth, there have always been Jehovah's Witnesses"? I've never seen an attempt to reconcile that.

Short answer: They can do pretty much as they please.
Longer answer: According to the elders manual, they should not do this. Here is one idea that might be worth a try. Quickly write up a letter saying you appeal their decision, explaining that they should have met with you first, and send it to whoever the elders were on the committee. Get their names from your dad if you don't know who they are. Make copies of the letter, and send it to all 3 brothers on the committee.
Technically, they shouldn't announce the D-F until your appeal has been heard. That can give you time to figure what exactly happened. Heck, maybe if the appeals committee finds out they D-F'ed you without your knowledge, they may even reverse the decision.
But I wouldn't get my hopes up. One, if the elders ignored the rules for your original meeting, they are certainly capable of ignoring them for the appeal process. And two, appeals committees reverse disfellowshipping decisions less than 1% of the time.

Yes, a current JW who is attending the current class of Gilead. He sends updates on the things he learns in class to a variety of people, & one of those people forwards it to me.

This was in violation of the law and unscriptural. The instructor said
that years ago the Watchtower could say that there was no unscriptural
divorce or hardly any divorce at all in the organization. But the same
can't be said today. It is really ruining the reputation of some
congregations today. It is sad to see that many are not learning from
the same bad mistakes of the past...
So it seems that all is not so peachy among the happiest people on earth who are living in a spiritual paradise amidst this benighted world....
See, you slackers just aren't thinking of the big picture again. Your selfishly getting divorces is "really ruining the reputation of the congregations today". If all you unclean divorcees would have just re-read the book of Malachi, all of this could have been avoided.

This comes from an e-mail from a member of the current class of Gilead, to graduate in September 2005. It come round about via e-mail (forwarded, not sent to me directly). These are his notes on one of the lectures they were given in class.
Interesting to note that many of the instructors are GB members, or high-ranking members of Teaching Committee, etc.
Of course, Bethelites & Gilead members need almost constant reinforcement that they are the true elite of the JW-world, otherwise why would anyone give up everything to work for free for a group of men who, in later years, wouldn't bat an eye to boot them out the door once no longer a "profitable employee"?
I know of a case of a couple of Bethelites, early 40's, both in full-time service since graduating high school. She got lupus. Whoosh! Out the door quicker that you can say "Mephibosheth".
