  What is the WT's Motivation? Who Benefits?

  another thing my jw friend says to me when i question the wt is, "what would their motivation be?

  they're so humble and no-one gets paid except a basic living allowance for the workers at bethel.

  they're not like those other rotten 'ministries' whose leaders get paid a lot of money, etc.".

  so do you think money is funneled into accounts to whomever controls the WT through this nonprofit. i would assume they have independent accountants who review their books and records (IS THIS INFO AVAILABLE?) -- but maybe they're not as indendent as they should be since w/tower has free labor. i'd think the CPA's do real well like the corporate lawyers.

  do they give the rank/file any kind of an accounting (seems some expenses to operate in foreign countries --- missionaries, whatever, but no substantial info provided as it's all secret) even one w/broad categories? do nonprofits required to have their books AUDITED by outside, independent, accountants? nonprofits obviously can remain SECRET -- this doesn't seem possible.

  Birthdays not mentioned in the new elder's handbook

  i just noticed this today when i was replying to another thread.

  the new elders handbook doesn't even mention the word birthday, even though there's a big detailed chapter on offences requiring a judicial committee.. is it possible that celebrating birthdays is officially, according to the 'law', allowed?

  i can see this being the case, where technically you're allowed to, but you would just get judged like crazy..

  i recall reading a very small blurb in one of the magazines around 1997-1998 (Awake -- i think this was the mag. they'd sneak things into?) --- anyway, it was about birthdays and how they are a conscious matter for christians as to observing and weaker xtians would view them differently than mature xtians. i could not believe they were leaving it up to the individual. maybe it was in a w/tower, i can't remember which one and it's been so very long -- but seems it was slipped in toward the back of magazine. this position may have flip-flopped five times since then for all i know, but I KNOW I READ IT.

  i'm sure someone else will recall or can research. i used to know witnesses who would go to olive garden restaurant and mention it was their birthday so they could have a free cake and dessert. UNREAL!

  i heard through the grapevine that there's a hoopla going on within the local congregation and bethel.

  the local congregation decided to take contributions for the non-jw community.

  If you're a worldly and you are informed about the Watchtower

  if i, as a non-witness, tried to tell my friends and family about what i have learned on this site and elsewhere about the watchtower, some would listen for a while, but the vast majority of them, if not all, would have trouble understanding why i should become and remain interested in such a subject at all.

  many would tell me that everyone knows witnesses are crazy anyways, and that i surely could use my time on more productive endeavors.. .

  it's very sad, but many people would tell me that witnesses are witnesses because they want to.

  dgp --- I feel the same as you about feeling powerless but HACKERS went after scientology and some are of the opinion that it was a devastating blow to that cult --- I DUNNO the facts.

  there's some very intelligent ex-witnesses out there and maybe we can put our faith in them to get the truth to witnesses.

  i know nothing about hackers but overheard local radio commentator crediting hackers for information about the wikileaks saga and how he loves hackers and how they were responsible for the facts being released about scientology, also --- and many other matters.

  why are they not helping us w/facts about how the watchtower is destructive/dangerous --- media coverage (more) would be excellent.

  recall metatron posted how successful one man can be (referring to the wikileaks' incident) and it looks like hackers are the dream ticket.

  Satanus --- well, i feel better knowing police/social workers are on top of these situations. if witnesses could/would just check out the facts. you can't believe how many times inactive witnesses have told me they're AFRAID to go online. they are brainwashed forever about the bogeyman or something. i don't want to intervene w/anyone's belief system and freedom of religion is beautiful --- but can't believe how w/tower takes advantage of this. their lawyers should be held accountable (i know, impossible) taking innocent lives to avoid lawsuits and protect crooks d/b/a a religion.

  thanks for all the GREAT information.

  i hope someone stands up to the watchtower's wretched blood doctrine and protects the children (all adherents) and since we KNOW what they are doing --- are we not guilty for not trying to inform/protect the brainwashed innocent.
