Similar to above posts but one extra point. You have to register to vote, as it's "caesar's law" Many Australians never registered, so don't get notified but jws register, so get an infringement notice. I too wrote the blah blah excuse as above and never received a fine. I was so excited at the polling booth after leaving jws, so I could have my say. So many jws complain about political parties but never do anything about it.

What do Jehovah's Witnesses do about compulsory voting in Australia?
by slimboyfat inwhat are they advised to do?
do they attend polling booths and somehow register "neutrality" or are they allowed to be absent altogether?
have politicians or the media ever addressed the issue?

Geoffrey Rush went out with my stepsister many years ago. He was impossibly shy, being from a farming background. He joined a theatre group to get some confidence. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw him collect an Oscar!! Checked his internet profile (which is incorrect on many points) OMG! What a great example of how we as humans can recreate ourselves if we are determined...

Is this a forum for JW issues or a poorly designed political and celebrity site?
by Band on the Run init appears to me that even in the few months that i have been here there is less and less emphasis on jehovah's witnesses and anything remotely related to jws and more very poor posts about politics, foreign affairs and celebrities.
i can't omit the juvenile sex ones, which i find lacking in erotic nature.
it seems the 6th grade boys are meeting in the locker room.. the posts that involve jws have a very different tone from the drivel posted on others.

Funny thing, no one noticed that this topic is not jw related, are we to ignore it BOTR?

My favourite is what I drive now, a 2002 Mercedes Benz Vito van. Independent suspension, sway bar, sweet little 2.3 litre turbo diesel and I can sleep in it! Heaps of room for a double bed and all my junk. 5 doors.
My favourite m/cycle was a mint '71 Triumph Trident bought in Hong Kong for $1000. Basically a Triumph frame with a BSA Rocket Three motor. I sold it for marriage....

Ok, I smashed a spider yesterday, but released a ladybug out the window. Hypocrisy?
by miseryloveselders inthe weather over here is nice, and i'm ready to cash my chips in and say that spring is officially here.
yesterday, i saw a spider, and i don't mind spiders, but he was a little healthier than typical, and i stepped on him, wiped the mess with a paper towel, and threw it in the rubbish.
this morning i got up and saw a ladybug on the wall.

Australia is "blessed" with a variety of deadly and aggressive spiders. I live in the bush, so have a house full of bugs. But once you get used to this environment, it is rare to even see one of these spiders. There is a kind of respect for each others space. Just a few weeks ago, I had a goanna (sand monitor((lizard)) in my place!! They are a bugger to get out and will bite if cornered. Also snakes learn to keep apart after they get used to your movements. Only feral animals and large blood sucking flies (and I mustn't forget rats who make a hell of a mess) get killed...

Important security tip for those on here that use FaceBook.
by StoneWall ina friend on fb shared this security tip with me and after realizing how crucial it could be with all the "man-in-the-middle" and data mining going on with fb i decided to share it with all of you in case you were like me and wasn't aware of it.. and after seeing what all it does i'm also curious if you're like me and wonder why facebook doesn't make it the default setting instead of the other way around.. anyhow if you go to account/account settings/account security, you should see a box that says beside it, browse facebook on a secure connection.. make sure to put a check mark in that box and then click save.. to check to make sure it is set properly, your address bar should now show https:facebook.com (notice it added the "s" for secure after http).. when you do banking online or other data sensitive issues online you are probably used to seeing the https on them and that is why.. if you are unsure of why you would want this setting on fb, i'd highly recommend to search on google for https and read the wiki article that comes up.
it list all the benefits of using this security option when/where it's available.. your friends on fb list will be much happier knowing that things they send you or that you post in pm's are more secure as well.. i was surprised at how many friends/family on my list wasn't aware of this option either.. hope that helps with any fears and/or concerns you may have with facebook security.. stonewall.

Anyone here have any experience with the "super-natural"?
by Knowsnothing inand if so, would that prove an existence of evil-spirits (demons)?.
i have heard of a couple of stories of possession, or of jw's talking to spiritists and the spiritists having seen 2 men following the jw, either dressed all in black, or all in white, and very strong looking.
yet, i have never experienced any of it.. another experience that i heard is about a brother whose mom had super-natural strength, and tossed something really heavy.

Apologies Nickolas. I just returned through intense traffic from the Doktor Gigi (dentist) so am a bit snappy...
Whay I enjoy about Balinese "religion" is that it is all illustrations of the inner fight in ourselves. People see the wild demon masks etc (and yes Balinese do believe in the unknown to an extent) but is purely symbolism. As stated previous, I do not believe in god etc but there is so much to be found by science and the Hindu beliefs here make a nice balance between practical life and a colourful play of life. I attend the temple ceremonies when I can and certainly enjoy the daily rituals of thr local people.

My life is FULL of joy and bliss Nicko. Currently lying on a beach in Bali waiting on a call from a Hindu priest who will perform a sacred ceremony on behalf of me for my deceased mother. He also laughs a lot! Are you an expert on Balinese animism ? Or just more flippant comments...
